Seriously girls, your mothers have been through this (if you do not have a mother, consult a female who you trust that has already started their period), they know how it goes. Do not be afraid to ask them questions. Yes it will be embarrassing at first, but she's the one who will shop for your supplies for you (unless your dad is an OBGYN like mine, because he was the one who gave me 'the talk') and she will also be there to get you foods. So please, don't take your mothers for granted, they used to be your age too. (An OBGYN is a woman doctor, just so you know.)
Also, cousins are good. I have a cousin in college who was watching me and my brothers while my parents were on vacation and I got my period. Well, I get very emotional on my period so I started sobbing in my room for no reason at all and my brother walked in and then quickly shut the door and ran for my cousin. She kinda just sat there awkwardly until I stopped crying and then we just talked for a bit and it really helped.
