Chapter 52
After Allison and I eat we get a text from Lydia to met her, Stiles, and Isaac.
Where the hell is Scott?
"Barrow went after kids with glowing eyes? He said those exact words?" Isaac asks.
Apparently some crazy guy that was supposed to get surgery today somehow broke out of the hospital and is now after well us.
"Yeah, and no one knows how he woke up from anesthesia-- just that when they opened him up, they found a tumor full of live flies, which in any other circumstance would be all kinds of awesome." Stiles explains to us.
Of course he thinks it would be awesome.
"Did you say flies?" Lydia asks with a worried look on her face.
"Lydia?" Allison asks concerned.
"All day, I have been hearing this sound. It's like this buzzing..."
"Like the sound of flies?" I say in a questioning tone.
She nods at me. "Exactly like the sound of flies."
Allison looks to me. "How'd you know that?"
"It was just a feeling." I tell her and everyone else.
They all give me a confused looks, but I can't explain it.
Allison and Isaac then spilt off from us.
Stiles, Lydia, and I turn the corner and run right into Scott.
"Sorry..." He tells us.
"Hey, dude, where the hell have you been?" Stiles asks him.
"The police are leaving. Why are they leaving?" Lydia asks panicked as we watch the police all leave.
"The police?" Scott asks us.
"They must have cleared the building and grounds, which means he's not here." Stiles tells us.
"Who? What are you guys—" Scott starts still confused.
"He has to be here. That sound... that buzzing I've been hearing? It's getting louder." Lydia tells us.
"How loud?" Stiles asks her.
"Loud." She tells him worried.
We run outside and Stiles runs up to his dad to try to convince about Barrow being here.
"Are you okay?" Lydia asks me.
"Something still doesn't feel right." I tell her.
"What do you feel?" She questions.
I shake my head. "I don't know."
We look up to see Stilinski and Stiles looking at us so we wave.
Stiles comes back to us with a defeated look on his face.
We head back inside and meet up with Allison.
"The bestiary is literally a thousand pages long. If I'm going to find anything about flies coming out of people's bodies, it could take me all night." She tells us.
"And remember-- the word in archaic Latin for 'fly' is musca." Lydia tells her.
"Got it." Allison says before walking off.
"Where do we start?" Lydia asks.
"Upstairs." Stiles tells us.
"We gotta go." He says.
"Scott and Isaac are in the basement, right?" I ask.
Stiles nods. "Yeah, with Ethan and Aiden. The plan is they meet in the middle in the boiler room."
Lydia and I turn to each other worry in our eyes.
"All of the wolves-- all of the ones with glowing eyes are in the basement at the boiler room?" Lydia says to him.
Stiles' eyes widen in realization. "...Oh, my God! An engineer could use a boiler room to blow up the whole school. We have to get them out of there."
"We have to get everyone out." I say panicked.
Stiles decides that pulling the fire alarm was the best option.
At least he did until Coach showed up.
He drags Stiles by the ear outside with Lydia and I following.
"Wow. Pulling a fire alarm on Mischief Night is one thing-- doing it when there's a mass murderer spotted nearby is insane! If I was four years younger, I'd punch you!" Coach exclaims loudly.
"What? Coach, that doesn't make any sense..." Stiles tells him.
"Oh, well it does to me!" He says before walking off.
We look around for the boys and finally spot them.
"There—" Stiles points them out.
"We didn't find anything." Aiden tells us.
"Not even a scent." Scott sighs.
"It's three o'clock, so school's over. If there was a bomb, wouldn't he have set it off by now?" Stiles asks.
"Does that mean everybody's safe?" Aiden looks at Lydia.
"I don't know... I just don't know..." She says sadly.
This makes no sense.
I had this feeling all day that something bad was going to happen.
After the long day at school I head back to Stiles' house.
He hangs pictures up on his board and connects everything with strings.
"What do the different colored strings mean?" I ask him.
"Oh, just different stages of the investigation. So, green is 'solved,' yellow is 'to be determined,' blue's just pretty..." He explains.
"What does red mean?" I ask.
"'Unsolved.'" He says shyly.
"...You only have red on the board." I point out.
"Yes, I'm aware, thank you." He says in an irritated tone.
I giggle at him. "In sorry."
"Did you get detention for pulling the whole alarm?" I ask after a moment of silence.
"Yep-- every day this week." He nods.
I frown.
"It's okay, though. We were onto something." He reassures me.
"Even though we couldn't find any proof of Barrow being there?" I say disappointedly.
"Hey, Cassie, Lydia's been right every time something like this has happened, okay? You of all people should know that. So, don't start doubting her now." He tells me.
"No scent? No bomb? And we got you in trouble..." I say glumly.
He crouches in front of me. "Baby look at me."
I look up into his beautiful eyes.
"What's up with you today?" He asks.
I shake my head. "I don't know. It's like I can feel things. Things I've never felt before. I had this horrible feeling all day that something bad was going to happen."
"Like bad feeling like what Lydia feels?" He questions.
"Not exactly like that. Just bad. Like someone is going to get hurt." I explain.
"So Lydia can sense death and you can sense when someone is going to get hurt?" He questions what he's saying.
I shrug. "Maybe I don't know. Is that even possible? Is that someone that sirens can do?"
"Maybe it's caused by the bond you and Lydia have." Stiles suggests.
I look at him confused.
He sighs. "You two are like super close. Your sisters. So maybe because of that the supernatural sides of you guys formed a bond of its own."
"That kinda makes sense." I agree.
I wrap a piece of Stiles' red string around my finger in thought.
"Okay, look-- Barrow was there, all right? You knew it. You felt it. Okay? And look, if you wanted to, I'd go back to that school right now and search all night just to prove it." He tells me as he starts to take then string from me.
I smile sadly at him.
"Get up. Get up now. We're going to the school." He says grabbing my hand.
I'm so lucky to have this man in my life.
