Sexuality and spirituality are inexorably connected; sex at its absolute base is an exchange of energy. I'm a practicing Buddhist who was raised Catholic, and these themes are prevalent in my work. I wrote my first poem, about time, at the tender age of seven. I wrote my first erotic poem, about a teacher, when I was sixteen. It was published in our school's creative writing magazine and landed me in the principal's office. I am still unsure which was the higher accolade.
It's weird that we can admit to our hunger but not our lust in polite society. Both make life possible. I believe that the shame associated with carnal appetites is a great cause of suffering in the world, and I'd like to do my part to change that.
I'm currently working on my first novel, "Our Ninth Life".
