It had been around an hour since Steve started driving around Hawkins looking for Billy

He finally put his foot on the brake pedal when finding Billy's car. Sure, it was hard to see, but he only knew one person with a California license plate.

His camaro was sitting outside of a familiar forest. If you walked far enough, you'd see skull rock. A makeout spot.

Steve kicks open his car door standing, slamming it close and walking to skull rock. Unsurprisingly, he sees Billy but with no girl.

It was only him and a pack of Marlboros

"How's it going, Harrington?" Billy says, pulling the cigarette out of his mouth, releasing the smoke.

"A date ditch you Hargrove?" Billy looks back at Steve, seeing how he put his hands on his hips

"Y'know you always do that when you're mad,"

Steve notices what he's talking about and quickly drops his hands, walking over to the other boy standing beside him

Billy hands the cigarette pack to Steve, unlike the last time they shared. Steve kinda wished he did it again.

Steve looks at Billy, not wanting to say he forgot a lighter, "Damn Harrington, how do you take care of yourself?" Billy laughs, taking out his own

Instead of waiting for Steve to take out the cigarette, Billy covers the tip with his hand and lights it

They look at each other, Billy smirks then closes his lighter with a click, Steve breathes in then releases.

"Y'know Hargrove as much as you were a shitty person -" Billy interrupts him laughing at the truth, "-I still regret not doing anything that day in the mall."

Billy turns towards Steve, letting his cig hang out his mouth, "Harrington -"

"I know we've already talked about this, but even if I did hate your guts back then, that doesn't mean I wanted you to die."

"C'mon, it's a good thing I died. If I didn't, my dad would still be here, and I'd still be bound to him."

Maybe he's right, but still, I just wish I had made some attempt to help him.

Steve didn't think before asking the next question, "Max mentioned your dad. Was he abusive?"

Billy breathes out his final puff, dropping the end to the ground and stepping on it.

"Yeah.. I guess you could say that, and now that I think about it, I wouldn't even fight back. Instead, I would pretend that.."

"You'd pretend what?" Steve asks, trying to get him to continue. "I would just think of the stupidest shit. It doesn't matter."

Steve got closer to Billy, but it was dark enough. Steve couldn't see Billy's cheeks turn a light red

"Come on, tell me, or are you trying to tell me you ruined my face for a stupid reason."

"It's just -"

"-Everytime I saw you, I saw me..or who I wanted to be." Steve's eyebrows raise as he finds out what made Billy hate him so much. "And I hated myself for it."

".. I think he's the reason I didn't want to be around you all." Billy continues

"Your dad?" Billy nods, "What was so bad about us that made him hate who we are?" Steve asks

"Well, he didn't like it if you weren't white -" Steve interrupts Billy "Well that obvious - what else was it?"

"My dad hated uh- people who were.."

"People like who were like Robin?" Billy sighs down at the ground, "Yeah."

Steve becomes defensive and asks, "So that's it? That's why you hated us and didn't wanna be near us?"

"What, no! There were other reasons."

"What were they? What made you not want to be around us?" Steve came here to figure things out but only got more lost

"I couldn't be around you! You were the reason I was distant, Steve!"

"Me? But I'm not g-" 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵, 𝘪𝘧 𝘉𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸.

"You're gay?" Billy is now turned away from Steve, "I'm not gay- gay I'm- ugh"

Billy puts his hands on his face, trying to think about how to explain his feelings

"I like girls, but I also like guys, okay?" He says sighing, 𝘏𝘦'𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘨𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘮𝘦, 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘶𝘭𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘦

"But why couldn't you be around me?" Billy turns to Steve with a look that would make anyone feel stupid.

"Are you serious, Harrington? 'Cause if you're kidding-" Billy tights his fist, stepping closer to Steve

"I'm not! I'm not! I promise." Steve says, Billy groans and throws his head back.

"Dammit, Harrington, I like you!"

"Billy -" Steve was stopped by seeing Billy looking down, trying to clear away tears

Steve feels an urge he couldn't ignore, so he didn't. He reached for Billy

"Don't." Billy says, lifting his hand up and pinching the bridge of his nose with the other hand

Steve refused Billy's wish, grabbing his hand, putting it down, and wrapping his hand around Billy's waist, pulling him into a kiss.

Billy pushes Steve off and waiting before pulling him back in by his opened jacket

Billy slides his hands around Steve's neck, pulling him closer into the kiss, causing Steve to stumbling forward

Steve never figured out what made Billy come here, but he does know they stayed there and used it for what Steve made it for.
