"...And this is where we found Pearls!"
Y/N told me.
"That was a relief."
She sighed.

"Good news indeed.
Sister Iris didn't manage to open these locks, apparently. We suspect that Maya Fey is trapped in there. In fact, Von Karma is there, trying to break the locks herself."
I told her.
I didn't tell her that I just spoke with Iris about the case...

"I hope she is alright... all those days... alone..."
Y/N put her head against my chest.

"Don't worry, kitten. We'll get her out of there safe and sound. This is what Mia would have wanted."
I put my hand through her soft hair.

The bailiff gestured us to enter the courtroom. It's time.

"Wait a sec...
Alright, perfect! Go get 'em, tiger!"
Y/N kissed my cheek after adjusting
my tie.

"Thanks, kitten."
I smiled at her.

"You young-ings there are so cute.
I remember my first love..."
The judge sighed and Y/N giggled.
She took the stand next to me.

Frankly... I kinda hoped she won't be here...
Today, the truth will be revealed...
I don't know how much I can keep it from her...

But I know one thing.
I can't escape my consequences.

While Diego was deep in thoughts, I looked at Phoenix and Pearl that arrived in front of us.

"Court is now in session for the trial of Sister Iris of Hazakura temple."

Phoenix looked quite confused.
Oh, that's right! I remember Edgeworth explaining to me... the judge's brother was here last time...

I zoned out for a while, unconsciously giving Diego his coffee.
"Humans are fragile, fickle beings. Our hearts change with the shifting of the tides. There is only one thing that remains constant in this crazy world...
The bitter darkness that lies at the bottom of this mug."

Godot sounded calm, smug and chill as always, although...
there's that slight change in his tone...
This feeling that... it's all going to be over. That we are close to the end.
That bit of sadness... sorrow... guilt...

"Diego... you are doing great."
I tried to cheer him up.
Pearl channeling Mia...
Maya channeling Daliah Hawthorn...
Diego was having a hard time staying calm.

"Your visor was steaming... would you give it to me for a sec? Let me have a look, maybe I can fix it---"

"N-NO!
Uh, sorry.
I meant, no, thank you.
Let's finish this trial already and we'll fix it when we get home."
Godot apologised from his outburst.

But... his last sentence wasn't convincing. He doesn't even look convinced himself...
There's something he knows that I don't.

"Something's bothering you, I can see that... you know you can tell me everything, right?"
I put my hand on his cheek.

"Y-Y/N... Today I'm going to tell you the truth, I promise.
Even if it's bitter... I promise I won't try to soften it with milk."
He said, serious.

"Thank you.
We'll talk about this later."
I said as we took the stand for the third time today.
Maya recovered from Deliah's spirit and stood next to the jury, although she still looked weak.
I looked at Pearl... or... Mia, in that case. She looked back at me.
She had a sad smile.
She knows something, too...
