            xv.   rue  takes  halloween  incredibly  seriously  as  it   's   their  favourite  holiday   .   they  will  be  decorating  the  dorms  common  room  whether  the  rest  of  the  class  likes  it  or  not   .   however  they   're   the  type  to  spend  most  of  their  night  in  cemeteries  or  abandoned  and  'haunted'  locations  rather  than  trick  or  treating   .   though  they  won   't   say  no  to  going  with  their  friends  for  a  little  while   .

            xiv.   they  speak  aloud  in  response  to  their  hallucinations  a  lot   ,   usually  answering  them  aloud  or  getting  frustrated  at  them   .

            what a cruel twist of fate to have kimiko here in front of them, one of their best friends , one of the few people fuko could say they truly cared about, had come to them. in another reality, maybe that's what they would've wanted, maybe in another reality, this would 've gone better than it was in reality. maybe they would've simply gone /home/ with her instead.
            
            but the silence was almost suffocating, enveloping them and pressing down on their chest, it made it hard for them to inhale, it hurt to exhale. there were never awkward silences, all the times they had snuck over to her dorm to study, or to watch movies or to stay over for the night, this never would've happened.
            
                      yet it was and it was because of them, everything was because of them — they had left u.a in order to protect people from being hurt of their own shitty luck, but in doing so, they had made things worse.
            
            leaving u.a behind had also meant them leaving a piece of them behind — a small price to pay, they initially thought. too stuck in their own mindset to see how it would hurt those around them, or perhaps that wasn't right, perhaps they knew.. maybe they knew and they still chose to turn their back anyhow. but what one was worse .ᐣ rue didn't know, they didn't /want/ to know.
            
                      ❝ kimiko... ❞ words now difficult to form once tears soon pricked their eyes, now obscuring their vision — and because of so, they had to look down and away from her. they had tried to ignore them for so long, tried to push them down and away from the surface, but now they couldn't even swallow down the lump in their throat without choking on it.
            
            ❛ i never meant for it to get this far ❜, rue wanted to protest, to tell her that they never meant to cause her pain, but the truth laid thick between them like a bitter pill — actions spoke louder than words, and rue's actions had spoken volumes.
            
            so, a quiet ❝ i — i 'm sorry ...  ❞ had been all they were able to choke out without sobbing.

it was almost cruel how easy it was for them to get under her skin. for them to remind her of all the things that happened between them. every hang out session, every joke told, every sleepover. everything was nothing but a / lie / now. 
            
            everything they had shared ... well, it meant nothing now. not when it had just been so / easy / for them to leave her behind like that. 
            
            kimiko had been hopeful. wishing that she had been one of the people who was / actually / close to rue. but of course, hope was always so / stupid / in a cruel world like this. in a world of superheroes, hope lead nowhere.
            
            there's silence once again ; an awkward one. it wasn't comfortable like it would've been if they had stayed. if they had / never / decided to leave her. but they did. and it ruined that bond they once had. 
            
            kimiko knew the truth though. even if she didn't agree with their decision to leave, she understood why they did. having bad luck like they did was eventually gonna cause someone to get hurt so leaving would be the best option. but it hurt. it hurt to see her best friend just up and leave. 
            
            "you ..." there's a pause, red eyes scanning over them. it was like she was trying to analyze them. and maybe she was ; she wasn't exactly sure herself. 
            
            "i don't care if you hurt me ... i would've been okay with that. hell, i'd let you hurt me a million times." and it was true. she'd rather be hurt by their bad luck then ever have to lose her best friend. but it was too late now.
            
            she had already lost her best friend.

            in any other situation , rue would have been hoping for forgiveness , if it was with anyone else other than kimiko . . . but the guilt laying heavy on their shoulders was a reminder for them . they didn 't deserve it , not this time , not after what they had done , what they had caused .
            
            they had left u.a in order to protect their friends , knowing if they kept them at arms length , they wouldn 't be affected by the bad luck that was instilled in their very bones and marrow . they thought what they were doing was for the better , that it would /fix/ everything that had been broken . . . not make it /worse/ .
            
            their gaze lifted from the floor , breath hitching at her words , in the back of their mind they knew she was right . she was right , they shouldn 't have left . . . or they should 've said goodbye at the very least , but they hadn 't . too afraid to face the people they called their best friends , they opted for taking the easy way out instead .
            
                   ❝ i . . . i couldn 't , i didn 't want to because then . . ❞ cerulean hues squeezed shut , exhaling a shaky breath , they knew this would happen eventually , it was inevitable to avoid they were sure , but . . . that didn 't make it any easier .
            
            ❝ . . . because then i 'd had to face that i was hurting you guys . ❞
            
            their gaze focused on their hands , they had begun trembling , though not out of fear , they had been trying not to break — but that was becomingly increasingly difficult for them to hold up . yet they wouldn 't . . . they couldn 't , it wouldn 't be fair to kimiko , not here or now , not ever .
            
                ❝ you know i 'd take every hit . . ❞ voice now barely above a whisper , rue gave a weak laugh , too suffocated by their own guilt to do much more then that .
