❛ yes, you make me so nervous that i just can't hold your hand ❜
( thirteen )

y/bff/n = your best friend's name
[ gender neutral ]

_

out of all the ways you had imagined for this day to come to an end, this situation had never crossed your mind. you sniffled, your body shaking from the pouring rain falling all around you and all over you.

you glanced at the street, expecting to see the bus that would take you home but every time you checked, all you saw were cars with their lights on; it was pretty dark even if it was the middle of the afternoon.

this day was supposed to be cool.

your best friend, y/bff/n, had somehow convinced you to go to timothée chalamet's hotel (who we will refer to as timmy from now on) just to see if he was there. that was all you had agreed to, you weren't about to go investigate the exact location of one of your favorite people in the world. that just wasn't who you were nor who you wanted to be.

but you did get to see him, and a whole bunch of other people were able to as well. you didn't get too close to the action though, every time you tried to, you'd feel your chest tighten and your breath hitch so, naturally, you didn't want to risk having a panic attack in front of him.

but after a while, when it was all over, you and y/bff/n got bored and thought the best idea was to film a tiktok dance (picture your favorite dance, for me it's the WAP dance lol not the dirty one but the one w one of the remixes) in the hotel lobby. you guys were that duo, apparently.

but that duo didn't count on the fact that timmy was still there having a conversation with his manager about who knows what. so when you turned around, he was looking. because who the hell wouldn't be looking at two goofy people filming a damn tiktok in a freaking hotel lobby?

the minute his eyes met yours, he looked away but when you noticed he had been looking, you tripped and fell.

and it wasn't nice. it hurt.

and you weren't sure if he had noticed but if he had, he was definitely playing dumb.

before y/bff/n could even try to help you up, you were already running to the bathroom. there was no way you were leaving the bathroom if he was still in the lobby. no way in hell.

so you texted y/bff/n: text me when he leaves. i'm fine.

okay. love you xx

you waited in the bathroom for perhaps fifteen minutes, playing games on your phone and politely smiling to anyone who came in for a wee.

finally you got the text you were wating for. well, sort of. okay so mr chalamayo just left and so did i lol

you frowned. you texted, but you're supposed to take me home 👁👄👁

after that, you waited for an answer that never came. their phone had probably died or something, which made you huff in frustration. they were supposed to drive you home. and had forgotten.

guess i'll take the bus then.

and all of this led you to the present situation; sitting on a bench, under the pouring rain, waiting for a bus that was taking way too long to come. your leg was bouncing rapidly and your hands were both squished in between your thighs as a way to give yourself some kind of warmth. but your thighs were wet. where the hell was the logic?

you felt your eyes welling up with tears. today was supposed to be cool. you had a million expectations for this day, and none of them came true.

don't cry in the middle of the street. it's lame. you're lame. cut it out. so you brought your knees close to your face and just kept on waiting.

you were so busy staring down at the floor that you didn't notice the huge shadow coming over you and the raindrops suddently not getting to you anymore. you didn't notice anything until-

"hey."

you whipped your head to the side. your eyes widened when you saw who was sitting next to you, with his umbrella on top of you, not even close to covering him in the slightest.

you wanted to greet him back. you really did. there was nothing that you wanted more, but for some reason, the words got lost in your throat. so you just blinked in complete and utter shock.

timmy looked concerned, which made you blush furiously. you glanced at the black umbrella over your head before looking down at the floor again.

"thanks." you muttered.

"no worries." he said softly.

you let out a shaky breath at how calming his voice was. you instinctively wrapped your arms around yourself.

"you were filming something earlier with your friend, weren't you?" he said out of the blue. it almost startled you.

"yeah. a tiktok." you said. you couldn't help but feel stupid, even bringing up tiktok in front of him. he was so far beyond all that shit, or so it felt like.

"oh, right. makes sense." he said. "you fell." he decided to comment.

you sighed. "yeah." you said, very matter-of-factly. because you scared the living shit out of me. but he seemed to have understood that because he didn't try to get it out of you in any way. he just nodded.

"so what are you doing all by yourself under the rain? it's freezing out here." he asked.

"w-waiting for the bus." you said, and at this point you didn't know if you were shaking because the weather was cold or because this absolute dream of a human was worried about you in his own way.

timmy nodded again. there were a few seconds of silence in which, if you had been paying closer attention, you could've almost heard the incessant buzz of his working mind. because he ended the silence by asking, "well... do you want me to drive you home? looks like there's not gonna be a bus for a while." you noticed him kind of looking away as he offered this.

you didn't respond immediately. you had to process what he was asking you. timmy is asking me if i would like him to drive me home...

you're an overthinker, you always had been. and if you hadn't been, you would've seen how the answer to this question was obvious, and painfully so. "really?" you asked. very dumb question but it's the best you could manage in the heat of the moment. he shrugged with a shy smile. "but don't you have, like, a personal driver or something?" as soon as you asked that, he snorted, making you cringe. "i'm sorry, am i sounding like a complete idiot right now?"

timmy shook his head repeatedly. "oh no, not at all. i do have one sometimes, but whenever they let me, i just like to use my own car."

"right." you nodded. "then, sure. if that's alright with you, timmy."

"that's why i asked." he smiled as he got up, his umbrella still covering you.

you got up as well. "i'm y/n. i felt like you should know." you blushed once again.

"yeah, that's good to know." he smiled. "okay, let's go then. stay close. because, you know.." he trailed off, shooting a glance at the umbrella that was covering both of your heads now.

you nodded and without hesitation, he held your hand. woah. you could barely see where he was leading you because all your eyes could focus on was the fact that there was your hand. and there was timmy's hand as well. both intertwined. god, i just hope he won't notice my shaking. i'll blame it on the weather if it comes up.

i'm a genius.

suddently, he stopped walking and you were in front of a big grey car. of course, he had to be a gentleman and open the door for you. you gave him your biggest smile because you didn't think you'd be able to speak properly if you were to open your mouth.

once you typed your address on his GPS, you two were on your way to your house.

at some point, timmy turned on the radio and left it at a fairly low volume. you realized almost immediately that it was a french channel and decided not to say anything about it. after all, it was his car and he was doing you a favor.

"do you do this often?" you couldn't help but ask. timmy frowned, not taking his eyes from the road. "being fans' personal uber, i mean." you chuckled.

"oh." he snickered. "what do you think?"

"i think that if you did do this often, someone would've taken advantage of it by now." you said. it wasn't very nice but it sounded logical.

"you're smart." timmy nodded. "look, i just know that if i had left you under the rain like that without doing anything, it would've eaten me alive. plus, i didn't get to talk to you earlier so." he said.

you blushed for what felt like the hundredth time in less than half an hour. you tried to conceal it by nodding. "well, thanks. it's very sweet of you."

the ride was silent for a few more minutes until you started to notice how timmy kept blowing air at this one curl that kept falling on his face. there came a point where you couldn't pretend that you weren't staring anymore.

"do you want me to get that for you?" you blurted out before you could stop yourself. he frowned. "the, uh.." you stammered. not thinking you'd be able to actually say it, you quickly brought a hand to the curl and tucked it behind timmy's right ear before dropping your hand back on your lap and in between your thighs, like you were trying to hide any kind of evidence of what you had just done.

for a second, timmy didn't quite know what to say. but then, he cracked a smile and said, "thanks, y/n."

you nodded. "sure. you ever plan on trimming those bad boys?" please, say no.

he shrugged, before glancing at the GPS to make sure he was on the right track. "nah. i think i like 'em long." oh, thank god.

and then, there was silence once again. you invested this time in looking out the window and at the raindrops falling on the glass. you almost felt like a child when you caught yourself playing that old game where all the raindrops were racing to win. you could've snorted at how ridiculous it was.

suddently, a song came on the radio. a song in french that you happened to know quite well.

you weren't really keen on singing with people around you, specially not someone like timmy. you had heard that man sing, and there was no way you were going to expose your vocal chords to someone who could actually use them for good. plus, nobody actually knew this particular song, it wasn't even that popular, specially not amongst french boys in particular.

but it surprised you to see that timmy was mouthing the words. his lips were moving ever so slightly, like he didn't want you to see that he was enjoying himself; like a secret to keep.

you bit back a smile. what if i start singing the chorus when it comes on and he totally freaks out?

you only live once, i guess.

you waited for the chorus. "donc, laisse-moi te chanter, d'aller te faire en-hm hm hm hm hm." he locked eyes with you for a second; it felt like you both knew something that nobody else knew. and he started singing with you. "ouais je passerai pas à la radio, parce que mes mots ne sont pas très beaux."

you could've lived the rest of your life only feeding off of that smile he was giving you as you both kept on singing. turns out he knew every word to it and, due to the random luck of the universe, so did you. he was tapping the steering wheel to the beat of the song. and for the first time in the whole ride, you felt yourself take a deep breath. you were fine.

a few minutes later, timmy was parking right in front of your house. your lips formed a thin line; it wasn't supposed to feel bittersweet but it did.

"well.. thanks for the lift." you said, not very sure of what came next that wasn't leaving and never seeing timmy again. could you truly be blamed for wanting this moment to last?

"oh, no problem. it was... nice." he smiled. it didn't take you more than two seconds to notice that the intrusive curl from before had found its way to timmy's face again. but this time you knew he was okay with it, so you made the move again and more confidently. you tried to not let your hand linger too much. you really did. you just prayed he hadn't noticed. "you know..." he said. "you're probably the most normal fan i've met in a long while."

you chuckled. that hardly seems fair; you just can't read my mind. "neat, that means i behaved. that's good to know." you smiled and glanced at your house, where the lights were on. "well... bye, timmy."

"oh wait wait wait!" he exclaimed, so suddently that you gasped in response. he cringed when he saw you clutch your chest and sigh in relief. "sorry, sorry. i don't know why i freaked out like that, uh..." he reached down to pull something out from underneath his seat. his hand came out with a grey hoodie that he handed to you. "here." he said. "so you won't get cold next time."

you hesitantly took it between your hands, not quite believing your eyes. "is this... is this yours?" you asked, already knowing the answer. timmy nodded. "but... i won't be able to give it back to you."

"doesn't matter. really, keep it. i haven't worn it in a while anyways, i have it there mostly for emergencies if i ever -"

he didn't get to finish his sentence because you had dropped the hoodie and wrapped your arms around his neck. he chuckled, hugging you back. you were both still a bit damp from the rain.

but it was okay. it was all too okay for it to be your life.

"thank you, timmy." you said. you stayed there for a couple more seconds before reluctantly pulling away. "well.. bye." you said, grabbing the hoodie again. there was no way in hell you were forgetting it. "thank you, again, for everything."

he waved at you as you got out of the car, and waited for you to get inside before driving away.

you brought the hoodie to your face and you smelled it. you were gonna milk that smell for all it was worth, because it wasn't gonna be there forever.

you slept with it that night, in which you dreamt about him, and the car, and the rain, and the music, and that silly curl.
