John sighed as he wiped down the bar again. A noisy group of young adults finally left, leaving a huge mess behind.
Just 2 more hours 'til closing time.
There were a decent number of customers still enjoying their drinks and the music. Enough to keep him contently busy, but not too many where John would worry about getting them all out after closing.
John turned to put a few more shot glasses in the washer and heard the bell above the entrance tinkle, signaling someone's arrival or departure. After shutting the dishwasher and starting it, John turned back to face the bar, pushing his quiff out of his face. He froze with his fingers in his hair.
Someone new had entered. A gorgeous someone. John bit his lip as he drew his eyes across the new customer.
Damn.
A tall, lean man with chocolate brown curls stepped through the door and narrowed his eyes, scanning the building. It was a modestly sized bar, with a relatively comfy feeling. Some couples were dancing to pop music playing through speakers, but otherwise, the most activity was a few older gentlemen playing pool. The gorgeous man's eyes settled on the bar, and he strode over, pulling his long black coat off in a smooth, seductive action. The man settled on a barstool and steepled his hands under his nose.
John took a moment to shut his jaw, which had begun to gape and straighten his shirt. He approached the chocolate haired man with a smirk.
"What can I get for you?" John asked in a smooth voice.
The other man had had his eyes closed, and they opened a few seconds after the question. John was in awe of the man's beautiful, multicolored eyes.
"I'll have an old-fashioned," the man droned in a distracted voice. John pursed his lips, wanting the full attention of his handsome customer.
"Want it made a particular way?"
"Just make it strong," the man replied hurriedly, his blue eyes taking on a cutting harshness. John took a step back, shocked by the abrupt harshness of the command. The man finally looked into John's eyes. They softened. "Please?"
While John's breath was caught upon eye contact with the stranger, his mind also caught on the desperate tone in the man's voice.
John gave the man a soft look. "Of course," he said softly before walking away from the counter to make the drink.
John mixed the drink together, feeling the stranger's eyes boring into his back the entire time. John tried to ignore it and listen to the music playing instead. It was a favorite of the regular customers, and John found himself swaying to its slow beat.
The man at the bar couldn't help but cement his gaze on the bartender's hips as they swayed side to side. He bit his lip and forced his eyes shut as he continued thinking.
John finished the drink, completely unaware of the way his customer had been admiring him. "Alright, one strong old fashioned."
The customer took the drink from John's outstretched hand, their fingers brushing momentarily.
"Thank you," the man forced his lips into a smile, realizing that maybe he could get this attractive bartender into his bed, serving as a great distraction from his swirling mind.
John's heart skipped a beat at the beautiful smile the man flashed at him, but he knew it wasn't a real one. He could see the darkness seeping through his eyes.
"Do you work here regularly?" The man asked with a smirk. He knew it was a stupid question, but he was desperate for something to distract him.
"Mainly Friday nights and weekends since that's when we're busiest," John answered. He leaned on the counter, bringing his face closer to the man's. "What brings you out tonight?" John kept the question flirtatious. He really wanted to flirt with this man and maybe snog in the loo after his shift, but John was also worried for him. Something seemed wrong.
The man paused bringing his drink up to his lips, and for a moment a look of panic flashed in his eyes. "Uh, just looking for someone to entertain me." He looked at the bartender's neck and then rested his gaze on the blond man's delectable looking lips.
John smirked. "Oh really? Have your eyes on anyone yet?"
The man took a long sip of his drink, keeping eye contact with John. He set his drink down and purposefully licked his lips. He tried not to chuckle when John's eyes glanced at the action. "Yes, I do have someone in mind." With that, the customer tipped his head back and drowned his drink. "I'll have another drink."
John paused. I don't know how sensitive he is to alcohol. I don't want him to hurt himself. He looks like I did 3 months ago. I can't enable that.
"Alright, I'll get you one more strong old fashioned." John snatched the empty glass and went to make another.
"I'll want more than one." The man tried keeping his voice light and flirtatious, but John could hear the steal under it.
Before John could reply, a regular customer interrupted.
"Hey, Johnny! How's it going?" The regular, Tim, leaned against the counter and gave John a friendly pat on the shoulder.
"Hi, Tim, it's going well," John smiled and chuckled.
"You look better, mate. I remember the first time I came in here, you looked like shit. I'm glad whatever was going on was resolved. These past months you've looked like yourself," Tim said with a friendly smile. As much as John appreciated the concern, he couldn't help but glance at the man he was trying to get with. His face was unreadable, although he was definitely listening.
"Thanks, Tim. I'm glad to be better too."
As soon as John finished talking, one of Tim's friends called him back to their table. Tim gave a wave and dashed back to his table.
"You seem popular, Johnny," the gorgeous man spoke. John still couldn't read his expression.
John tried to chuckle. "Not really, I just chat with some of the regulars. And it's John. The boys like to annoy me by calling me Johnny. I'll get your drink made."
The man remained silent as John made the drink. When he finished, John wordlessly set it in front of the man. The man tipped his head back and downed the drink. John watched the man's long, pale neck curve back. His Adam's apple bobbed with each gulp. With the drink finished, the man brought it down to the bar with some force.
"I'll have another... John," the man said, trying to sound seductive, but the steal cut through his voice.
"Sorry, can't help you." John said and pressed his lips together.
"Another."
John shook his head. The man's eyes bore into him.
"For my sister, it was alcohol," John said in a quick breath.
"I know."
"What? How?"
He lifted his eyes to meet John before a flurry of words left his full lips. "When you saw the state I was in, you hesitated to make me my drink. Your response showed pity, concern, but also understanding. Clearly, someone close to you has or is abusing alcohol. I knew it was a sibling because of the way you went about it. You don't want me to hurt myself... I also know you struggled with alcohol, too. Just 3 months ago." The man waited.
John's jaw dropped. When he took a breath to speak, he noticed the man flinch.
"That was incredible."
The man whipped his head up to look John in the eyes. His eyes were huge. "Really?" The man asked hesitantly.
"Bloody amazing!" John exclaimed with a smile.
John's customer bit his lip, looking like he was holding back a true smile. John thought it was utterly adorable and wanted to make the man so happy he wouldn't be able to contain his smile.
"What's your name?" John asked, once again leaning closer. He could smell the man's delicious scent, and he wanted nothing more than to claim those pouty lips with his own.
"Sherlock," the man drawled with a smirk. He also leaned across the bar.
"Now, I won't give you another drink, but I think I may have an idea for something that could distract you better," John whispered seductively, drawing his tongue across his lips the way it often drove his dates crazy. Success. Sherlock's stunning eyes dropped to John's lips as a smirk remained plastered on his face.
"And what might that entail?" Sherlock asked with a raised eyebrow. When Sherlock looked at him like that, John could barely breathe.
"Once this place closes, we could go somewhere private."
John's words went straight to Sherlock's abdomen. A warm tumbly feeling was already starting to build up.
"Well, John, the bar closes in 10 minutes. How about you make me one last drink, and you can start closing up," Sherlock had a slightly challenging look in his eyes.
"No more drinks. I want you fully sober for what I have planned," John winked, pushed himself from the bar, and left to start shutting down.
Sherlock was startled. He almost always got what he wanted. But this was more interesting. The dark thoughts tried pushing into Sherlock's mind, but it was already filled with thoughts of John. He watched as John kindly asked the last few customers to begin heading out before he went back into the store room. The customers trickled out within 2 minutes.
Sherlock stood and straightened out his clothing. He left his coat draped over a bar stool and leaned against the doorframe John had entered a few minutes ago. He heard some shuffling, and a second later, John popped into the doorway. John looked shocked to see Sherlock standing there. The taller man smirked and brought one of his hands up to rest on the top of the doorframe. He leaned closer to John.
"Almost done?" Sherlock asked in a husky tone.
John gulped, finding the way Sherlock towered over him immensely hot. "Y-yeah, just about."
Sherlock pushed himself off the doorframe and returned to stand by the bar. John turned off a couple lights, the music, and shut the blinds.
"OK, I'll just have to lock up now when we head out." John walked over to where Sherlock stood. He put his hands on Sherlocks hips and pulled him closer.
"We could just stay here. It's private enough," Sherlock smiled while draping his arms over John's shoulders.
"Nope. There's cameras," John chuckled. "Plus, I want to take my time with you; take you apart slowly."
Sherlocks breath caught as John brought his nose to glide across Sherlock's sharp jawline. The feeling left Sherlock with goosebumps. John took one hand off Sherlock's waist to cup his jaw. Sherlocks eyes fluttered shut as John brought his face down and connected their lips. It was a lot softer than Sherlock expected. He liked it. His previous lovers didn't waste time with gentle kisses. He'd have to keep John around. John pulled back after some time and smiled at Sherlock.
"Come back to my place?" Sherlock asked in his deep, seductive voice.
"As long as there aren't any dead bodies hidden away," John joked with a chuckle.
"I have a few body parts in the fridge," Sherlock shrugged nonchalantly.
John made a face and was about to panic but wasn't able to because Sherlock had slipped his tongue into John's mouth, and his brain shut down.
This was going to be fun.
