So I'm writing in analysis piece on fandom culture- specifically shipping culture- for my college essay, and I am surprised at that I have to explain terminology such as "fandom", "shipping", and "canon"- which come second nature to me, as someone who spent the vast majority of her life in fandoms.
          
          This isn't me looking at them like "oh wow they're so stupid how can they not know this", I just haven't thought about- is this what culture shock is/feels like???

I could technically also say that I'm surprised I have to explain what Aromantic, Asexual, and Aroace is, but the reality is I'm not.
            I've met a lot of people who don't know what the terms mean or even the difference if they do- even within my own queer community.
            
            So not, I'm not surprised I have to explain that.
