After an honorable discharge from his 11-year service in the Coast Guard, Robert Goetschkes embraced a new chapter in his life by starting a family. As a devoted father, he firmly believes that education and service are the foundation for creating a lasting legacy.

In addition to his roles as an educator and decorated veteran, Goetschkes dedicated his time to several community programs, notably serving in the Red Cross Disaster Services Department for five years. Within this role, he was crucial in providing immediate relief and support to communities affected by natural disasters. Ensuring victims had access to essential resources such as food, water, and shelter was paramount to Goetschkes and his fellow volunteers.

Building upon his belief in the power of education, Goetschkes actively contributed to the Henry Doorly Zoo as an aquarium diver for five years. Leveraging the skills he acquired during his service in the Coast Guard, he played a significant role in maintaining and advancing the zoo's aquarium programs. His commitment to public education extended beyond the classroom, allowing him to make a meaningful impact on the preservation and education of marine life.

Goetschkes maintains a profound passion for continuous learning and personal hobbies outside his professional pursuits. He wholeheartedly immerses himself in various interests, from writing and fly-fishing to disc golf and bird watching. His dedication even led him to achieve the esteemed title of Certified Sous Chef with the American Culinary Federation. Embracing an active lifestyle, Goetschkes enjoys outdoor activities with friends and family. Whether skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, surfing, sailing, or scuba diving, he thrives in the world's natural beauty and cherishes these moments with loved ones.
