With the warm ray of sunshine peaking through the ash gray curtains of a minimalist room, Sungjae started to drift away from Dreamland and realize that his right arm felt numb early in the morning.
He slightly cursed internally, knowing exactly why he ended up that way. Still without opening his eyelids, he decided to just make the most out of his position and pull closer the lady beside him so he can rest his chin on top of her head.
Sungjae felt that the lady didn't even hug him back, though. Instead, he heard her softly giggling non-stop. With the growing curiosity in him, he finally gave in and opened his eyes. He expected to be greeted by the ethereal beauty in front of him but the lady was instead glued to her phone, much to his disappointment.
Feeling very much deprived, he cleared his throat to get her attention. "Sooyoung-ah", his husky voice echoed into the room.
"Hmm?" Joy barely responded, still smiling like crazy on her phone.
"What's making you smile early in the morning aside from my handsome face?" Sungjae couldn't help but whine.
Joy raised her eyebrow and finally looked at Sungjae with her killer smile.
"Stop that. You're being unfair. You know how I melt with that smile" Sungjae pouted, admitting how much he was a sucker for Joy's smile. That was something he wanted to see for the rest of his life.
Joy was so amused with her boyfriend's cuteness that she stole a quick peck on her lips, making Sungjae freeze for a few seconds.
"Good morning, oppa. I was just going through SNS. You'll never believe this! There are tons of articles and conspiracy videos about your MV already. Most are saying it has something to do with me!" Joy chuckled.
Sungjae can only stare at his girlfriend with a proud smile. "Happy?"
Joy nodded instantly with a grin. "Omo! This one's really good!" Joy adjusted her position so Sungjae can also get a view of her phone. "Daebak! They were able to pinpoint the details! Our shippers are sooo smart. I can't believe this!" Joy said while smiling widely. She looked like a little kid who was given a reward.
"Sooyoung-ah... you're just oblivious" Sungjae teased. It was pretty obvious, right? He made it that way to fulfill her wish.
"Ya! Whatever" Joy rolled her eyes and continued scrolling at the comments.
Sungjae started to get a little uneasy watching Joy looking at their SNS. He knows for sure that not all comments will be positive, and some will even throw hate at Joy. She's too precious to be hurt like that... not on his watch. "Baby, don't mind the comments, okay? What matters is you know exactly what the MV means for me and you" Sungjae softly uttered before planting a kiss on Joy's head.
"And you oppa..." Joy shifted her gaze to meet Sungjae's. "You shouldn't worry too much, too. I've learned to not let the hate eat me up" Joy sincerely said. She definitely is not a newbie when it comes to all the hate, but things are different now. She knows her worth more than anything else. Joy kissed Sungjae's nose to give him assurance.
"I'm going to brush my teeth now" Joy was about to get up when Sungjae tightened his grip on her waist. He then rested his head at the crook of her neck, giving good shivers to Joy.
"Five more minutes, please baby. I just want us like this" Sungjae said with his hot breath fanning Joy's neck making her just give in to his request.
A comfortable silence then embraced the two idols. They rarely spend time like this anyways. Such mini vacation was even unexpected. But with the pandemic going around, they were finally able to cancel their schedules and spend more time with each other.
After a couple more minutes, Joy decided to move to finally get on with their day. She was now brushing her teeth when Sungjae groggily entered the bathroom and immediately hugged her from the back. "Aigo, oppa. You're so clingy today?"
"I am" Sungjae briefly said while looking at Joy's reflection on the mirror. She was barefaced and her hair was a complete mess, thanks to her messy sleeping habits. Sungjae lost count how many times Joy kicked away their blanket only for him to put it back on after. Nevertheless, she was as beautiful as ever. Sometimes he couldn't comprehend how she can go from being such a baby face to a hot alluring Joy on stage.
"Oppa, I know I'm pretty. Stop staring! I can see your drool already" Joy mischievously said, halting Sungjae's thoughts. She was about to spit out to the sink when Sungjae automatically reached out to hold her hair so it won't get in the way.
Joy tried to slowly wash her face as an attempt to hide her heavily blushing cheeks. Sungjae always gave her butterflies no matter how many times he had done those acts to her. Perhaps after the MV, she just appreciated more the little things he has been doing for her. After taking her time, she reached out for a towel and dried her face.
"Sooyoung-ah, where are your eyebrows?! I was just looking at you because I thought you were a burglar or something" Sungjae teased, earning him a poke on his tummy.
"Whatever, oppa. Deny all you want. Just like what you did in your MV reaction video. You're really bad at it. A lot of the comments were saying they didn't believe you" Joy stuck out her tongue to Sungjae and then smirked.
"Ya! You've really been monitoring me huh? You like me that much?" Sungjae will definitely not back out. In a swift move, he trapped Joy with his arm so that her back was leaning flat against the cold bathroom wall. Time for some kabedon style! Sungjae was now smiling widely at the blush he had caused on Joy's face.
Joy was taken aback momentarily but people don't call her Hot Joy for nothing, right? Her two hands then quickly held onto Sungjae's shirt and with all her might, they exchanged positions. It was now Joy unleashing her own kabedon.
Noticing Sungjae's shocked state, she grabbed the opportunity to kiss him on the lips. Feeling a little naughty though, she kissed him... very, very quickly. Is there a term for something even quicker than a peck?! Chuckling, she then moved away from Sungjae.
Sungjae, who was obviously not satisfied by the short contact, immediately complained. "Ya!! That was too quick!!" He pouted.
"I ain't kissing you until you brush your teeth too, oppa. I'll go ahead and cook our breakfast now!" Joy playfully smiled and ran away.
"Ya! Wait for me! You'll burn the eggs again!" Sungjae shouted.
"Whatever! I won't burn them!!! Joy shouted back.
Sungjae could only laugh at Joy's perseverance. He then stared at the mirror for a while, looking at his young features. Will he and Joy still be like this in the future when they grow older?
The future is definitely still uncertain. Soon, he would have to comply to his military enlistment. BTOB would be on a long hiatus and Melodies would have to wait for a while before they can see them come back as complete group. By the time they do come back, they can only hope that the reception will still be warm and that they can build their fandom stronger.
Choosing the idol life was really a roller-coaster ride. It's not for the weak hearted. The flashy image is envied by many, but not all can see the struggles and hardships behind the scenes.
God knows how thankful he is for having a supportive environment, compared to the others... and of course, for having Joy... his Joy. For now, all they can do is keep their relationship private and away from the scrutinizing eyes of the public. But hopefully someday, they can share their love to the world...

Sungjae closed his eyes and made a little wish for their future. His eyebrows soon knitted when his nostrils sensed a scent that has been way too familiar for him now... burning eggs.
"YOOK SOOYOUNG!!! I told you to wait for me!!!"
