            he nodded. "It won't bother me. you could explore the palace anyways ,, large place." he knew sokka would most likely distract him ,, but he could deal with it. he was much less ill-tempered than he used to be ,, opting for a calmer and more collected approach now. his uncle iroh's teachings had gone far in that aspect. "I think aang will definitely come looking for both you and appa here soon ,, a few days time at the most. you know he loves appa." he liked to think that he had changed much from when he was 16 ,, boy were those some memories to remember. he was still stubborn and headstrong ,, but he found himself doubting his abilities to be the fire lord . there had been more than one attempt on his life ,, that and he wasn't getting the right amount of sleep. not to mention that while he had at first been so ready to disband the fire nation colonies ,, he had realized how much fire nation people and especially earth kingdom people had integrated. he now would have to uproot them all. and if he didn't it might spell disaster ,, or even another war with the earth nation.
            
            but he let those thoughts dissolve into the back of his mind ,, because right now sokka was here. and he was more than elated about it. he almost ha forgotten how animated sokka could be ,, but he was again reminded when he suddenly stood up ,, putting his boomerang away. "glad you're accepting my offer. maybe later we can spar. I want to see how good you are." he said ,, and upon hearing the suggestion to go and feed appa ,, he stood. he was dressed in more casual clothing today ,, he wasn't to be expected at any business or events that required him to dress formally. of course he was still in usual red fire nation clothes though. "that sounds like a good idea. I've missed him ,, though i didn't miss him licking me." he said.

    ❝really? i wouldnt want to get in the way of your fire lord business..❞ sokka scratched the back of his head nervously, he was happy about the offer but he knew zuko couldn't afford to be distracted during certain times. and sokka knew he was a loud person whether intentionally or not, he didn't want to upset his friend with how he was. ❝i probably wont be here too long, once aang finds out he'll come searching for appa. me too probably.❞ he didn't necessarily want to be berated by a twelve year old boy but what could he do, he had taken aangs sky bison without asking so. and he seemed to wince at the thought of his sister discovering him here, without them. he was sure she knew about his feelings for zuko, even without having said anything. maybe it was sibling intuition or that sokka was too readable but he felt uneasy at the idea of her coming and embarrassing. or even dragging him away as if she were his mother. 
            
              ❝you know, if it really is okay with you, i'll take you up on that offer!❞ he pushed back from the table and stands up, hands moving to his hips. he then grabbed and places his boomerang back away. sokka then had a bright idea, he had left the large animal companion to sit alone outside of the village, for now. he hadn't wanted to cause a commotion but his blue eyes shined with mischief. sokka knew appa liked zuko, for some reason, oh who was he kidding, HE liked zuko too. it was different but still. ❝i didnt want to cause a commotion by bringing appa into the village but I'm sure he'd want to see you! how about we bring him something to eat, together?❞

            zuko was an attentive listener ,, especially since the question had been genuine. he didn't know what sokka had planned to do after things had settled down. there were now so many places to go that he couldn't fathom anyone who had the ability to to not do so. he himself was happy doing the opposite. he was happy to be more sedentary now ,, after being banished when he was young and having to be on the move and on the run for so long. but it sounded like sokka had really been doing quite a bit in terms of helping the southern water tribe. his eyebrows raised at the mention of sokka and swordsmanship. "You've been practicing with swords? I'll have to see that one day." he said. he wouldn't have thought of it ,, only because sokka was so attached to his boomerang.
            
            " hm.." he said as he mulled over his next words carefully. "you're welcome to stay here for a while in the fire nation. You can eve stay at the royal palace if you'd like . take as much time off for a break as you want. can't say much for if katara comes here though." he said ,, using a finger to trace the rim of his almost - empty cup. he wouldn't even know how to go about telling sokka how he felt. he knew how he felt ,, but there was no guarantee that sokka felt the same way. how did the water nation view gay relationships? how would it affect him being fire lord? his position was already tenuous over some of the older members of the fire nation who had supported his father.
