My fingers tap along the steering wheel to the beat of the radio tune

My fingers tap along the steering wheel to the beat of the radio tune. An ocean of excited nerves flows through my body, occasionally accompanied by a wave of anxiety. It wasn't an overbearing feeling, just a tad of jitters thinking of introducing my parents to Matilda.

I knew they'd adore her just as much as everyone around her did. She is pure sunshine, and how could someone not like a person who radiates so much joy and light? I had no doubt in my mind that especially my mother would fall in love with her.

Matilda is the best thing that has ever been mine. Sometimes it feels surreal to say she's mine. I had never met someone who felt so natural to be with, it reminded me of breathing. I needed her in order to survive. And now that she's in my life, I can't imagine one without her.

I'm getting too attached and she leaves next month.

The thought of her leaving brings pain to my chest. One I've never felt before. It's sharp as if a knife is in my chest and slowly edging around my heart to cut it out.

I don't want her to leave but I don't know if I can make her stay.

Before getting too wrapped up in my thoughts, I turn the wheel to drive my car up the small driveway where the sweetest girl I knew lived. I gently apply pressure on the break and put the gear in park, but keep the car running. Unbuckling my seatbelt, I almost jump out of the car. Flutters take over my body as I stand.

I shut the car door behind me, walking around the back of it. Before I make it up Matilda's front steps, I hear the sound of a door shutting. My eyes peer up to see an angel standing in front of me.

A low gasp leaves my lips, becoming stunned by her beauty. She wore the most gorgeous blue silk dress. The colour matched perfectly with my top. She had half of her hair pinned back but kept a few strands of hair to frame her face. Her lips were juicy and soft pink, matching the lightly applied blush on her cheeks.

My mouth runs dry and there's a flutter feeling in my stomach at the sight of her. Taking my right hand, I stretch out my fingers and softly hit my chest. My hand pressed up against my heart, feeling it madly thump.

She's an angel.

"Hi," She softly speaks, taking a couple of steps.

"Hi," I managed to say, my hand falling to my side.

"You look really nice," She smiles, sliding her hand into mine.

The way it perfectly fits sends a shiver down the back of my neck. The chills she sends through my body is such a rush.

Matilda now stands in front of me, my mind completely fogged with all the desire I had. I was at a loss for words, only being able to embarrass myself and stare.

"My god, Matilda..." I trailed off, not remembering what she said, "You look beautiful," A smile crossed my lips.

"Thank you," She can't help herself from blushing.
