Y/N POV
I woke up from my slumbers as I heard the alarm beside me rang.
I slowly opened my eyes gazing at the loud beeping box.
I lay in my bed and wondered how much longer I had to bear the sound.
Not long after, a door opened revealing a woman bringing clothes as she walked towards me.
She smiled warmly after that, she asked.
"Y/N, sweetheart, It's time for your bath."
I looked at her before plastered a smile.
I nodded at her exclamation.
She noticed my nodding in which she began to gently lift my body to a more proper posture.
She carefully took out my clothes and started cleaning my body.
"Mother... Can we take a stroll outside?"
I asked while looking at her pleadingly.
"Outside? Of course, dear. I'll ask the nurse if we can borrow a wheelchair."
My mother gladly let me in which she continued to help with my bath.
Hah...
'How long has it been when I first saw daylight beyond this room...?'
I wondered as I looked at the closed window.
All I could do was imagine.
The silent bird chirp came to my ears.
The avoidable blowing wind through the trees.
The people buzzing around the country to work or go to school.
I sighed.
But... It's not like I have much interest in the outside world.
I only asked to go out because I feel stuffy seeing the same color wall around me every day.
For me, there is no purpose for me to have a loving life.
"Thank you, mother."

Later on, after finishing my bath, my mother asked for the wheelchair which the nurse kindly let her.
As she got the wheelchair, she carried me from my bed to the chair carefully.
After sitting comfortably, we went on our way outside of the hospital.
"The scenery there is beautiful Y/N."
My mother tries to cheer me up.
I can only look ahead while still feeling the breeze of wind blowing through my hair.
"I guess you're right. It is beautiful."
I smiled in which I could feel my back leaning closer to her.
Without her as my mother, I might die hopelessly and get abandoned since people would see me as a weight load of burden.
I just stare at my surroundings randomly before I notice a ball flying towards me.
My eyes widen at the sight.
Before I warned my mother about the upcoming object, a boy around my age skillfully bounced the ball back with his arms lured in front of him.
It was my first time seeing such a way to catch a ball.
"Are you alright? Damn, It was my fault! I'm sorry for my rude actions!"
He shouted as he quickly bowed down towards my direction.
I panicked as I tried to apologize for myself.
"No, no. It wasn't your fault! You were just having fun! Here it is close to a field to play, so you shouldn't apologize."
I flustered frantically but I tried to calm myself down afterward.
"Y/N, what are- Oh, Nishinoya-kun? I have never seen you passing through this part of the street. What a coincidence indeed."
My eyes widen.
'Mom knows him..?"
"Mrs. (L/N)? It's been a long time since you've visited our house."
"I've been quite busy with work so I didn't have time to visit hehe."
"Excuse me... You guys know each other?"
I asked curiously, causing them to stare at me. My mother giggled as she explained.
"This is the grandson of the grandpa I've always talked about, Y/N. You know, the grandfather that helped us settled down to a new hospital for your treatment."
My eyes widen.
After mom explained, Nishinoya laughed in which he walked closer to me.
"That old man of mine sure is popular, huh? The name's Yuu Nishinoya. This is the first time we have met, L/N-san."
He quickly introduces himself. I observed him for a moment before smiling.
"My name is Y/N L/N. It's nice to meet you too."
I introduced myself with my eyes gazing at his eyes.
He smiled afterward he stood proudly from the knees.
With that, he suddenly proclaimed.
"Hope your treatment works well! I bet you can do anything if you try! I mean, It's not like your life just got wasted because of some weakness you're born with."
My eyes widen at his proclamation.
He was the first to say those words other than the usual ones I've always heard.
"What a pitiful life she went through."
"Poor girl. She couldn't even walk."
"Must be sad to have such a life."
He was the first to say such a thing I would never think would happen.
I smiled in which I blurted out a quick sentence.
"Thank you."
Those are the only words I could say today.

Like fate was trying to calm my life down, he would frequently visit me in my hospital room.
As time passes by, we quickly become close friends.
"Hey, Yuu! Congratulations on beating Aoba Johsai in the practice match."
Hearing my congratulation, he slightly blush before running towards me and shouted in surprise.
"You heard? Yeah for once. Thanks to the new first years on our team, we will definitely go to nationals this time!"
Nishinoya pumped his fist proudly into the sky.
After a blast of energy, he takes a seat beside my bed before laying down his head near me.
"But seriously. Those guys just took the spotlight from me. What kind of senior am I if I couldn't compete with them."
I softly giggled at his behavior.
"You're the best libero I know. The reward you received years ago proves that fact. Your receive must be a thousand times greater than them!"
I encourage him to be more confident.
And yes... I learned a lot of volleyball stuff from him.
Nishinoya lookup as he smiled before proceeding to laugh.
"You got some talent for getting people's spirits up, huh?"
I couldn't help but laugh at his behavior before telling him.
"I am your number one fan after all."

Nishinoya POV
If only I could be honest with you, Y/N.
The first time we met, I was confused about why such a pretty girl like you would sit in a wheelchair.
When I realize that you never had the chance to explore freely, I admit I took the initiative to speak out of pity.
Now it's different.
The more I spend time with you, the more I get to learn the real Y/N.
My feelings for you grow as I feel more restless about the thoughts of you leaving me behind.
But...
Who am I kidding?
I don't have the right to like you.
"... Yuu"
I snapped out from my thought as I look at Y/N in bed.
"Are you alright? You're not forcing yourself again at practice, are you?
After realizing I make her worried, I frantically wave my hands.
"What?! No way. I already swear by my life I wouldn't push myself!"
I declare in which I pledge my right hand to my chest.
I took a peek at Y/N's expression as I saw her smiled worriedly.
"Take good care of your health. I don't want you to faint all of a sudden."
Hearing that, my eyes were on the verge of tears.
'I should be the one to say those words... Y/N."

"Thank you Nishinoya-kun for taking care of Y/N. You must be tired."
Mrs. ( L/N ) called me by phone.
"Tired? It was actually my pleasure, Mrs. ( L/N ). It was nice to have another company beside someone from school."
I answered her back cheerfully and reasurely.
I could hear her sigh in relief from the side phone.
"Thank God. Well, I'll check on Y/N's condition later again. Thank you again Nishinoya-kun. I'm glad to have you stand beside Y/N's side..."
It was quite a plot twist.
That those sentences will be her last words.

"Mrs.( L/N )... died in a car accident last night?"
My eyes widen when I receive the news from grandpa.
"Sorrowfully, Yes. It was reported last night there was a drunk driver suddenly pass out in the middle of driving. The truck he drove went out of control. Coincidentally she was there as the truck crashes her in the spot."
It was so sudden as I remember the person she most cared for.
Y/N
How will she react..?

"My mother got a new job in the city?"
Y/N asked with a surprised tone.
"... Yes. She said her phone got broken in the mid-way travel and she couldn't contact you directly. She already informed grandpa though before she leaves."
I lied.
There is no such truth behind those words.
I felt a sudden pain in my chest.
It was so suffocating that I could faint on the spot at any moment
"... Is that so? I'm glad."
Y/N replied as she smiled.
My eyes widen in surprise.
She just believed me.
Without suspecting a thing?
"I mean, I know my mother. She could be clumsy at times and she would work multiple jobs just to pay my hospital fees. Hearing her getting a job in a city... It makes me so happy."
Her smiled got widen.
Like there is finally be treasure at the end of her rainbow.
I couldn't feel the same.
I was giving her false hope.
But if I told her the horrible truth... her condition might get worse to the point of-
I shook myself from the thought as I look at Y/N again.
I put on a fake smile and assure myself it would not happen in a short time coming.
'I promise Mrs. ( L/N )... I would take care of her.'

A week after the incident, she still believes in the made-up story.
I still visit her every day as I can.
"Yuu! I just saw something amazing on tv. Wanna hear?!"
Y/N happily greeted me as I entered her room.
I just smiled and put on my usual energetic mask.
"Sure! It better be about yesterday's match!"
Y/N laughed at my statement.
"Hear my story first before concluding something. You know better than that."
We would always have our usual conversation.
Nothing has changed.
The pain inside me just grew bigger each day.
The feeling of guilt still pushes me, to tell the truth.
I always ignore those feelings and decide to hide them.
But...
The pain wouldn't let me be silent anymore.
"Y/N. I have something I want to confront about..."
This catch Y/N's attention as she looked at me confused.
I ignore her confusion as she was waiting for me to continue.
"The truth is-"
Like fate was trying to prevent the outcome, I found her suddenly pass out from consciousness.
I panicked as I called the nurse or close doctors.
At that moment, Y/N's condition becomes worse.
Knowing that fact, I couldn't say the truth and stay silent once again.

"Yuu. May I confess something. . .?"
My attention quickly went to Y/N, curious about what she wanted to say.
Y/N weakly opened her mouth to speak.
"You were the first person to give me hope. Because of you, I could live my life fully without concern about what my future will be like. I feel so calm when you were in my presence... Yuu-"
I pull my chair closer when I realized there was a sudden pause.
"-You were the most important person. I'm glad you came into my life. You are my inspiration to keep on living... Thank you, Nishinoya Yuu."
She ended her sentence with a smile.
For once in my life, I couldn't stop the tears in my eyes from flowing out.
"Y/N.m. Don't talk such things like you would leave me. I don't want you to go just yet."
I muttered quietly in which I could feel myself crying.
I don't care if I don't look like a man right now.
If it was Y/N, I wouldn't mind showing my vulnerable side.
"... I love you, Y/N."
With a heavy heart of sadness and regrets, I confess my feelings for her.
But when I opened my eyes from my sobbing, she already spends her last breath.
I let my vulnerable side shown to the doctors and nurses that just arrive at the scene.
Why did I take so long...?
'I should have known life was too short for such a trivial mistake.'
