How can she be so confident talking about her own death when he can't even imagine a world without her in it?
~~~
Kenna walked close by Din as they walked out of the Razor Crest. The planet was just how Din described it to her. She kept her hand inches away from her holstered lightsaber whereas Din walked through without any worries. Now after they have married and has had time off on Sorgan, their current mission is ago; find Mandalorian's to help deliver the child to the Jedi. Kenna, of course, didn't want the child to go back to the Jedi's. She wanted to raise him as her own, she is a padawan but she doesn't know her abilities. If only she trained harder, just maybe, maybe Din wouldn't be on this wild goose chase of Jedi's.
She has her concerns, of course. What if the child is mistreated? What if she is recognised? What if they force her to stay? What if she causes more damage? Should she end her relationship with Din and the child and split paths to find her own destiny? Or is this her destiny?
It is those thoughts and questions that keep her awake at night, she doesn't want to hurt him but she doesn't want to hurt herself by keeping her power bottled up. Her train of thoughts was interrupted by a low growl. She jumps slightly and Din looks down.
"It's okay, riduur, these creatures won't hurt us unless we hurt them,"
"Uh-huh," She sticks close to his side as they walk down the dimly lit street. Kenna watched men stop their quiet conversations to stare at the odd trio and she gulped. She pulled on her green headscarf, ever since Nevvaro, she decided not to flaunt her face everywhere she goes. She keeps her deep red hair covered under the tatty green cloth along with the lower part of her face. People could only see her emerald green eyes and a few wisps of hair. She saw glowing red eyes watching their every movement. She examined the graffiti on the walls; stormtrooper heads and droid parts. Lots of it has bright crosses or the art is overlapped. Kenna breathed heavily as they finally reached an old building with a large male twi'lek guarding the entrance. He had brown skin and easily subjugated her. It evoked her of Qin and Xi'an that occurred around a year ago. Din takes a step forward and begins the conversation.
"We're here to see Gor Karesg," The large twi'lek examines all three of them curiously. He gives their son a long stare as he coos uneasily. Kenna keeps her eyes trained on him as he takes in all three of them. He cocks his head at the masked Skywalker then his gaze travels lower. Din follows the alien's gaze and holds himself back from lashing out. After he is satisfied after glaring at them, he stands to the side and uses his arm to direct them inside.
"Enjoy the fights," Says his raspy voice. When the doors hiss open, the sounds of cheering fill Kenna's ears as they walk in. Din glares at the dark-skinned twi'lek before placing his hand on the small of Kenna's back to show him and everyone else they see that she is taken by him. She is his riduur. Kenna looks up to see two Gamorrean fighters in a ring, surrounded by blood-thirsty people. Their axes glow and hum as they attempt to strike each other down.
"Riduur," Din starts as they walk among the crowd.
"Yes?"
"You take the child to the back, I'll talk to him and if-"
"If anything happens, call you over," Kenna finishes for him with a smirk. He nods his head.
"Yes," Kenna rolls her eyes and walks to the back, the child's cot bobbing close by. The throng of people decrease and she is finally by the wall. She looks over the heads and sees the shimmer of beskar walk to a particularly old alien with one eye and he sits down next to him. Kenna's gaze wanders and falls on the fighters as they charge at each other, not wanting to be next on deaths' list.
"Hey beautiful," She hears a voice. She sighs and tilts her head to see a human man walk up beside her, two drinks in his hands.
"Kill me now," She mumbles as he stands close to her.
"Say, why cover that pretty face?" He asks, offering her a drink which she raises her hand in refusal.
"Because only a certain few are allowed the honour of seeing this 'beautiful' face,"
"Ahhh, I see now," He stops to take a sip. "Playing hard to get?"
"No, not really," She inches her hand closer to her holstered weapon.
"Well, you like the fight?" He asks, placing one cup down and reaching behind his back.
"No,"
"Really? Kenna Skywalker doesn't like a good fight?"
"Shit," She mumbles looking over to see him reveal a bounty puck of herself.
"I didn't expect you to literally walk into me the first day I get this," She glares at him then the hologram of her face. It was a more recent one, one with her scar.
"The price has been raised again, that doesn't surprise me anymore," She says, yawning while also grasping her saber. "20,000,000 credits, phew, does that sound like desperation or what?" Suddenly, one of the fighters are shot down by the alien Din was talking to and blasters are pulled on him. Everyone screams and begins to run away. However, a few people near the back turn and train their blasters on Kenna, including the one who showed her the hologram. The child carefully watches as Kenna silently unclasps her lightsaber and quickly reaches over his cot and presses a button that closes it.
"Come quietly, Skywalker," He growls and she shakes her head. Knowing the child is out of harm's way, she quickly kicks the cot away and activates her lightsaber. The purple beam hums as she twirls it in the air. Anakin watches from the side with a warm smile, his arms folded. The first hunter shoots a blast but Kenna easily deflects it. The charge bounces back into his chest. She uses the force to push back three others as she approaches the other two and quickly slices their legs before jumping and cutting their chests. She hisses as a shot hits her shoulder. She looks back as sees it's someone from Din's side.
"He can never keep up," She mumbles as she uses the force to bring him closer. Once in range, she drives her saber through his chest. She brings out her blaster and kills the three who just regained consciousness from her previous force attack. Someone behind her shoots but misses. She growls in annoyance and he hastily runs outside. She quickly follows after him and catches up.
She swiftly tackles him to the ground, her saber rolling away from her. She aims her blaster but the alien hits it out of her hand. He pushes her off him and she stumbles back but as he runs, Kenna unsheaths a small blade in her boot. With perfect aim, she throws it and it hits him in the back of the head. He falls with a loud thump and she smiles to herself. She picks up her blaster and uses the force to bring her lightsaber back to herself.
She hears panting and turns to see Gor running out of the building and Din behind him. She waits and watches the one-eyed alien make more distance between himself and her riduur. Gor steals a look behind him and doesn't see Kenna and she casually punches him around the face and he crumples to the floor in pain. Din then shoots out his grappling hook and it wraps itself around Gor's leg. He reels him in before tying him upside down from a lamp post.
"You took your time," Kenna says as she walks back to Din.
"Did I? You allowed one of yours to escape," He motions to someone who managed to sneak past Kenna and make a run. She sighs and blasts him without blinking.
"I had to stop one of yours from escaping," She motions to Gor who is hanging from the posts. Din scoffs and folds his arms.
"I had it under control,"
"Just like I had my escapee under control," She retorts and Gor groans in pain.
"All right all right! Stop! I'll tell you where he is!" He says breathlessly.
"Wasn't that hard, was it?" Kenna snaps as she and Din stand either side of him, the child next to Kenna
"...But...you must promise that you won't kill me," Kenna rolls her eyes and folds her arms.
"I promise you will not die by my hand,"
"And...her," He says, pointing at Kenna.
"You won't get kill by my hand either," She says in a bored tone, readjusting the face-covering so it sits comfortably on her face. She reaches to her shoulder and tenderly touches it. She pulls her hand away to see blood soaking her fingers.
"Now where is the Mandalorian you know of?" Din asks with the stern, 'I'm in control' voice. Gor groans as he sways a bit in the air.
"T...Tatooine,"
"FU-!" Kenna begins but Din's response stops her from cursing in front of everyone.
"What?" He walks around so he is beside Kenna and she furiously taps her foot.
"The...Mando I know of is in...Tatooine," He says, his responses getting tougher to get out as the blood rushes to his head.
"We've both spent much time on Tatooine. I've never seen a Mandalorian. What about you Kenna?"
"Ha, no,"
"My information is good, I tell you," He breathes for a second. "The city of Mos Pelgo. I swear it by the Gotra," He groans loudly and Kenna leans over to whisper in Din's ear.
"I've had my fair share of time there, that place...I've never heard of it in my life,"
"I know, same here," Din sighs before clenching then unclenching his fists. "Tatooine it is then,"
"Ugh, again?" Kenna mumbles as they turn to leave. "Why can't we go somewhere like Endor or Coursant?" She whines. "Somewhere I'm not wanted," She and Din then walk away, leaving Gor hanging up.
"Wait! Mando! Girl! You can't leave me like this! CUT ME DOWN!"
"That wasn't part of the deal," He casually says before unclipping his blaster then shooting the light out.
"Wait! What are you doing!? MANDO! WAIT! I CAN PAY!" He pleads as the monsters emerge from the shadows and start to stroll over where Gor was hanging. Kenna jumps slightly and grabs on Din's arm as he carelessly walks away. He screams out as they quickly walk back to the Razor Crest.
While Din jumps into Hyperspace, Kenna sits with her back to the mirror. She looks over her shoulder and sees the wound and growls in annoyance. She picks up the medical pack and grabs some wipes before awkwardly reaching around to cleanse the injury. She hisses in pain and stops her movements, finding it too difficult to do much.
"Need help?" He voice says. She turns to see Din standing there, leaning against her doorframe and watching her with most likely an amused smile beneath his helmet.
"Don't mind if you do," She responds, passing him the medical pack. He pushes off the door frame and gently cleans her wound. She holds back cries of pain, knowing he doesn't want to cause her pain.
"So, you let someone catch you?" He asks, pulling out the bacta spray.
"Actually, it was one of yours, you were too slow so he moved on to me," Din chuckles before applying the cold spray.
"Of course it was,"
"DIN! IT WAS!" She barks and he laughs, packing the supplies away.
"Sure," Her jaw drops and she chucks a pillow at him which he catches with his free hand.
"You're an asshole," He shakes his head before stepping out of her room. She pulls her clothing back up before following him as well. "So, Tatooine?" She asks as she follows Din around the hull.
"Yes," He stops and turns to look at her. "You'll be okay, trust me," She nods but her gaze is somewhere else.
"Do...do you think he's still out there?"
"No one could survive that crash,"
"But what if he did? I mean, everyone thought Darth Maul was dead but he wasn't," Din freezes at the name. The named of the red-faced man who kills his riduur in all his nightmares.
"Riduur, believe me when I say this, he is dead,"
"But I'm scared he's not," Din walks back to her and wraps his arms around her and she buries her face in his breastplate.
"Even if in some, twisted way he is still alive, I'm here to protect you, I'll always be by your side, nothing in this world can take us away from each other. Not even death," He says reassuringly, but he couldn't tell if he was comforting Kenna or himself.
