Dear, Don't You Know?

Dear, don't you know?
I killed you last summer
When you were prancing across the field,
And through the woods
On top of the slippery, jagged rocks
Covered with moss and the occasional dragonfly.

Sweetheart, didn't I tell you?
That I bashed your brain in,
Scooped out your pretty blue eyes with a spoon,
Took a knife and carved out your heart
To nail it onto a lonely tree.
I did it all last summer,
For last summer you trampled on mine.

Darling, if you must ask,
I buried your body by the creek
Where everything is nice and quiet
Apart from the trickling water and the songbirds sing.
Once in a while I would visit you,
Sit by you next to that pretty ol' creek
And tell you tales of this world and the next.
You are safe, I swear,
Under my watch and that of the sweet summer breeze.

Dearie, you must believe me
That what I say is nothing but honest and true.
And now that I've told you this
Will you please leave me alone?
