Part 4: Mercury-Venus Conjunction
Throughout the night Elena continued to toss and turn until she couldn't handle it anymore. She sat up, running her fingers through her hair and shoving her blankets aside. She seen an alarm clock on the nightstand, showing bold green letters that is was six o'clock in the morning.
She figured Kai would wake her up in a very unpleasant way, so she was actually glad she didn't sleep. Standing up and pacing she continued to think over all the questions she had wondered throughout the day- or the day before.
If he was just going to torture he, why would he let her feed? She could go without blood about two weeks before turning to stone, so why would he give her blood?
Why did Kai decide to be a gentleman and take the couch? Most captors wouldn't be so kind, so why was he?
If he were truly evil wouldn't he have slept in the same room?
And the question bothering her the most. Why wasn't she trying to escape? She had every reason to, but she wasn't. It was dark, Kai was most likely asleep, and it would be the perfect opportunity to just slip away into the night. All she could think about though, was whether or not to go down the stairs and face the man that had kidnapped her, and talk to him. No specific question, nothing important, just curiosity.
Inhaling deeply, she carefully opened the door and crept down the hall to the top of the stairs. She took the first step, holding her breath, hoping the old wooden stairs wouldn't creek.
She took the steps slowly, not letting a single creek escape from under her. Once she reached the bottom she seen Kai sitting on the couch eating a bowl of cereal.
"Why are you up so early?" Elena realized how stupid she was, trying to be quiet and not wake him when he was already awake.
"I'm going to kill my sister today." Kai smiled, scooping a bowl of the colorful cereal into his mouth. "I googled it and there is a..." Kai paused looking back to his phone. "Mercury-Venus Conjunction, tonight."
"Your really going through with this?" It wasn't really a question because she knew the answer, but she still couldn't believe it.
"Yeah, that's why I'm fueling up," Kai joked, holding nip the bowl of cereal, before setting it back down and standing. "Pack your bags, were going home."

"They're not here!" Damon practically growled through the phone, throwing a lamp to the ground and shattering it. He spent the whole night driving to that little farmhouse to find it abandoned?
"What do you mean? That was our only lead on where they were. Do you think that girl lied?" Alaric asked, looking back at the living room full of witches. Luke, and Liv were both trying to get Jo ready to merge, when Kai decided to come back. She wasn't the best, but in a a week or two she would be ready, and they had confidence in that.
"Why would she... Unless," Damon eyes narrowed as he rushed out of the house and started his car. "It was a set-up to get me out of the way. Kai's coming to Mystic Falls. You have to get Jo ready for the merge, it's happening tonight."
"But she's-" Alaric was cut off as Damon hung up. "Thanks buddy."
"What was that about?" Luke asked quietly, walking up behind Alaric as they watched Jo start yet another fire.
"Sorry!" They heard Jo yelled as Alaric led Luke out of the room.
"He's coming, tonight. Jo isn't ready, we have to get her out of town." Alaric explained. He knew Damon would hate him, but he couldn't risk Jo's life. Not now, not ever.
"But she has to merge. It's her duty to the coven." Luke was stubborn, but even he saw the fault in his idea. Kai couldn't be the leader of the coven, or he would be unstoppable.
"Don't be stubborn, you know he'll wine," Alaric was practically on his knees, pleading for Luke to help.
"Fine, Liv will take Jo out of town, and I'll hold off Kai." Luke quickly rushed out of the front door to go practice his magic and Alaric went back into the room.
"Pack your bags we have to leave. Kai's on his way." Alaric announced, grabbing one of Stefan's duffel bags and tossing their grimoires in.
"What? He's coming back, I thought Damon was going to get him?" Live cut in, following him as he walked up the stairs to pack weapons. Jo was close behind Liv, with her eyes widened in fear, she had no chance at beating him.
"It was a decoy. He's coming to Mystic Falls, and he wants to merge, tonight." Alaric went into Damon's room and into the top drawer of his dresser, packing the bourbon. "That's why we have to get Jo out of here, he's been practicing and getting better. No offense, but he'll kill you."
"I can't just run or he'll kill all of you. I can't keep running-" Jo started to explained, until she past out.
"She won't stay out for long, get her in the car and let's go. Kai is powerful, and I don't feel like dying today." Liv walked out of the room with her arms crossed and her face set in determination.

"When I was five I wanted a puppy for about a week, but then-"
"How much longer?" Elena cut off his rambling, looking at him with an annoyed expression. Only ten minutes in the car with him and she almost missed having her neck snapped.
"It's not everyday you get to kill your sister. I plan to enjoy every minute of this day, maybe get a hat or something?" Kai looked over at Elena with a smile. He couldn't stop smiling, today he would get everything he wanted and nothing could stop him.
"Is this your way of telling me you took the 'scenic' route?" Elena groaned, looking back out the window at the seemingly endless forest. In the middle of nowhere, with her worst nightmare.
"Maybe a shirt? We could get matching shirts. You know shirts are kind of our thing. Buying them, then burning them, it's actually kind of kinky." Kai looked at her with a smile, waiting for her to get mad.
"Excuse me sir, how much longer until Mystic Falls?" Elena decided asking the cab driver would be more effective. They didn't have a car anymore, thanks to her attempted escape, so Kai called a cab company.
"Five more minute, doll," the old guy replied with a thick accent, not in a creepy way, but more as a habit.
"That was so double handed and sneaky," Kai mused, referring to her attempted escape. "It was kind of... hot. No one likes a boring kidnap victim. Better yet, Kai-nap victim." Kai stressed the 'Kai' part and motioning with his hands. Elena narrowed her eyes, trying to ignore him. "Get it?" Kai hit her shoulder with his hand, biting his lip as he pretended to be overcome with laughter.
Elena glanced over at him and couldn't help but smile. He may be psycho, but his smile was infectious, and always made her want to giggle.
"Oh, it would be really suck-y if you burned in the sun and 'accidentally' started me on fire again. So, I got you this." Kai tossed her a ring. She picked it up and seen that it was a lapis lazuli ring, and it fit her finger perfectly. "I had to travel all the way out here for a new one, spent the whole day searching and everything. The spell was actually really easy, Bippity Boppity Boo and it was done."
Elena looked up at him, trying not to seem suspicious - which she was. First he sleeps on the couch, then he gives her a ring? It might not seem like much, but with Kai? That has to mean something, right?
"Why?" Elena couldn't help but ask as she admired the ring. Kai raised his eyebrow in confusion until he seen her looking down at her ring.
"If you start on fire again, I don't want my shirt ruined. Don't read so much into everything. I do things for me, not for anyone else." Kai seemed kind of annoyed as he turned towards the window, starting to get impatient as well.
"Sorry, next time I'll realize your a self-serving psychopath." Elena put on a fake smile, crossing her arms and resisting the urge to snap his neck.
"That's good, real funny," Kai chuckled, kicking his legs up onto her lap, with a groan as he leaned his head back dramatically. "This is supposed to be fun. Why's it taking so long?"
"Right here," the guy announced, taking a turn, revealing the Whitmore College medical center.
"Ready to see your first merge?" Kai asked, smiling deviously as he looked up at the school.
