Hi, I'm Andy. My old call sign was Metro Alpha 9, which is where this tag comes from. I served with London's Specialist Firearms Command as a firearms commander, retiring from policing in 2016 after 35 years of service.

I haven't fully retired, though. I now work in transport policing and enforcement, a much simpler life. Even that has changed over the years. I originally worked plain clothes in the night‑time economy, dealing with unlicensed taxi touts, sex offenders posing as licensed drivers, illegal operators and other unsafe practices around public transport. These days I'm mostly in uniform, trained as an advanced vehicle inspector, and only get to do plain‑clothes work occasionally (much to my annoyance).

I grew up moving between countries with the British Army. My father was a Sergeant in transport and logistics, though, unusually, we were almost always posted with the RAF or in non‑Army environments. I always found that odd, and he rarely spoke about his work. Only recently did I learn he spent most of his career supporting special forces and was involved in several major operations. He had more medals than I do and I've since discovered he should have had even more, but never received them because the Army wasn't "officially" involved.

I now live in Kent, just outside London. Married to Grace and with two grown-up daughters who have given us two amazing grandchildren.

I'm only beginning my interest in writing in 2025. Before this, most of my writing was reports, operational reviews, and updates on a work‑only social media platform, though I did build a decent following there. I'm a keen wildlife and portrait photographer and have been for many years. I'm hoping to write a series of books to leave for my grandchildren.

My interest at present is Fantasy, which I've always loved, but I have thought about writing a little about real-life experiences, I've certainly had my fair share.
