In February 2000 then President Robert Mugabe lost a referendum for a new constitution. Weeks later, apparently to strengthen his failing political power, Mr Mugabe ordered his supporters to invade white-owned farms. David Rockingham-Gill was the regional spokesman for the Farmers Union in the Makonde region of Zimbabwe at the time. He has methodically documented as much information as he can about the land he so loved, as he knew it at the time. In these Chapters lies a valuable history of people and place and a reminder of the extensive commercial farming operational in Zimbabwe before the land invasions. It is David's hope that generations to come will read about what happened and know the potential of this incredible place, once known as 'the breadbasket' of Africa.
