THIRD PERSON POV
There are three things needed in every relationship, trust, communication, and understanding. Trust to believe in your partner, their loyalty, their risks, without it, you won't have a connection. Communication to know what they want, what they feel, and what they need. But communication is nothing if neither aren't able to understand why you do the things you do, why you are going down the path you stand on.
Unfortunately, there's a couple where these qualities have deteriorated, leading them to false conclusions and regrets...
RUBY'S POV
Never would I have thought that when I went to Beacon I would get into a relationship, especially not a poly relationship where my teammates and half-sister would also date my man. Y/N didn't have a team but he didn't let that stop him, he was less of a solo fighter and more of a supporter, as a result, he would often join other teams on missions and assist them, something that along with his friendly attitude made him be liked by everyone he has worked with.
For the past month our boyfriend has been acting weird, at first we just shrugged it off since we were also heavily occupied by a series of hard tests, now however we had enough. He would constantly text someone, and be oftentimes gone for almost an entire day. At first, we didn't want to consider it, but at this point, it was clear that he was cheating on us.
Now we were waiting for Y/N to come to the dorm, we were going to break up with him. We all just stood around, staring at the door. Finally, Y/N steps in, his cheerful demeanor drops when he sees our expressions.
Y/N: "What's going on?"
Ruby: "We-"
Weiss: "What's going on? WHAT'S GOING ON!?!! WE KNOW YOU'RE CHEATING ON US MOTHERFUCKER!!!" She screams at him as she cuts me off.
Blake: "We know you're cheating on us, don't even try to hide it." She said arms crossed.
Y/N: "Wha-"
Yang: "We're breaking up with you."
Y/N looks at all of us with wide eyes, with a hurt expression he runs off. Weiss just growls and slams the door closed after him, the others try to occupy themself as they are still fuming, I walk out of the dorm to go on a walk, hopefully, that'll make me feel better.
Y/N'S POV
I bust into my dorm, at first, I just stood there in disbelief trying to understand what just happened, trying to believe that what just happened wasn't real...
I look at my scroll, at the chat between me and my step-sister. Tears stream down my face as my hands shake, I clutch the scroll tightly before throwing it against the wall as it slides onto the ground. I take some things and my weapon before rushing out, I didn't want to stay here.
I couldn't even see where I was going from all the crying, as I turn around a corner I bump into someone. It was my longtime friend Pyrrha, when she saw I was crying she looked at me concerned.
Pyrrha: "Y/N what happened!?" She asked as she held my arm.
Y/N: "I-I...it doesn't matter..." I stutter out.
I get out of her grip and run away, she calls my name but I don't stop, I can't be around here anymore. As I run through the courtyard I could feel people's judgmental stares, I don't know where to go so I just head into the Emerald Forest. Despite the fact that I had my weapon on me, I knew deep down that I wouldn't be able to fight any Grimm in my current emotional state.
After over ten minutes of running I stop and slump down against a tree, I tried to catch my breath as more tears streamed down my face.
???: "You shouldn't be crying, it doesn't suit your pretty face..." A voice suddenly said.
Freaked out I look around frantically, suddenly Ruby stepped out between some bushes. I was about to just leave when I got a second look at her, this wasn't Ruby, not the one I knew at least.
Y/N: "W-Who are you?" I asked as my body tensed up.
Ruby?: "You know who I am Y/N...and you know who the others are as well." She said.
After she said that last bit people looking like Weiss, Blake, and Yang walk out from the bushes. All four of them look at me with sad smiles, as if they knew me. They looked like my Team RWBY but different, you could clearly see that they weren't human, at least not entirely, not without a sliver of Grimm...
Grimm Ruby: "We're your girlfriends Y/N, have you already forgotten us?" She asked as her voice started to break.
Y/N: "I-I didn't but my girlfriends just dumped me in their dorm, you can't be them."
Grimm Yang: "So they did really replace us..." She said somberly.
Y/N: "Who?"
Grimm Blake: "Y/N...that mission we went on a month ago, we never came back from it, Salem made us this way, we've been with Salem all this time." She said.
I couldn't believe it, has the past month really been all a lie?
Grimm Weiss: "We would never willingly dump you, you're our man and not just some toy." She said as she kneeled down and hugged me.
I was shocked at first but then decided to hug back, I started to cry again, this time out of relief and betrayal.
Grimm Yang: "What did those faker whores even dump you for?" She asks as she and the others join in the hug.
Y/N: "I was texting and visiting my step-sister a lot and they accused me of cheating, all I wanted to do was reconnect with my family, I even tried to introduce them to her but they never had the time."
Grimm Ruby: "Well everything's okay now, we're here and we'll never dump you." She said wiping my tears away.
Y/N: "W-Where did those fakers even come from?"
Grimm Blake: "Ozpin..."
Grimm Yang: "He can't show to his minions that he has failed, otherwise they might start to question his leadership and lies."
RUBY'S POV
I can't believe I was doing this, my heart was getting torn apart and I was getting desperate, desperate enough to try and talk to him to see if there was any way that he wasn't cheating, even though I didn't have any hope for that.
I knocked on Y/N's door, I waited for a few minutes but didn't get a response. After waiting for a while I decided to just enter, when the door creaked open I saw that he wasn't there. Some items were gone and so was his weapon, his scroll was laying on the ground though.
I pick up the scroll seeing that it was low on battery, it must've been lying here on this screen for a long while. When I saw the messages on his scroll my heart broke, message after message only further reinforced just how much we fucked up.
The person he was texting this entire time was his step-sister, he was simply trying to reconnect after they hadn't seen each other in a while due to her work. I slumped to the ground as I felt like the biggest cunt in the world, I should've believed him like he always believed us...
GRIMM BLAKE'S POV
We were sitting in a cafe treating Y/N to a reunion date, some people were staring at us due to our slightly weird appearance, thankfully our now Grimm-Esque nature wasn't really obvious, especially not when we wore more casual clothes as opposed to our combat outfits.
Waitress: "Excuse me Sir, these four ladies over there ordered this drink for you." She said, setting the glass down in front of Y/N.
When we looked over we saw Team NDGO sitting at a table in the corner, they waved and smiled at Y/N.
Y/N: sighs "Of course, it's NDGO, those four can never take a hint..." He said annoyed.
Grimm Weiss: "If they try to order any more drinks for our man, please reject them." She said and the waitress nods.
Y/N: "Thanks for the drink though." He said before the waitress left.
Grimm Ruby: "I know what'll make this date even better, TADA!!" She cries out as she pulls out a pack of cards.
Y/N: "Ooooooo, cards against humanity!" He says, excited from his favorite card game.
THIRD PERSON POV
An uncomfortable silence hung over the dorm, Weiss, Blake, and Yang all tried to do something to distract themself but they couldn't concentrate on their actions, they were too hurt to do so.
Ruby bursts into the dorm crying, she climbs into her bed as she continues breaking down. Yang climbs up and holds her tightly, Weiss and Blake also came to the bed looking up concerned.
Yang: "What's wrong Ruby?" She asked as she rubbed her shoulder.
Ruby: "W-We were w-wrong..." She choked out as she looked at them with red eyes.
Weiss: "Wrong about what?"
Ruby: "Y-Y/N..." She replied making the other three girls look angry.
Blake: "We aren-"
Ruby: "YES WE ARE!!!" She said throwing the scroll she was holding at Blake.
After it hit her in the face Blake looks at its screen, when she saw the screen she realized what was wrong. The person Y/N had been texting was his step-sister, Blake passed the scroll on to Weiss.
Blake: "I can't believe it..." She said shocked.
Weiss: "We were wrong after all..." She said frowning.
Yang: "No we are n-"
Ruby: "YANG!! READ THE FUCKING TEXTS ON THE SCROLL!!" She cries out as she slaps Yang's hand off her shoulder.
Yang still shocked by her sister's outburst takes the scroll, and her anger towards Y/N quickly extinguishes, replaced by sorrow.
Blake: "We need to talk to him, we need to-"
Ruby: "WE CAN'T...he left..." She said as she started to cry again.
Weiss: "W-What? when did he leave...where?"
Ruby: "P-Pyrrha saw him leave, he ran off and no one has seen him since..."
A long silence falls over the room, the realization of what they have done finally falling over the other three members...
GRIMM YANG'S POV
We were just strolling through Vale with Y/N, he was still thinking a bit about what happened but he was already much happier. We weren't going to stop until we had that sweet smile of his back, anything for our Y/N.
Y/N stopped suddenly, he was looking at something across the street. When we followed his glance we saw an ice cream stand, we looked at each other and nodded.
Grimm Yang: "You want some ice cream huh?" I asked, wrapping my arms around his shoulder.
Y/N: "I would love some yeah but I don't have any money."
Grimm Ruby: "We'll get some for you."
Y/N: "Y-You don't have to." He replied flustered.
Grimm Blake: "Nonsense, we'll love to get something for our boyfriend."
Grimm Weiss: "You just wait here darling, we'll get the ice cream for you." She said before giving him a peck on his cheek.
We walked over to the stand as he stood there blushing, I couldn't help but giggle at his expression...
THIRD PERSON POV
In order to lift their spirits Team RWBY decided to go to their favorite ice cream place, they couldn't stand staying in their dorm with their troubled minds any longer, they felt like they would snap if they did.
They stopped in their tracks shocked when they got there, across the streets at the ice cream stand were Grimm-Esque clones of them ordering at the counter, what also shocked them was Y/N standing a little bit over to the left.
Weiss, Blake, and Yang walk over to the right of the ice cream place, preparing to strike when Ruby was done with Y/N.
Ruby: "Y/N!!" She cried out relieved.
She went up to hug him and apologize when he backed up, Ruby looked at him heartbroken. Too late had Ruby realized what is going on, Y/N was waiting for the Grimm clones. When Weiss, Blake, and Yang saw that Ruby wasn't going over to engage the Grimm clones they decide to come over as well. Y/N looked only more upset when he saw them walk over, he looked them over cautiously.
Y/N: "No, I'm not going to let myself be hurt by you fakers anymore." He said backing up.
Yang: "They're Grimm!" She cried out in disbelief.
Y/N: "They're more human than Grimm, they told me of Ozpin's lies..."
Ruby: "Y/N..." She said hopelessly.
Y/N looked at her, no one said a thing, when Grimm Ruby called him he walked away with them, Ruby fell to her knees as she watched her love leave them behind. Blake hugs Ruby as she starts crying, they didn't know how but they were going to get their Y/N back, no matter what...
TIMESKIP
Y/N'S POV
I felt like I was about to explode, sitting here with my face completely red. The girls wanted to get some new clothing and wanted my opinion on them, now I was waiting for them to come out of the changing room. Other women looked at me surprised as they walked past, guess they really didn't expect a guy to stick around here.
Grimm Yang: "Oh Y/N~" She called out.
My jaw dropped when I looked at them, they were wearing workout clothes. My nose started bleeding as they strut up to me, they giggled as Ruby helped me with my nose.
Grimm Ruby: "So I take it you like our outfits?" She asked with a knowing smile.
Y/N: "Y-Yeah." I stutter.
Grimm Blake: "Come on girls, let's change and pay, if we stay like this for any longer Y/N is going to pass out." She said with a smirk.
THIRD PERSON POV
Team RWBY was called to a forest area close to a village outside Vale, the people had suffered some Grimm attacks, the more concerning thing is that they reported the Grimm acting weird, something the team experienced themself when they fought them. Now the team was looking around trying to find the reason for their strange behavior, whatever it was, it was bound to be malicious.
BLAKE'S POV
I carefully tread through the forest, looking for anything suspicious. We've split up to speed up the search, there shouldn't be any too powerful Grimm around. I stop when I notice something weird, in the middle of the forest there was a bunch of destroyed plantlife forming a path of destruction. I walk down the path, it seems to be going on forever.
I call the others on my scroll and tell them to come over as I'm certain that this is a lead, slowly I continue down the path of destroyed plants...
WEISS'S POV
We finally found the point with the destroyed plantlife that Blake was talking about, we're about to follow the trai-
Weiss: "AHH!!" I scream out as I'm suddenly flung away a bit.
When I looked up I saw that the shockwave came from the Grimm clones of me, Blake, and Yang. The Blake and Yang ones start to fight Ruby and Yang while my Grimm clone starts charging me, I quickly get up and avoid a swipe from her.
BLAKE'S POV
I continue following the set of footsteps and destroyed plants, they ended when I came to a clearing. There was an old temple, heavily damaged and overrun by moss. Y/N was sitting with Grimm Ruby on the steps, they were talking and hadn't yet noticed me, the other three Grimm clones weren't here.
They didn't notice me walking over to them until my heels hit the old stone, they immediately got up and looked at me. I didn't even care about Grimm Ruby, I could deal with her some other time, my main priority was Y/N.
Before I could get any closer to Y/N he was pushed back by Grimm Ruby who stood in front of him, Y/N looked worried.
Grimm Ruby: "Don't worry Y/N, I'll protect you from this faker." She said.
I quickly take out Gambol Shroud and cut her arm, she cries out as she backs up a bit. Y/N calls out her name and quickly stands in front of her holding his arms out protectively, he was still afraid but determined to protect her. She was clutching her arm as some particles came out of the wound, it wasn't enough to kill and dissolve her completely, but it proved my point.
Blake: "I'm not a faker, but she is!" I cried out pointing to her arm.
Y/N: "W-What?..." He muttered as he looks back at Grimm Ruby's arm.
Blake: "If what she said was true and she is more human than Grimm, then why isn't she bleeding? why did she not have an aura that protected her?" I asked.
Grimm Ruby: "Don't listen to her Y/N!"
Blake: "And to further prove my point that I'm the real one, let me do this..." I said as I cut my arm till my aura shattered, showing him the blood going down my arm.
Blake: "It really is me Y/N, I'm here and I bleed just like a real Faunus would."
Y/N: "I-I...I" He stutters.
Blake: "We genuinely want you back Y/N, we know we made a mistake and you were just trying to reconnect with your step-sister." I said getting desperate.
RUBY'S POV
I thought I could maybe overpower Grimm Blake by overwhelming her with a bunch of attacks, but she easily parried all of them, instead of a weapon she used Grimm tentacles to mess me up, I had a hard time not getting caught up by them.
When I finally got free I put Crescent Rose into war-scythe mode and using my semblance to spin quickly, I cut her tentacles off making her wail in pain. Since they were Grimm they had no auras, it was just a matter of getting past their defenses and cutting them down.
Switching back to regular scythe mode, I jump at her...
THIRD PERSON POV
Weiss tried to hold her Grimm clone in place with glyphs or ice, no matter what she tried her Grimm clone just broke free and continued attacking. Trying to fight her with Arma Gigas was useless as she could easily dart around him, Weiss was just left to her rapier fighting.
Grimm Weiss grew a long bone on her lower right leg, she pulled at it, breaking it off. She started using it as a sword, wailing at Weiss angrily.
Weiss was confused, something about her was different, unlike the others she was overly emotional while fighting. She seems to genuinely be attached to Y/N, she couldn't stand having Weiss around after she hurt Y/N.
YANG'S POV
I cocked Ember Celica and proceeded to rain down fire on my Grimm clone, instead of dodging she just tanked the hits and proceeded to run up to me. I had to use all my speed and agility to block each and every one of her kicks with my fists, the faster it got the harder it became for me to keep up with it.
I blast myself back with Ember Celica to get a break, she looks at me enraged as knife-like horns come out of her forearms. I blast myself around her trying to get a strike in from the back, but before I could hit her she was able to turn around and with two swift slices she used her arm horns to cut open and destroy Ember Celica.
Enraged my semblance activated, my fist went flying at her but somehow she dodged. Before I could react she slammed her leg into me, I fly back as my aura shatters. I get into a coughing fit as she knocked all the air out of me, when I was finally done she stood over me...
BLAKE'S POV
After a long bit of silence Y/N looked up at me, his expression was so heartbreaking.
Y/N: "B-Blake..." He said as he slowly started walking over to me.
I opened my arms ready for a hug, I was just glad to have my Y/N bac-
Y/N: "ARGH..." He cried out.
He stumbled a few steps before falling down, the Grimm Ruby had stabbed him.
Grimm Ruby: "Should've stayed on the right side..." She said with cold eyes.
I was trembling with anger, these cunts have been using him the entire time making him believe they truly loved him and now she just throws him away!
I take out Gambol Shroud and run up to attack her...
Blake: "YOU FUCKER!!"
YANG'S POV
Grimm Yang: "You've had your time with him, but now Y/N is ours." She said as she looked down at me.
I closed my eyes expecting her to end it all, I opened my eyes when I didn't hear anything. Ruby had rammed the spear end of Crescent Rose through her chest, she twitched for a bit before collapsing as she started to dissolve.
Ruby: sighs "That was too close." She says as she holds herself up with her scythe exhausted.
Yang: "Come on we need to find Weiss!" I said as I got up shakily.
We ran over to the direction they went off to, we heard their fighting as we ran through the forest. When we finally got there we saw Weiss was getting strangled by her Grimm counterpart, when Grimm Weiss heard us she starts to smirk.
Grimm Weiss: "Oh lookie, more toys to play with!"
Before we could do anything she cuts into Weiss's right side with her horn and drops her to the ground.
Ruby: "WEISS!!"
A livid Ruby runs up to her and starts clashing weapons, I make my way towards Weiss to check up on her. Before I can get close Grimm Weiss swings at me and blocks my way, I look over at Weiss lying on the ground, not moving.
Grimm Weiss: "I haven't forgotten you blondie!" She snarls with a grin as she deflects another one of Ruby's strikes.
Weiss might die if neither one of us gets to her soon...
BLAKE'S POV
Fucking bitch keeps avoiding my strikes, not even striking back herself. I don't know what game she's playing, all I know is that she'll be dead very soon.
Grimm Ruby: "Getting tired?" She asks with a shit-eating grin.
Blake: "You wish!"
Finally, I'm able to catch her off guard and cut her, she screams out as she quickly changes positions, she slumps over a bit and looks at me angrily.
Grimm Ruby: "Don't think that'll be the end of it."
Suddenly my scroll goes off, I accept the call as I dodge a hit. At first, I could only hear a bunch of panting and running over the speakers, finally, Yang's voice came through.
Yang: "Blake we need you here right now, Weiss is injured and we need to get her out of here now!"
Blake: "Y/N's also injured, he's gonna die if we're not quick!"
Yang: "WHAT!" She cries out in disbelief.
I run over to Y/N and snatch him up, Grimm Ruby tries to keep up with me but can't due to the injuries she sustained. I weave through the forest, trying to find my way back to the others. I almost fall over when a bundle of rose petals almost flies into me, Ruby pops up.
Ruby: "Blake I-" She stops when she sees Y/N.
Blake: "R-Ruby we need to hurry or else he'll die"
Ruby didn't say anything as she just looks at Y/N in my arms, she falls to her knees and starts to shake.
Blake: "Rub-"
Ruby: "ARRRHHGG!!!"
I covered my eyes as Ruby screamed and the entire area gets engulfed in a bright light, my ears start to ring as I can feel myself slipping away.
Y/N'S POV
Ruby: "Y/N...Y/N...Y/N!!" She says louder and louder.
I jerk awake as I take in my surroundings, I had been sleeping on Ruby's shoulder as we were in a small retro-styled dinner.
Ruby: "The others are about to be here." She said holding my hand with a smile.
Right on cue Weiss, Blake, and Yang walked over and sit down in our booth, they each give me a kiss on the lips. I just sit there confused as they order and start talking, after a bit Yang notices my confused expression.
Yang: "Is something wrong Y/N? you look confused."
Ruby: "Still sleepy huh Y/N!" She said giggling before kissing me on the cheek.
Y/N: "Y-Yeah, sorry for worrying you."
Yang: "I know what'll wake you up!"
She pulled me over the table into her cleavage, I tried getting out of her grip for a bit before I just gave up. I certainly felt wide awake when she finally let my head free, the girls laughed when they saw my expression.
Yang: "Knew it'll work!" She said smugly.
I looked down when I felt something on my chest but there was nothing there, then I felt something touching my cheek but there was nothing there either. Confused I look around but there was nothing, I try to ask the girls what was goin-
Suddenly I was looking at Ruby crying over me as I was lying in a bed, when she sees that I'm looking at her she tightly hugs me. I see that the other three were sitting around the bed, or at least they were until they jumped into the bed and joined the hug.
Y/N: "ARGH!!" I cry out when Ruby changes her grip a bit and hurts me.
Ruby: "OH SORRY SORRY!!!" She cries out as she pulls back.
I look down and see the bandages that were slightly tinted red, finally, my memory kicks in and I remember what happened...
Weiss took my hand and held it tightly as she rubbed her thumb over my knuckles, she gave me a sad smile.
Weiss: "W-We're sorry for not trusting you, or not bringing our concerns up in a mature fashion. You always believe in us, yet we couldn't do the same for you..." She said as she trailed off crying.
Blake: "We promise that we'll never let this happen again, that'll we'll never hurt you again."
Ruby: "I-If you'll have us...we'll like to be your girlfriends once more."
They all looked at me tensely as silence fills the room, I gave them a smile as I squeezed Weiss's hand.
Y/N: "Of course, you're still my girlfriends."
They start crying in happiness as they all hug me once more, after they all cuddled up to me, careful to not hurt my injury.
Ruby: "The doctors said you're healed up enough to leave in a wheelchair tomorrow, soooo w-would you like to go out on a date then?"
Y/N: "I would love to."
Ruby: "When you were hospitalized yesterday I maaay have coped by making several reservations for a giant date, s-so it's good you accepted..hehe..." She explained awkwardly.
Some people believe there is some secret to all the happy lasting relationships in the world, in reality, all they need is trust, communication, and understanding...
