Siobhan sat down on one of the big leather couches in the Ravenclaw common room. Out of nowhere, a small Siamese cat jumped off the ground, onto her lap. She stroked it's short hair as the cat purred softly against her hand.

'Hi, my beautiful Juno,' she whispered as she took out the new book she had just checked out in the library. Juno nestled herself in her lap and looked up at her with big green eyes. She was a gift from Shivs older brothers when she started at Hogwarts.
Juno was smaller than other cats. She never grew bigger than a large kitten. Nevertheless, she was a smart and agile cat. One who always showed up at the right time and got messages swiftly to people when needed.

Siobhan started reading a book on long lasting protective charms. Extra-curricular books were how she got most of her knowledge these days.
She had turned 16 last week and was almost a year older than all the other people in her 5th year. It was one of the reasons she hated having a birthday earlier in the school year.

She had friends though, a few. People were generally nice to her and she wasn't the hardest person to get along with.
But Siobhan couldn't help but sense that her thirst for information and the crushing urge to better herself wasn't the same as that of her fellow fifth years. Maybe it was her family history and name, maybe the fact she was older. She didn't really know.

She had a free afternoon and she would've normally spent it in the library. However, she couldn't be in silence at the moment.
Next to her on the couch laid a small piece of parchment. Juno had brought it to her late last night.

- Invitation; Slugclub -
November 4th, 20:00. The office of Prof. H. Slughorn.

The letter didn't say anything else. It was infuriating. She wanted to know more, be able to prepare herself better.
She had heard of Slughorns exclusive group of students that impressed him most. As far as she knew there was no other fith year in the club. It made her a little uncomfortable.
She hadn't told anyone about her invitation yet. She didn't feel like receiving annoyed and sometimes even jealous looks. It was already bad enough to turn up to the school with a reputation and status to hold high. She didn't like the watchful eyes of her peers when she did something out of the ordinary.

Restless, she threw her book at her side and scratched Juno behind her small ears. The cat purred and closed her eyes.

'Ooh Shivvy..' she heard the playfull voice of her only real friend from behind her. Shiv dropped her head on the couch and looked up at Florance, who stood behind her and placed her hands on Shivs shoulders.
'There you are,' Shiv smiled up at her and grabbed one of her hands. Flo was the only person allowed to interrupt her alone time.

Florance walked around the couch and sat next to Siobhan, taking Juno out of her lap and placing it on her own. The cat didn't mind.

'Slugclub?' Florance noted curiously, and she picked up the piece of parchment. Siobhan nodded.
'Came in last night, it's for this evening.' She took the piece of paper back and looked at it. After a while she folded it up neatly and placed it in her book.

Siobhan dropped her head on Flo's shoulder while they both looked at a sleeping Juno.

"You deserve it, Shiv. You work harder than anyone else in our year, hell, this whole school if you ask me." Flo sounded genuinely happy for her.

'I know,' and Siobhan couldn't hold back the small proud smile that she felt taking over her lips.
There were a few students as passionate and hard working as she was, and she was going to meet most of them tonight.

She knew most people that were in the Slugclub. She would be lying if she said she didn't spend a big part of her previous year looking longingly at the group of students. Siobhan had a deep need for validation from superiors.

Two Ravenclaw girls a year above her were part of the club. Florance's older brother too.
She knew both Slytherin prefects were members as well. The boy was called Tom and if Shiv believed all the rumors and stories, he was going to be Minster for Magic in less than 15 years. It was a good connection to make, she supposed.

She knew there was a daughter of a high ministry member. If she remembered correctly her mother was the head of Magical Law Enforcement. Siobhan made a mental note to introduce herself to her.

Wondering about possible new connections, she watched as Juno leaped off of Flo's lap and stroll towards the fireplace. She curled up with a satisfied expression.

'What should I wear?' It felt like such a stupid but important question. Her whole wardrobe flashed before her eyes.
"You have that pretty dress and robes you wore to my sisters wedding?' Flo tried to help. Siobhan nodded and throught about it. It was an all black dress. It suited her personality but it was definitely not a casual option.

Slowly Shiv got to her feet. She gathered her books and looked down at Flo.
'I'm just going to try my best. What else can I do?' The words left her mouth a little more confident than she actually felt.

When she reached her dorm she climbed up her bunk bed and laid down. Again, she clutched her wand. It all came down to brightness. And she had enough of that. Professor Flitwick had promised her she could pass on to follow the sixth years charm lessons, that had to mean something.

She skipped dinner and took a long bath in the bathroom connected to their dorm. She liked the solitude of everyone being off to dinner.

She dressed herself in a long bodycon black dress that came up in a turtle neck. She darkened her almost colorless light blue eyes with a little bit of eyeliner and pencil before pulling on a long, thin, flowy black robe.

Siobhan looked at herself in the bathroom mirror. Her hair fell down her shoulders in long black curls.
One strand at the front of her face was almost white.

It was a small nod to her Veela heritage. Her grandmother was one. Shiv wasn't sure how much passed down to her. The white blonde strand of hair, combined with her bright blue eyes were enough of a sign.

Siobhan sighed and turned around. She tucked her wand in and iside pocket and stepped towards the door.
