Loving the book stalked and rejected, but not loving all your extra posts before each chapter starts, and mid chapter. Takes away from the book. I literally scrolled thru each and everyone of them without reading because I wanted to read the chapter.

I think we are missing a genre within the werewolf themes books: Mis-Matched Mates.

In the stories there are humans discovered to be true mates, and they don't always feel the bond like the were do. What about weres who are mentally unstable or faking it to draw in a victim to use and abuse?

If they don't have a mate yet (or lost theirs) the fantasy of having a soulmate could be attractive.

A human could be swept off of her feet and believe it is true. She could feel attraction, love, loyalty... But since she isn't his true mate she would never be what he really wants, would always make mistakes that spoil the fantasy. Abuse would start. She wouldn't understand that she wasn't really doing anything wrong- she was just wrong for him.

He could mark her and create a bond, but it would not be the same. If he found his true mate, the immitation would be expendable. He would be perfectly capable of killing her, or letting his mate kill her 'rival'.

She could run from the abuse, from attempted murder, or she might need someone to break in from the outside and get her free.

She might feel guilty about feeling attracted to anyone else. She might be guarded against trusting/loving anyone else after her soulmate became an abuser. Another soulmate, another possessive male would scare her spitless.

There are a lot of potential variations to work with! Why think of all the possibilities just starting with an Alpha who lost his mate and is pushed to search for a second chance mate rather than hide in his room descending into depression and madness.

He could come back with a human and no one in the pack (including the slightly crazy Alpha) would know she wasn't really his mate. The only one to know for sure would be her True Mate...
