From the moment you walked away, the chemistry between you and Bucky, the harmony, was gone.
Missions didn't go as smoothly as they used to, at first the team thought it was just because of the date with the, still, mystery guy.
But some of them put 2 and 2 together, they could see that the mystery guy wasn't so mysterious after all. They didn't tell the rest, out of respect for you.
Bucky would try to talk to you again, you're teammates after all. He would joke, the team would laugh, everyone except for you. You would just stare in front of you. A stoic look on your face, arms crossed and your body tense.
'Party tonight... Barnes you bringing your girl?' Tony asks, obviously still completely oblivious.
'Uh yeah..' he nods.
You sink further in your seat as you feel this pain in your chest. Natasha watches your body language and she can see the pain.
'Y/n?, you bringing anybody tonight?' Tony turn to you just as the jet lands.
You don't reply, you simply grab your backpack and boot for the hatch. Nurses rush for you but you wave them away. 'I'm fine!' You snarl before rushing to your room.
'Tony are you really that oblivious?' Nat asks him once the rest left.
'What are you talking about?'
'Y/n and Barnes... you really don't see what's going on between them?'
'Nat I need you to be more specific-'
'Bucky was the mystery guy... he was the one that stood her up and kissed another girl, probably the one he's bringing tonight... and then you ask her if she's bringing anyone...'
'Wait what?, why wouldn't she tell us if it was Bucky?, why would she hide that from us?'
'I don't know... I'll try to find out more...'

'Hey there...' Steve speaks up from behind you, you turn around and give him a soft smile.
'General Kenobi...' you sigh and he chuckles getting the reference. He hands you one of the drinks he is holding.
'Thanks...'
'Why didn't you say anything?, about Bucky being the mystery guy...'
'If we're going to talk about that all night, there is the door..' you point at the actual door and he shakes his head as he sits down next to you.
'Fine... I didn't tell you because.. and I told him this... because I didn't want you guys to see him the way I saw him that night... he's still a valuable member to this team..'
'I would've killed him...'
'And that is another reason why I didn't tell everyone... I'm over it anyway...'
'I can see you're not... I'm not the only one...'

Steve gets interrupted by a very drunk Sam dragging Bucky and his new girlfriend along. You quickly throw your drink back before placing the glass on the bar again.
'Y/n!' Sam basically slumps over you and you chuckle.
'Enjoying yourself Sammy?' You stand up and sit him down on the barstool.
'So uh...' Steve stands up looking at Bucky while he moves up next to you.
'Oh hi!, I'm R/n... I'm a big fan!' the girl waves at you and Steve.
'I bet you are...' you mutter taking Steve's glass from his hand and downing that too.
'Oh boy...' he mutters as his arm wraps around your waist.
'It's really nice to meet you Y/n, I've heard a lot about you...' She fake smiles, you see right through that act but like the bitch you actually are, you play along with her.
'And I've seen...oh I mean heard.. a lot about you too...' you chuckle and her eyes go big.
'She knows?' She hisses at Bucky, who is just giving you an annoyed look.
'I'm an avenger honey... so yeah I fucking know...'
'Good, then I won't have to put up such a stupid performance anymore...'
Steve frowns as he hears this girl, who seemed very nice at first, turn into possibly one of the meanest people, even meaner than his own ex girlfriend, and that is basically an achievement on its own.
'So what's deal with you two these days?' Bucky asks gesturing to you and Steve.
It's true that you and Steve spend a significant amount of time together, you might say you have a slight crush on the man too but right now you're just friends. Clearly Bucky doesn't think the same because you can hear the jealousy in his voice.
'None of your business Buck...' Steve answers to your surprise.
His grip on your waist tightens and since you don't expect it, your hands come up to balance yourself against him.
Bucky doesn't understand that his actions made you cautious towards others. Steve had to force you to open up more... to show the hurt... and Bucky has no clue how he fucked you up so bad that you closed yourself off from everybody else.
'Well I wish you all the best with Bucky... I hope for you that he will treat you better than he did me...' you speak up surprising all three of them.
You stare right into Bucky's soul. 'I hope she's worth it...'
'Lets go Buck...' the girl drags him away, clearly uncomfortable by your statement.
You and Steve watch them leave to the dancefloor. Steve's grip is still very tight around you. So you turn and place your hands against his chest to push yourself out of his grip, but he won't let you.
'Steve...'
'You're torturing yourself...and I won't let you... he's a dick y/n, what kind of guy tells a girl he loves her and then runs off with another?'
'Why didn't you deny us being together?' You ask and his features soften.
'I... I really like you.. and I have for a while... always.. actually... I never dared to ask you out because of Bucky and his feelings...'
'But now...'
'But now I just think... fuck his feelings... he doesn't care about someone else's... Y/n... will go out with me?'
'Steve..'
'You don't want to... I get it...I'll just-'
'No no I do!, it's just...'
'You do?!' He says surprised.
'Yes Steve..' you chuckle. 'Its just that I'm going to need some time to adjust.. I'd hate to scare you off..'
'You could never...and I've seen a lot from you that should probably scare me off...'
You huff as you playfully slap him making him laugh out loud. 'But you can and will never scare me off... I promise...'
