kyle gazed at the girl as she spoke, mumbling a small confession, "i love you" so delicately. of course, she didn't realize the truth behind it, and simply recited it back to him. it was then he decided he wouldn't ever try such things again, and keep everything locked up once more.
mary leaned back, then glanced at him, so full of curiosity like she always was, and she noticed his quiet demeanor, slightly unusual. "hey, what's wrong?" she'd ask, and he felt himself jolt, almost coming back to life, staring at her so fearfully. could she tell? did she know?
"i..." kyle began, gazing back at his hands which were entangled with one another, thinking up an excuse. "i kinda broke my mom's favorite...mug..." he spat out, "i feel really dumb, you know...? it was a gift from my dad."
of course, she took it, and offered him advice and soothing words, just as she'd always done. kyle felt sick. sick to his stomach. the lies he had just spat were only the beginning of his new life, a new era of vengeance that he had to keep secret from her.
