[Chaudhaveen ka chaand ho,
yaa aaftaab ho,]

—  Z A I R A  —

I woke up and took a shower, my head still ached from all the drama.

Itna bura mood mera itne arse se nahin hua main samajhne lagi thi ke bure mood ka trend chalaa gayaa hai.

I wore a dark green simple and long anarkali dress with traces of golden on the edges, including on one corner of the dupatta to convey my afsurdagi like a classy lady, and watched my puffed up eyes in the mirror.

I wore the only pair of khusse that I have and they candidly went well along with the golden edges work.

I climbed down the stairs elegantly, trying to seem as afsurda as possible, hoping someone would notice my udaasi and ask me something so I could reply with a ghamgeen urdu poetry but the second I saw them all looking up at me from the dining table as if I were the main character of —not just mine— but EVERYONE's life, my face lighted up despite all my failed attempts of pushing the corners of my lips down.

"Ring ceremony ajj rakhwaa ke—"

Nahin.

Elegance, Zaira. Elegance.

I put the hands I had raised for bhangra down and plucked the smile off my lips.

"Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha hai,"

I slipped my hand along the railing,

"Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha hai,
Sang har shakhs ne,
Sang har shakhs ne haathon mein uttha rakha hai
Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha hai,
Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha hai,
Uss ke dil par bhi karr'i ishq mein guzri ho gi,
Naam jis ne bhi, muhabbat ka sazaa rakhaa hai,"

Allah, everyone must be like haaye Allah bechaari ka pataa nahin kitni zor se dil ttootta hai, haw, Zaira meri jaan udaas naa ho, tumhain tou koyi bhi mil jaae ga.

"Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha hai,
Sang har shakhs ne,
Sang har shakhs ne haathon mein uttha rakha hai,
Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha,
Jab se tune mujhe deewaana banaa rakha hai,"

And a smile escaped my lips when I thought of the next verses. It's Atif Aslam's part and I remember how hot he looks in the video and I swear, if it weren't for him I could be a great actress but he comes in my mind every once in a while and leaves a smile.

Huh, I rolled my eyes, extremely unfair that it's not a mutual thing and I don't have the same effect on him.

I pulled the seat out and silently sat on it after wearing the typical frown those gharelu auratein have in rasaale.

That reminds me, I need to go to Urdu Bazaar to buy digests and books.

I was lost in remembering the titles of the books I wanted to buy while phuppo gossiped about someone called Shumaila.

"Aankhon ko kyaa hua hai?" Taaya abbu asked after a very long while and broke my trail of thoughts.

I closed my eyes before they made their way to gesture to the one who made them so puffy.

"Saaf saaf royi hoon iss mein poochhna kyaa? Haan, agar iss liye poochh rahe hain ke rulaane waale ka qatl karna hai toh naam bataa sakti hoon."

At this point, I know even taaya abbu is sick of me.

"Naagan waangun, dang diyaan raatan
Patjharr lag diyaan ne barsaatan

Hanjuan haar parowan rakhiyan
Loki hasde rowan akhiyaan
