Hi! Currently writing a sci-fi novel called Proteus for Naniwrimo 2023. Making some progress. Almost ten thousand words. Show of hands if anyone else is doing Nanowrimo too.

Completely new chapter of Proteus is up! Proteus just found out Ono is a telepath. We learn that the Vexxan Coalition has a big problem with telepaths. Check it out. A bit of a rough draft.

The R'kai are covert black op shapshifters, whispered about in dark corners of the galaxy, feared greatly. Only male Rekarians are shapeshifters so when Proteus, Commander of the R'kai locates a female shapeshifter on the backwater orphan planet, M-36, he wonders if she is an A'vi.
          
          Rumors have flown about the mysterious species ever since he were hatched from his pod fully grown. Acquiring partial coordinates from a dying space pirate on his last mission, he thought to ignore the pleas of gnarled old man but could
          n't forget about it.
          
          On M-36, he rescues Ono from the cruel older children, taking her with him. As they journey together to locate Ono's home world, the encounter dangerous species who all want her for very different reasons.
          
          The Xe'ons want her for one simple reason. Profit. A ruthless species long known for cheating other species out of their prized possessions. Profit motivates them, greed drives them. According to the leader, Zak'd, Ono is a prize worth billions.
          
          The Ba'kor also want Ono. More subtle in their attempts to capture her, they want her for one reason. She is to be worshipped in a shrine filled with idols. Put on display for the rest of her life. Shapeshifters are highly sought after by the Ba'kor, desired for their ability to entertain the Ba'kor masses.
          
          The third group is the most despicable. An unknown adversary that hugged the shadows, following Proteus and Ono wherever they go. When the identity of the lone assailant is revealed, Proteus feels betrayed. He knows the person all to well. Death is the singular goal of the assailant. Death for Ono, prison for Proteus.
          
          None of the three groups have Ono's best interest in mind. She doesn't yet know her purpose. It is up to Proteus to find out. Until then, he must protect her at all costs.

First chapter of Proteus is up! Re-written version with a clearer sense of plot. Written for NaNoWriMo. 2023.

I have published the first chapter of Proteus again. It is largely rewritten, no longer a prologue but the first chapter. Together, Ono and Proteus embark on a journey to locate her home planet, learn of her species while battling dangerous species along the way who want her for their own unscrupulous desires.
          
          Ono is believed to be an A'vi, a largely mythological species long thought to be extinct. The extent of her powers is largely unknown except for her ability to shapeshift. Along the way, more is discovered about her but just when they are getting close to finding her planet, they are captured.
          
          Chapters updated weekly.
          
          Shades of the Mandalorian but not copied. 

To those who are reading Proteus, I am in the process of changing O.N.E. 's pronouns to they/them. This makes sense in light of what O.N.E. can in terms of shifting into other genders and no genders at all. Thanks.
