Mum (s)

"Ring... Ring..." The deafening sound of the phone filled the warehouse. Sharon was correct. They had rerouted the signal. I saw in silence 2 people making their way to the center. It was at sunset, so it was impossible to see who they were.

Only a soft clattering of chains and the slow but rhythmic footsteps were to be heard. As they made their way to the table, i glanced behind to look at Sharon, who, unable to see the 2 people, was pretty confused.

I looked back into the crack in the wall. As they approached the table, i grabbed a rock beside me.

"Remember, 5 minutes, you are working, and speakerphone."

The phone stopped ringing.

"Hello?"

I instantly recognized her voice. She was my mum.

"Mr. Connor?"

"Sorry. You've got the wrong number"

I threw a rock against the wall as hard as possible, and looking through the hole, both my mum and the man was looking towards me. The sun was setting behind the warehouse, so it would be nearly impossible for them to spot me.

Sharon, unaware of everything going on, had hung up and made her way back to me.

"Now what." She whispered. I pointed to the back corner of the warehouse and there laid a pile of PVC pipes. Wonderful. I drew a simple diagram of our "organized plan", and we were off. I went to the back of the warehouse and Sharon went to the front, both clutching a pipe.

At the back, i saw a bed and a mattress, a pot, and a portable stove. Oh my gosh. Why didn't we just come here... Argh. It was too late. The back door had a gaping hole through the middle and looking through it, I saw the 2, very confused individuals.

"Pang!..." A loud noise echoed around the hall. Sharon had just smashed the PVC pipe against the only metal part of the the warehouse. The door.

"Who's there?" The man yelled. Sharon hit it again. To her dismay, the entire wall fell forward, into the warehouse.

"Well hello, there." The man bellowed. He started approaching Sharon. From the back of the warehouse, i saw the fear in Sharon's eyes, and stepped through the hole in the door, into the warehouse. I quietly tapped the pipe on the ground so mum could hear me, but not him.

Sure enough, my mum turned her head, and gave a sad smile. I signaled to her to keep quiet, and i slowly made my way past her.

Meanwhile, Sharon, scared, was backing away, from the man, and was clutching her PVC pipe extremely tightly. I decided to pick up my pace, and was a few meters away from him. I glanced at Sharon, who looked back at me.

Wait, wha-

I felt a foot swing around and strike me at the waist, flinging me to the right. A wave of pain pulsated through my body, making me feel like my nerves had been ripped and torn. I clutched my waist in pain and tried to scramble back, but to no avail. I had dropped the PVC pipe. The man approached and clenched his fist. I had little to no idea of what to do.

Suddenly, a white pole appeared next to the man's head struck him at the left.

"HOW DID YOU LIKE THAT, HUH?" Sharon screamed.
