Orang’o Edited & Revised by Ilona Gracia ABOUT THE MANUSCRIPT Let justice prevail is a novel that tells of the struggles of a presidential candidate, Mr. Abdi Anwar Bashir, to prove his innocence in a case filed against him. He is accused of sexually and physically abusing Mrs. Eleanor Jonson Jabib, his mistress. The novel tells of the efforts undertaken by Mr. Orwa Ojijo, Mr. Bashir’s lawyer, as he seeks to prove of his client’s innocence and thus secure his release before the coming elections take place. Mr. Bashir is finally acquitted of the charges made against him, and he resumes his political campaigns. Newspaper polls show that he is the most popular presidential candidate ahead of the incumbent president. However, Mr. Bashir loses the elections to the incumbent, and the country is thrown into turmoil as its citizen’s take up arms against each other. Many people are killed during the violent demonstrations and the country is divided along tribal lines. The incumbent president is immediately sworn into office and he is promptly flown out of the country. CHARACTER AND CHARACTERIZATION The story revolves around Mr. Abdi Anwar Bashir, a presidential candidate in the coming presidential elections facing trial for sexually abusing Miss. Eleanor Jonson Jabib. Mr. Bashir is represented by lawyer Orwa Ojijo in the court’s proceedings. Mr. Ojijo is a competent lawyer who goes to great lengths to prove his client’s innocence. The court’s proceedings are presided over by Judge Kioko, a no-nonsense and greatly respected judge. Also in the story is a Mrs. Jane Wairimo, who is a witness in the court proceedings and is later engaged to Mr. Ojijo. THEMATIC CONCERNS Various themes are evident in the story. These include politics, violence, foul play, love and romance as well as the quest for justice which forms the larger part of the story
