«Last day on Mars» (July 7, 3325)

The polychromatic light
From distant dying stars
Slicing through the mile-thick clouds
Engulfing us here on Mars

The swarming hords of dragonflies
Have become a familiar sight
Constantly zigzagging overhead
Hunting prey in futile flight

The unmistakable scent of sulfur
And downpour of acidic rains
Are becoming increasingly normal
On these once barren, reddish plains

Despite of its harshness
And unwelcoming state
Returning to home
Seems a great leap of faith

I take a last glance
At our place of refuge
Since when earth
Couldn't take more abuse

As our spaceship
Ignites for its final ascent
I solemnly swear
Our intent

That this time around
Humanity's changed
We will not be
A failure again
