Chapter 02

Idris broke through the bushes like a tractor, completely unbothered by the thorns around them. He was clearing the way for the fragile little creature walking behind him. He wanted to laugh at how everything about her was so small. From her figure to her hands and ever her tiny legs which were hopelessly trying to follow him. Her night-sky colored curious eyes moved left and right with the speed of roaring-storm light trying to get familiar with the surroundings.

Idris was not delusional. This Quinn, as she liked to call herself was a woman. Although she was nothing like the women of his kind in heights, her curves were a clear pointer of her gender. But even with her fanciable features, to him, she looked like a little child in need of his protection. From the way she bounced behind him, to the fact that she hadn't stopped commenting during their whole journey and pointing left and right, Idris found her very appealing and interesting.

It seemed that she wasn't from this planet. He had heard stories from his elders about other species like them living far, far away on the twinkling lights visible during the night, but until today he hadn't met any. Quinn was the first one to arrive on their planet.

Although, judging by the fact that she was caught on fire when she fell from the sky, he wondered if she did it by choice or that big fire-blasting animal ate her on her way. Likely for her, he managed to kill it before it got to her.

He hadn't seen an animal like that until now. Its skin wasn't furry or warm, but cold and made out of something strange. He wondered if it had followed her from the sky. Were any more of those going to come uninvited on his planet? Yet, he didn't fear. His people were fearless warriors, capable of defeating any creature that threatens their home. And if for some unknown reason, the creatures were after Quinn, he was going to protect her as well.

Quinn earned his attention when he realized that she stopped commenting on her weird language. He turned towards the woman and found her pouting while looking at the other little creature in her hands. It must have been a friend of hers because she was so keen on protecting it when he wanted to get rid of it as well. Although judging by its immobility, he figured that it was already dead.

Seeing her distressed gaze, he tried to find a way to comfort her, even though he knew that she couldn't understand him.

"I will find you another pet if you like, please just don't start to cry."

Her eyes widened and lit up a little when he spoke to her. He didn't want to pat her head in sympathy, after the last time she flinched thinking that he was going to hurt her. Never, in his life, he had harmed a woman, nor he was planning on doing it in the future.

"I can find you a loka. You can pet those all you want."

Loka was a small creature who lived among his kind. Even though it didn't have any particular use, the females said that lokas were very appealing, so they usually kept one in their housing. Although Idris couldn't understand what was so likable about them, except for the fact that their furs were soft and could be used for clothing, they were as big as his hand was. The only thing they did all day was sleeping, eating, and rubbing their flowery-colored furs around their master's feet.

"Yes, a loka will do the job. I can even get you one with furs like your skin. Although they are rare, I can find one, I assure you. Just don't cry."

During the whole walk, while Quinn was following him, she was surprised how he began to gush words she wished she could understand.

"And suddenly he became a talker..."

She muttered while Idris started to point towards her translator. He shook his head and then mimicked something ball-like with his hands and explained about it. Quinn tried to follow whether he spoke some words several times to figure out what he wanted to say, but everything was hopeless.

However, Idris didn't seem to mind that. He continued to talk effortlessly. Then he pointed towards her device once again, so Quinn began to wonder if he had a way of saving it. Although judging by the fact that he was afraid of it the first time he saw it, she doubted that he could help her.

"Do you know how to fix it? All I need is a source of power, I can do the rest myself."

She asked, but the only answer she got back from him was a light pat on her shoulder. His lips formed a half-smile as if he was trying to reassure her.

"Yeah, I doubt you do..."

She muttered under her breath, as Idris turned around and continued to the path in front of her. As she followed him, she couldn't help but trail her body with her eyes. It was neither the time nor place for the kinds of thoughts she had, but damn that man had a nice butt.

His firm cheeks were hidden under the piece of fabric wrapped around his waist, but with every step he took, those fine muscles were flexing and formed peachy imprints on the clothing right in front of her eyes.

"Quinn, this is no time for thirsting."

She scolded herself out loud, but it didn't matter because he didn't have a clue what she was saying, nor the nasty thoughts she tried to push in the back of her mind.

"So hey, where are we going?"

Instead of eyeing his delicious backside, Quinn tried to entertain herself by getting his attention. Maybe with a little effort, he was going to understand her. Or so she hoped. Carefully, with her forefinger, she nudged his bicep.

Idris seemed to have felt her intentions and stopped to look at her. From the short distance they shared, he towered her, so Quinn had to gaze up to meet his eyes. Now, where are those high heels when you really need them?

"Where are you taking me? Is your home that way?"

After the lack of answers from his side, Quinn pointed towards their direction. She then tried to mimic the best-confused expression she owned. Quinn went as far as to even write a few invisible question marks in the air.

Start move girl, really smart.

Idris seemed confused at first, looking at her with a cracked eyebrow. Then he chuckled at the way she was making a clown of herself.

"Thanks, alien smartass. Let's see you try it then."

She answered dryly and with her hands placed on her hips, she knew that she looked like an old angry housewife. But Quinn couldn't care less, because sometimes anger was the best shield against embarrassment.

Idris's chuckles were throaty, produced by the rich baritone he owned. Quinn hated herself for giving so much attention to everything he did when he was mocking her like this. After all, who knew, he could be a rapist luring her into his den to do his deeds.

"Don't go there Quinn, don't even think about that. Have a little faith."

She shook her head vigorously to chase away her thoughts. Taking a deep breath, she decided to give it another try and pointed towards the road ahead of them. At first, Idris didn't say a single thing, taking his time in figuring out what she wanted to say. She was about to give up when he voiced out only one word.

"Talan."

N O T E:

Hey, did you like it? Although nothing much has happened in this chapter, at least you got to see the story from Idris's point of view. And I introduced to the first Talanian creature - loka. They are cat-like animals and usually, their furs are rainbow-colored. But as Idris has mentioned, there are also ones with skin-colored fur, but they are very rare.

Let me know what do you think of this chapter and also, a big thank you for reading.
