That was then. This is now.

I woke up and quickly got dressed.

I ran to the dining room to find my parents waiting.

"There you are, son. You didn't sleep in as long as I thought you would.

Good morning."

"Good morning, dad. Mom."

She hugged me.

"Happy birthday, sweetie."

There was a knock at the door.

I ran to open it and saw my uncle and aunt.

"Uncle Rauf! Aunt Veera!" I shouted.

They hugged me and we walked in together.

"So, my boy. I hear that you wish to attend the Eldridge Academy of Magic and Combat."

"Yes sir."

He looked to my father.

"Jeth, are you sure?"

"Absolutely! Every time I try to teach him a new means of fighting, he perfectly counters me and I can't keep a sword in my hands for more than a few measly seconds, even when he's not using magic and doing so unarmed."

"Surely you can't be serious."

Instead of arguing, he told me to show them a torch flame.

I held up my finger and a blue-white cutting torch flame appeared.

"Rauf. That small flame cut through my armor.

Honey, go get my destroyed armor."

My mother went to my father's study.

He looked at Uncle Rauf.

"He healed me as he was destroying my armor.

He cut through with one hand and healed with the other.

Tell me.

Do you know what it feels like to lose a limb to a child, only to have another arm regrown in nearly an instant?

It is nothing short of humbling."

And that's how my 12th birthday started.

Uncle Rauf looked over my father's destroyed armor and decided to enroll me in the academy.

As such, we would be headed for the royal city the next day.

I was packing my things and getting ready for bed when I heard something tap my window.

I reinforced it and shielded the outside with an anti-magic and anti-material barrier.

Looking out, I saw someone with a rock.

They slammed the rock into the barrier and had their arm snapped by the recoil.

They screamed and I teleported the person inside where I restrained them and then healed their arm.

I removed all of their weapons and effects, including poison.

Pulling the hood off, I saw a woman.

She was unconscious and tied up, including her hands and fingers.

I opened a speech gate and said.

"Father, a woman broke into my room.

She's bound tightly and won't be going anywhere."

He ran in and saw her.

"Ilsea?"

......

"Why did you break into his room?" My father demanded.
