A loud, repeating knock woke me from my peaceful sleep. Bang. Bang. Bang.
I groaned, blinking the dots from my eyes. "Benny? Who is that?" I called. No response.
I shined my phone's flashlight through the adjacent door, which was open, oddly. Normally, I'd see Benny, falling off the bed and tossing in his sleep, but this time there was only ruffled and thrown sheets.
Bang. Bang. Bang. I squinted at the bright display screen. 1:26?! Who is banging on the door at 1:26?!
I forced myself out of bed, vulnerable to the freezing New Jersey night.
"Benny," I blindly groaned. " Where the hell did you go?!" Bang. Bang. Bang.
Strangely, I could now hear a creaking sound, rocking back and forth outside the door. I fidgeted with the lock, struggling to see with my eyes still adjusting to my blindingly bright phone light.
In the center of the hallway hung Benny, blood draining in rivers down his half naked body. His vibrant hazel eyes were now empty red sockets, pools of blood and scarred tissue. A single overhead light blinked repeatedly, flashing light on my best friend's corpse.
"Benny?" I cried, praying this was all a dream.
As I tried to reach out to test reality, I noticed a figure approaching down the hall.
"Help!" I desperately cried, stumbling out of my room. "Please, help me!"
It stepped into the blinking light, the blood on it's face and sinister smile slowly creeping from the shadows. I slammed the door shut, but before it could latch, the door flew open, the edge catching my forehead. I sobbed, clutching my head as three spinning figures stood above me. It stooped over me, mulling over my feeble self.
"Who are you?!" I finally weeped as the thing in the devil mask slowly, silently slid the dagger across my throat.
"I'm the Jersey Devil," I responded in a deep, disguised voice. I watched it tower above me before it left as if nothing happened. I layed in the cold, dark dorm as I stared at my best friend's corpse hanging in the hallway and bled to death. All Rights Reserved
