Epilogue

Brendon's hand was shaking slightly in his. The office building in front of them loomed like a threatening giant. The engine of the cab was like a low, soothing hum and Brendon didn't want to leave the false safety that the cab brought. He stared at the stark white building like a deer in headlights.

Spencer turned to look at him, a soft encouraging smile on his face while the grip of his hand tightened around his mate's. "I'm so proud of you, of us. You can do this, we can do this."

Brendon inhaled shakily and then smiled up at him, "Yeah, yeah, okay. Yeah."

They both got out of the cab after paying the driver and Spencer immediately resumed holding Brendon's hand as they made their way up to the office.

When they got to the reception, Brendon's shaking got worse and Spencer's grip got even tighter.

They were just about to speak to the receptionist when a middle-aged woman with wild curly sandy blonde hair that contrasted sharply with her dark brown skin, several wrinkles around her eyes and lips that spoke of a lifetime of happiness, was flying out of a room by the side, her arms filled with files.

"Tina, I'm gonna need you to –"

She froze when she spotted who was standing in her reception and to be honest, the omega never thought she'd ever see Brendon step foot in her office again.

"Brendon," she said in surprise. She glanced at the tall dark skinned man at his side, at them holding hands and when she inhaled, her eyes widened imperceptibly at the scent of alpha and mate. Holy wow, Brendon was mating with an alpha? "Damn, what the hell have I missed son?"

Despite himself, Brendon laughed. Cat could be mean when she wanted to but she felt like a mother to him. He felt a little guilty all those times he'd come to her office and he'd blame her, pour his anger and frustration out on her when she was only trying to help him heal.

But now, he knew why it never worked, why he was never able to truly let go.

His hands stopped shaking and he gripped Spencer's hand tightly in his, "this is Spencer, my mate. Spencer, this is Mrs Therize, my therapist."

"I haven't been your therapist for eons, child, don't you dare think you can waltz in here and things can go back to the way it was," Cat replied sternly.

Brendon's lips parted in shock and the woman had the gall to laugh.

"I'm kidding, jeez, look at your face."

Brendon rolled his eyes and looked at Spencer a little nervously. The alpha gave him that sweet encouraging smile that made Brendon feel like he could do anything. He swallowed hard and turned back to face his therapist. "A lot has happened since, well, since – I – Spencer has helped me," he stopped, his voice shaking nervously before trying again, "Spencer's been good for me. He's really helped me overcome a lot of things. But we've been through so much –" Spencer still looks at him in fear sometimes when he raises a hand, the alpha had started getting nightmares and flinching when Brendon had tried to casually reach for him every so often. It hurt – goddess, it hurt so much – but Brendon accepted that it was his fault and that was why they were here, "– we need help, C-Cat." Spencer's hand tightened in his and it spurred his courage on. "So much has happened and we need you to help us heal."

He'd never really called her by her first name, not wanting to bridge the gap between them, not wanting her to get close or for anyone to really see and by the surprise on her face, Cat knew that this was serious. Brendon had really changed since the last time she'd seen him. It looked like he'd healed a lot since then.
