A FEW YEARS LATER

Sol and Kingo were sent to Vengi, which was a smaller city of Gupta, after a deviant being spotted via one of Phastos's devices.

It wasn't too big nor too dangerous so the two had finished the battle quite easily.

Sol and Kingo checked up on the townsfolk, thankfully none of them were badly wounded.

"So, rumour has got out about you Druig and Makkari" Kingo smirked and wiggled his thick eyebrows at his friend.

Sol had paused and turned to Kingo "Who told you that?" She panicked since the three had tried to keep their relationship as quiet as possible, aside from Ajak whom already knew.

"No one special" Kingo laughed obnoxiously. But Sol kinda knew it was Makkari, seeing as she couldn't be happier to share the great news to her friends.

"Who else knows?" Sol asked timidly

"Just Thena and Gilgamesh... and Sprite... Oh! And Sersi... also Ikaris..." Kingo spat out.

"So... everyone knows?!" Sol breathily scoffed.

"Yeah..." Kingo trailed off, letting Sol internally panic.

Druig sat in the kitchen of the domo, scoffing down whatever food he had grabbed and considering it was the middle of the night, he wasn't very aware of his surroundings or others.

The noise had woken Sol up. Quietly dragging herself to inspect the noise.

Squinting into the light she saw a hunched, half-asleep Druig sitting on a barstool with the fridge wide open.

Sol laughed loudly and Druig jumped, startled. Once he saw it was Sol he slouched and scoffed to himself.

"What are you doing?" Sol tried to hide the perplexed look on her face as she strolled closer.

"Ummm" Druig looked to the food he held on his hands "midnight snack?" He shrugged.

Sol smiled, wrapping her hands around Druig's shoulders. "Bed?" She simply asked.

Druig nodded tiredly and placed the bowel back into the fridge. Once he got up Sol put the barstool back where it came from and led her partner to his room.

Druig room was dark and the bedsheets were disheveled. Druig plopped down and pulled the blankets around himself.

Sol sat on the edge of his bed and lent down to kiss him on the cheek. The dimples on his cheeks appearing when he smiled.

When Sol went to get up, thinking he was asleep, he piped up "what would yo do if something happened to us?"

Sol's face scrunched "what?"

"What would you do?" He asked, almost as if he was scared for her answer.

"Like... to us three or?... to everyone?" Sol pushed on.

"To everyone. Like if we split apart or.. died" his voice lowered, not making eye contact with Sol.

"Well... I don't think I'd know until the moment. Why love? Did something happen?" When he didn't answer Sol peeked over his tense shoulder, he was asleep. But Sol knew he just didn't want to answer her.

That night when Sol was lying in her bed, the words of Druig replayed in her mind. Why would he even ask such a thing? Sol was trying to be optimistic, like she always was, and think that Druig was just tired and upset.

Sol had tried her best to force herself back to sleep but she couldn't. Her eyes fell to the painting that had still been wrapped in silk, scolding herself for forgetting about the gift. Grumbling when she kicked the sheets away from her in frustration, she pushed herself from her warm bed and made her way down the hall.

Pushing open the door a crack she saw Makkari laying in her bed peacefully. Gliding inside, Sol snuck into the opposite side of Makkari's bed, the presents of her partner warmed her chest. Sol placed her arms around Makkari's waist, feeing her snuggle back into her. And that's how they lay for the night, drifting into a dream.
