Do you want to make writing a regular part of your life, or to reconnect or start fresh with a creative project or activity? I understand, and I can relate. I created this workbook, from my heart to your screen, in the hopes of helping you. The workbook is divided into 7 sections and 2 parts that explore your journey with writing as well as solutions to common challenges that either stop us from writing or slow us down when we're working towards making our writing dreams come true. Each section includes questions and exercises designed to help you feel EXCITED and good about writing, and motivated and ready to write regularly, no matter what your schedule might be. If you enjoy this free preview and think this workbook would be helpful, you can access it by becoming a paid subscriber to my newsletter Doing the Write Thing: https://doingthewritething.substack.com/p/workbook-start-fresh-and-reconnect. If a subscription is outside of your budget, I understand! To help decide whether this workbook is right for you, you can review the workbook table of contents in the "Coming Soon" section of this newsletter post: https://doingthewritething.substack.com/p/writing-tip-6-read-what-you-love. Thank you for reading, and I wish you luck on your writing journey!

Is it just me, or is learning to write fiction just a series of questions and answers that lead to more questions? The longer I spend with other writers, the more I realize I still have to learn. This book will discuss some of the many questions I have had (or still have) about writing. I'll also answer some questions people have asked me. How do I write good stories? How do you write so many words so fast? What genre is it anyway? Do I really NEED to do it that way? Is there a way to find readers for my work? What is a critique partner? How can you know what you don't know? The list goes on. I'm sure I'll come up with even more while I'm writing the book. Which is why I don't know exactly where this book will take me. I just know I'll learn a lot and, hopefully, give you something of value as well. Join me as I write about what I've learned so far and ask the questions I'm still working through. Share your own knowledge in the comments. Ask questions you want the answers to. No matter who you are or how long you've been writing (or if you're just thinking you might want to start), this is your place, too. Welcome.

Hello readers and aspiring authors! Living Life Authorly will be an ongoing list of articles that I write and include in my newsletters. Every other month, I will focus on some aspect of writing or some aspect of being a writer, and that piece will be included in the bimonthly (every other month) newsletter I send out to my followers. A month after sending out my newsletter, I post the article to my blog. I will also start posting them here on my Wattpad page as well. Some articles might be about my experiences in the world of writing, my adventures at book and author events, or tips and ideas about writing and marketing. Whatever I might be writing about, I hope it will offer some inspiration or encouragement to you in some way or another. Happy reading and writing! - J.E. Johnson

Worldbuilding is more than just maps! Culture is the WHY we think, believe, and behave the way we do. Creating a believable secondary world, with consistent internal logic, idioms, taboos, and politics can be tricky. Luckily, I'm here to help you devise the best possible setting for your story! Filled with thought exercises, explanations, and question lists, I encourage you to grab your prettiest notebook, pick out your favorite pen, and start following along. If you'd like a paperback version of this workbook, so you can scribble directly on the pages, please visit jmfrey . net / books.
