I wasn't— it's not as weird as it looks. I don't get stuck on trees a lot. Or... ever, really. I can wait upside down for a few more hours if you're busy.. Really!!

Poor Dexter! She could understand why he felt so conflicted! But the more he described the whole situation to her, the worse her laughter would get — she couldn't help it! Feeling bad for him, she would pat his back — but given how he was laughing too, she felt a bit more relieved that he also didn't seem able to resist the humour of the entire event. She would never listen to Bruno Mars again without remembering this!
Kate opened the door to the coffee shop while listening to him, gesturing for him to walk in first before following him inside. "I really wish I could've had seen it all! Jeez... next time someone asks you to play Bruno Mars? Don't. Or don't go up on a tree — I dunno what the lesson is. This explains why I keep on making the same mistakes," she doesn't learn! With a chuckle, she continued: "Perhaps we should repeat the experiment, this time with Ed Sheeran... just to be sure," with a wide smile, the archer gestured for him to choose a booth. Whichever he chose it was fine by her. "Coffee's on me. You deserve it after what the douche made you go through. How would you like it?"

It was entirely incidental and it wasn't like these crazy things were always happening to him- they were just common enough that he still had the courtesy to be embarrassed by it. He imagined she knew what it was like, and the look on her face as he finished his story was speaking to her amusement. "Hey!! Why are you—" although Dexter tried to protest, he got halfway through before he too was falling into an uncontrollable laughter at the situation. The embarrassment was quick to subside, tears brought to his eyes at the situation as he nudged her with his shoulder. "It was so embarrassing!! She looked at *me* like I was the crazy one! I didn't know when I was supposed to stop, 'cause he already paid me and maybe it would've been rude to stop out of nowhere. What if he totally blames me for that? The music was too much, I did try to say.." He turned his head away to chuckle again, hoping he wouldn't end up laughing at it in its entirety again— he was going to lose his breath pretty quickly! "He seemed like a douche anyway. You should've heard it!! He was totally un-romantic, despite the guy in the tree playing the Bruno Mars."

She sent a small, (seemingly — she wouldn't deny nor confirm it) sheepish smile his way, shaking her head as a way of saying 'You're welcome' without actually saying the words. The sentiment was clear, though — and as he decided to share the story with her, the once soft smile quickly evolved into a playful smirk. The archer could tell already it would be a good one, after all, the chaotic and Hawkeye-ish energy that emanated from him was undeniable! He must be a distant family member, she wouldn't know how to explain it if the theory didn't involve a shared ancestry! Even if it was all the way back to the Paleolithic era, it doesn't matter! They were far too alike, she didn't know anyone else but them two Hawkeyes to ever get stuck on a tree before... they had some hidden talents that -- well, should actually remain hidden, for they're rather embarrassing, but Kate would always sympathize with another poor, chaotic soul!
When he finished, the archer wasn't disappointed — she was laughing out loud (surely relating and inwardly admitting something like that could've definitely happened with her... which probably explained why she found it all so funny), and she couldn't seem to stop. Eventually, while trying to control herself, she would blurt out — still out of breath: "I'm sorry! I'm not laughing *at* you, I'm laughing because... aw, man. This is just so good. Bruno Mars, even! So hopelessly romantic, and then..." she hid her face behind her palms, trying to avoid the laughter that threatened to restart.

"It isn't something to worry about, though. I'm good! I just figured out I need to *exhaust* myself, mentally, before I go to sleep. Sometimes reading helps, trying to picture every little detail described in the book. Sometimes trying to solve puzzles do the trick — Clint's brother visited him the other day and forgot some crosswords there. I asked Clint if I could keep it, he just waved a hand dismissively, which I took for a 'yes'. It was interesting! I learned a couple of new words as a bonus!"

The crazy part is, that even if she went around with her topic hopping, the archer knew all the 'tabs' she opened in this metaphorical 'browser', to the point she would somehow find a way to return to the first topic — if she didn't get far too carried away, to the point she forgot some in the way. It isn't intentional, she swears! But her mind worked too fast even for her to keep up sometimes.
She much admired his capacity of developing a topic linearly, though, with a beginning, a middle and an end... or even just his personal conclusion, for not all topics truly had an end, right? It would take her a huge effort to stay focused, though. She had a lot going on simultaneously in her head, so it was admittedly harder to get things filtered and organized properly. The same was true for her whole life! She wasn't proud of the chaos, but she didn't know any other way.

And not to say she was completely incapable of linking the topics, because that issue itself was the main reason why she had trouble sleeping. Lights out, eyes closed, a comfortable bed or couch... and as soon as her head hit the pillow, it all starts: ideas for her cases, things she could've done or said differently. Sometimes not even about the current case or situation, sometimes it was all from years ago! And it would all still come back to her when she lied down to sleep.
"I guess I just... I can't really turn off my head, honestly," she responded, this time with the sincerity that lacked the first response.

It wasn't that he minded her so-called topic hopping (if anything, it was rather endearing when he'd figured out how to keep up) but he himself was more formulaic. He had a topic, wanted to be able to work through it properly- perhaps estimate what the other person would say so he could make sense of it before it even happened. There would always be exceptions. Like that very moment, when her eyes looked tired and he couldn't help but wonder, seeing as he knew her sleeping habits weren't exactly functional anyway.

"Oh, right." Jack's tone made it obvious that he didn't believe her, only because the fact that she almost said her answer like it was a question made it pretty unbelievable. And, besides, she was never going to be outright about it. It wasn't like he asked the question and expected her to open her heart to every single thought she's ever had about it. He paused for a moment, not entirely sure that his knowledge on the topic would suffice.

"D'ya know what it is that makes it harder t'sleep?" He questioned idly. Perhaps he was lucky in that his issues with sleep were routed in something else, maybe it was different if it was general insomnia. But Jack had no idea- maybe the insomnia was paired with something she was worried about, or it was stress. He could come up with all the hypotheticals but, not being an excellent person when it came to talking about stuff like that, it was only ever conspiracies until he asked. His boss told him that being blunt about things might actually be a benefit. Jack's eyes were watching her as she drove, and wouldn't take it personally if she told him to back off. He would, however, probably just approach the topic at a later date.
