HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! This is the first Mother's Day without mine. My mother viewed much of the world with an artist’s eye. She loved long drives and found endless inspiration on country roads. Yesterday I took the most scenic route possible from our home in Houston to the cemetery in Texas Hill Country where she’s buried, and saw her artistic spirit at every turn. A rusty mailbox, its nameplate faded. An old barn, grey and weathered and threatening collapse. A pristine field, dotted with large round bales of hay. Acres of corn, planted in perfect rows. Rolling hills, bright and green from the recent rains. Abandoned tractors, baked from the elements. Old majestic oaks, shading newborn calves and their mommas. Miles and miles of Indian Paintbrush, carpeting the countryside. Springtime sunlight, skipping across a shallow pond. The things we view for a split second and then forget are the things my mother stopped to photograph, study, and later paint. On this Mother’s Day, take time to observe, reflect, and honor those simple yet beautiful moments in your life. Mark them on your memory and etched them in your heart. If your mother is still with you, hold her close. If she’s in Heaven, hold her memory closer. God bless all the beautiful, selfless mothers - today and always.
@SuzyEngland Happy Mother's Day! Your mom would love the way you spent it, celebrating and honoring her spirit.
