I quickly exit the room turning into the hallway. I didn't want to be anywhere near them right now, even if that meant leaving Clary alone whilst unconscious. Making my way down the hall, I come to two hallways but I don't remember which way led to the exit. I decide to take the left hall, walking down before coming to a dead end.

"Where am I?" I question, releasing a frustrated cry before finally giving up. I lean against a wall, sliding down to the floor. Wrapping my arms around my knees, I let my tears freely flow from my eyes. So much was happening. My mom was missing. My dad, Luke, might have been lying to us our whole lives. I was seeing things that should not be real. Our house was destroyed, so Clary and I now had nowhere to go. And now, we were stuck at the mercy of these people. These 'Shadow hunters', as they called themselves.

It was all just too much to handle. I wipe my eyes on my hand, looking down at the symbol that was now burned into my skin. More tears fell from my eyes now. I was supposed to be living a normal life, having a normal 18th birthday. I should be preparing for the writing program that I had worked so hard to get into. Now, I was fighting for my life.

I hear multiple footsteps coming down the hall but I ignore them, only focusing on trying to calm myself down. I needed to be strong if I wanted to get my life back. Only, I didn't know how to do that. Our whole lives, despite our differences, and us not always getting along, Clary was always by my side. We were twins after all.

I was unaware when two people stopped in front of me, one of them squatting down to my level. When a hand is placed on my shoulder, I flinch, pulling away from whoever it was. I looked up, seeing that it was Isabelle and the dark-haired boy. I lock eyes with the boy, a strange feeling running through me.

"I'm sorry for my sister. She can be a bit dramatic sometimes." The boy says, giving a playful glare at Isabelle. Sister? That did make sense, as they had the same color hair and pretty brown eyes.

"That's because you're no fun, big brother," Isabelle responds to him. She then backed away, leaning against the wall that was across from me.

I watch as the boy rolls his eyes before looking back at me. He sighs, before speaking. "I'm Alec." He tells me, sticking his hand out for me to shake. I just stare at him, unsure if I should shake his hand or not. He just stood there as his apparent sister forcibly burned a symbol into my skin. Sure he was cute, but could I trust him?

When I still didn't shake his hand, he stood up, sighing once again, but this time in annoyance. "Why am I even wasting my time, Izzy? We should be focusing on the fact that they ruined our mission. Now we still don't know who was behind all those demon attacks." He says to Isabelle, standing to his feet now.

"I didn't..." I start before clearing my throat.  "We didn't purposely try to ruin your mission. It was just that-." I say, not finishing my sentence. How could I explain that the only reason that we were in the club, to begin with, was that somehow, only she and I could see them? And then that  Clary, being the stubborn and careless person she was, wanted to prove a point, and dragged me along as we entered into the club. I hadn't intended to be there when the fight broke out or to be there at all.

"We know that, and I'm sorry about what I did. But the fact is since you and your sister both survived getting runed, that means you both have Shadowhunter blood. It's not every day that new Shadowhunters show up." Isabelle says with a soft smile. The way she spoke, I could tell that she meant her apology. But I knew that I should still be cautious. After all, I've only known them for less than a day now.

"That's because it doesn't happen. New Shadowhunters don't just show up." The boy, Alec, says annoyed. I couldn't tell if he was annoyed with me, or the fact of the ruined mission. But something inside of me wanted to make it up to him.

Isabelle sighs before smacking his shoulder. "Be nice." She says before looking back at me.

"Your sister is awake now. She's getting changed, said there's a 'Simon' waiting outside?" She said, almost as if questioning the name.
