          crawling in through the window of the newsboys lodging house at almost four in the morning is never ideal, especially when jack has banned you multiple times from climbing through the same window you've just pulled yourself through. race doesn't care right now, however— he's got bigger issues to worry about.

          teary-eyed & stumbling through the bunk room, they eventually find jack's bed & lie down across him, wiping their eyes on the back of a shaking palm. if it had been anyone else he wouldn't have cried, or showed up so late, but they didn't have anywhere else to go, & jack was the only one that knew about his father. maybe it was too much to ask, but they had to try.

          "jackie? 'm sorry fer wakin' ya if you was asleep, but—" race sighs shakily, screwing his blue eyes shut in an attempt to stop themself from crying any more. "me pa kicked me out again."

@pasthidings,

            [ hazel eyes would close instinctively, though they were the only stilled part of jack as he continued to squirm under eden’s annoyed eye. he’d grin all of a sudden, his now paint specked nose scrunching up as he did so. with it, one eye peeked open cautiously, to ensure that no paintbrush was to attack his eyeball, before the other eye as well and he spoke. ]

            ‘m sorry— the paintbrush bristles are ticklish! what’re ya even doin’ to ma face, anyways, huh ??

[ he raised a brow,, a bit taken aback by the almost brutal honesty of jack ] i- how do i’se knows that you ain’t pullin’ anotha scheme here,, huh? [ he asks,, looking stern,, but in truth that was a facade at this moment ] i wanted to help,, jack,, i really do- did,, but i don’t know anymore…

@-BR00KLYNSHERE,

            i screwed up. big time. believe me, i’ve realized that. but that don’t mean the rest of ya don’t still got a chance wit’ the strike.

            [ jack’s lips would purse, the effect of his colossal screw up now once again shoved into his face. running a hand through his hair, squeezing his eyes shut for a moment, and inhaling sharply was all he could do to collect himself before he would try to reason with the brooklyn leader. ]

            ya wouldn’t be helpin’ / me / — you’d be helpin’ all the newsies out there. so … go an’ talk with race, wit anyone from ‘hattan … but this is bigger than just you an’ me now & i think you can realize that, spot.

starreporter

[ she looked nervous under the blindfold,, not liking not being able to see,, but still enthusiastic ] don’t you think this is a little….. extra? [ she joked,, bumping his arm playfully ] i don’t know if i should be intrigued or scared at this point.

@-KINGOFNEWYORK,

            hm ? ‘course i am. i gotcha, don’t ya worry, kath.

            [ eagerness would be an understatement— what the newsie had written all over his features was the epitome of excited anticipation. with his hand grasping the reporter’s, he continued to lead her as carefully and slowly as he could manage. it wasn’t easy; she was blindfolded & had no idea what was going on, after all. but it was all apart of jack’s plan. ]

            we’re  nearly  there,   i  swear.
