I was born too late to explore Earth's frontiers. I was born too early to explore the frontiers of outer space.
But I was born just in time to be forced to work endlessly in order to survive in a world that I don't want to live in, a world owned by men. I was born just in time to have access to extremely easy means of escaping this world owned by men. Every escape I could ever hope for is right in the palm of my hand. I was born into a world in which the only means to survive it is to escape it. I am obligated, simply by existing, to work, pay taxes, and consume until the day I no longer exist; this is a world in which the only way to make existence tolerable is to distract oneself from it altogether. I will never experience the rushing thrill of swinging a sword, or the glory of the hunt. All that I am left able to do is pretend: to create my own worlds, in which I am God, where my characters may live lives of meaning that will never be found here.
