I'm a Rhet/Comp and Creative Writing prof/PhD student in TX. If you have any questions about essay writing (or anything! Book recs even! Reading is the most important thing) I'm happy to answer them, though I won't look at drafts. Now that it's Winter Break, I have time, and helping students is my favorite thing in the world. I'm not asking for anything in return. Teaching uni full time has really shown me that helping students with writing is my path.
Your voice deserves to be heard. Studying writing is not about molding your voice or breaking it, which are the top concerns (or resentments) students report when entering my class. It's about naming skills you already possess so that they may be refined, and teaching you the standards and forms that help you develop a louder and more effective voice in the conversation. Your voice is important so let's work on it! Remember that we must always first fail because it's how we learn to succeed, so don't be afraid of failing at first. Never stop fighting.
PS: I do Wattpad in my spare time, as a whetstone for my writing. I have a story coming out in the Minnesota Review in the spring, and have previously won a national award for unpublished literary manuscript. I also read Creative Non-Fiction (previously Fiction) for a nationally distributed literary magazine.
All that being said though, queer historically-researched vampire fiction is my passion, and I would love to talk about my work with you. The work you see here has been my passion project of more than two decades.
Happy reading (and writing, and striving, and failing, and succeeding)! :)
