I walk out of the house. Walking out of his life, for good.
I never wanted to come back, ever. My blood was boiling from all the anger I was feeling. I hear someone walk out behind me, and I relax upon seeing David.
"I'm giving you a ride" he says and walks to his car
"There really is no need, I'll take a cab" I say crossing my arms
"Alex, please get in the car" he says opening the door for me
I stop being too stubborn and get in. He also gets in and drives out of the driveway.
"Where do you want to go?" he asks softly, turning to me as we exit the mansions gates
I let out a puff of air
"A hotel please. Any hotel" I respond
"Alex, if you need a place to stay, you can stay with me"
"Thank you David, but I really need some time alone" I answer
"I understand. There's an empty penthouse that belongs to the company. Its like a guesthouse for when we have important clients that come from out of the country. No one is staying in it, so I can take you there" David says while driving
I nod my head, "I don't want anything to do with him, David. I am very upset and dont want to-" he cuts me off
"The penthouse is under my name don't worry. It has nothing to do with Ace" David reassures and places his hand on mine
I hold my breath and take a few moments to think this over. "Okay, I'll stay there then" I breath out
He nods his head and continues driving down to the city where I believe the penthouse was.
We arrive in front of a gorgeous and really tall building in the heart of New York City. The building was a 5 minute walk away from Anderson Tech, which was convenient...
David parks the car at the front of the building and we get out. I grab my duffle bag and he passes the car keys to the valet at the front. We enter the building doors and my jaw drops from how beautiful this place was. It was enormous and I swear, everything was made of white marble. I follow David to this gold elevator that was by itself and he scans a card that he pulls out from his wallet. The elevator opens and we get in. There were only 3 button options:
L (Lobby)
P1(Garage)
PH (Penthouse)
David presses PH and the elevator starts to move up.
"How have I never been told about this place?" I question
"Well, since I'm PR manager, i'm usually dealing with guests to stay here and organizing everything for them so I guess it never came up" he says
"Hmm I see, is this elevator for this apartment only?" I ask
"Yes, it goes straight to the penthouse. You will need this key to access the elevators" he says and passes me the card
"Thank you" I reply
The elevator doors open straight into the apartment. If I thought the lobby was amazing, the penthouse was even more stunning. Floor to ceiling windows of the whole city and a staircase to another floor. It was crazy. It was also so high up!
"Wow this place is beautiful. David are you sure no one needs this place right now?" I ask still hesitant
"It's been empty for months. Please, stay as long as you need it" he says, placing his hand on my shoulder
I gave him a soft smile. "I'll give you a tour" he says
He showed me around, the penthouse was enormous. We walk upstairs to the bedrooms and I place my bag in one of the two bedrooms. After the mini tour, we walk back down to the living room. We're about to take a seat when my phone starts to ring. I take it out of my purse and see "Liam" as the caller ID. My heart skips a beat, I immediately send it to voicemail. I throw my bag on the floor and sit on the sofa, throwing my head back. David comes and sits beside me.
My phone starts to ring again, and again and I keep sending it to voicemail. But he still calls again. I get so frustrated that I shut down my phone. I hold myself from throwing it across the room-
David sees how angry I was and turns to me
"Alex, I know everything is really confusing right now. I'm still shocked at the news. Ace was my best friend, but I can just imagine how you must feel right now, as his wife. If there's anything I can do to help you, I'm here" he says placing his hand on my arm
I feel goosebumps thinking of everything that's happened. I close my eyes and feel all the emotions come back. I sit up and look up at him, finally breaking, and letting everything out
"David, my dead husband came back from the dead! I don't know how to feel, or think right now. I don't!" I yell with tears
He pulls me in for a hug and just comforts me. I felt comfortable in his arms. He was there for me, and I really needed this right now.
I let out all my feelings to him, how I was feeling so angry, and sad, and just felt lost. After a few hours of talking, we just sat in silence. My head was on his lap as I was lying down. The sun had gone down and there were only the city lights that were lighting the penthouse from outside the enormous windows. He was pushing a few strands of my hair away from my face.
"So what do you plan on doing now?" he asks
Staring out the window and at the busy city, I think of my life before meeting Ace.
"Find an apartment, move in, try to get my old job back at the hospital? I'm not sure, I guess go back to the past" I say
"Why? Alex, why would you go back to the past!? Move into the future. Look at who you are right now. You are Alexandra Anderson. You work at Anderson Tech, infact, you OWN Anderson Tech. You've been the CEO for the past year and in this past year, you have grown into a strong and independent business woman. I've seen how much of a hard worker you are. Don't throw away everything you have built this past year, and go back to your past life. Sure Ace is back, but that doesn't mean you need to leave. You still technically own 50% of the company. Half of everything is yours. Don't walk away from this" he says
His words strike something in me. I sit up and look directly at him
"Mr. David Zay, you are so fucking right. Enough of moving backwards in life, I need to start moving forward. Tomorrow, I'm walking into that office with my head held high." I say
"That's the spirit! It's yours anyways. You're still legally Mrs. Anderson. Don't let anything in your life change, just because he's back." he says
I nod my head in agreement. I wasn't sure if what I was agreeing to was correct. I was honestly an emotional mess right now. But it put me in a better mood, so I just went with the flow.
David decided to order some takeout since we haven't eaten anything. The food comes and we eat. At some point, after all the talking and eating, we fell asleep.

The bright sun hits my face and I slowly try to pry my eyes open. I stretch my legs and hear someone groan
"Ow, Alex stop kicking me" I hear David complain
I immediately look up and see him sleeping on the other side of the couch, with my legs on top of his chest. He was still asleep
I look around and notice we fell asleep on the couch-
I move my legs too quickly and roll over to the floor
A loud thump followed with a loud groan is heard next, this time by me
"Fuck" I groan and hold my head which I managed to hit on the ground
David raises his head and looks at me laying on the floor
"Why good morning to you, are you okay?" he smiles trying to hold his laughter
"What a great way to start the day" I sarcastically say, then start laughing too
I get up and walk over to my phone which I had shut off
I turn it on, and it starts to ring with all the notifications I get which is when I'm hit with all the events from yesterday.
Mostly all missed calls and text messages from 'Liam', and emails from my PA Sarah. Scheduled meetings, and events pop up in my reminders. I notice it's 9am.
"What time is it?" David asks still half asleep
"David it's 9am" I say
He immediately gets up
"Shit, I'm late for work! And I have a consultation today with new clients" he says and starts to gather his stuff
While looking through my notifications, I notice a notification from the news app that I have which catches my attention
'Breaking News: Ace Anderson....' I stop reading as my eyes widen, and I immediately grab the TV remote turning to the news channel
"Omg David look" I yell
The headlines were all about Ace.
"Ace Anderson, former CEO of Anderson Tech, was involved in a bad plane crash including damage to his face. He passed away 1 year ago in another accident involving his ambulance when being taken to the hospital for a major surgery. Many colleagues, friends and family mourned his death. Yet alleged sources have told us this morning, that Ace Anderson is in fact alive!? Yes, shocking, a man back from the dead! We are still confirming this story, but could this be true?" the TV reporter states
She continues to speak but I start to zone out
I drop the remote I was holding and take a seat on the couch
"Bloody hell. How did they hear?" David says picking up the remote, he flips through the news channels, which were all talking about Ace.
He stopped at one news source that had a picture of me from Ace's funeral when we were leaving the graveyard. I looked miserable.
"What must be going through his wife's mind right now!? She attended his funeral and we all saw her mourn for him. Was she part of the act? Did she know he was faking it?" another reporter says. David turns off the tv, and lets out a puff of air.
I just sit there, not sure what to do.
"Alex remember, don't waste a thought on the media and what they say about you. It's not worth it" he says
"I know, you better go, I'll change and come to work too. There are things that we need to sort out now" I say standing up
He nods his head in confirmation and heads to the elevator. The doors open and he gets in, giving me one last look before the doors close.
I grab my phone and walk up the stairs to the bedroom. I get into the enormous bathroom and pull out my tooth brush as I start to freshen up. I cried way too much yesterday and needed to look alive. I stare at myself in the mirror and point to my reflection:
"No more crying Alex. be strong, for yourself. No one is worth your tears"
I pull out my black dress pants and a white blouse I had in my bag. I decided to pair this outfit with my white sneakers since they were the only pair of shoes I had with me right now. I tie my hair in a low ponytail and dab some lipstick. I walk down the stairs, grabbing my purse when I suddenly hear a doorbell sound ring. I'm guessing that means someone is here? Maybe David forgot something, he left not too long ago and is the only one who has a key...
I walk to the elevator, expecting David to appear behind those closed doors.
"David? Did you forget something?" I call out
The doors open and in front of me, I see the one and only, Ace Anderson.
