it is the constant need for reassurance
usually a fake allay of approval suffices
until the itch to bite at my confidence worsens
this nasty habit was like the incessant biting of nails
gnawed to the surface, i ate away at my identity
devouring my confidence
but this habit is so difficult to break
i try to pepper away the doubt

but im left with stubby pieces
that just won't grow
