Lilah

I couldn't stop thinking about Finn. What was he doing in dad's office? Was I too harsh on him?

Is he a super secret spy whose trying to find all the information about me that he can, before he kills me?!

Okay. Now, it's getting ridiculous. I need to occupy my brain with something other than the frustrating, yet handsome, boy.

I take out my guitar, and start strumming random chords. Trying to focus on the new song I had started writing yesterday.

It's been two days since I found Finn snooping around dad's office. I had been trying to distract myself by song writing.

I haven't spoken to my father for about a week now. I have been extremely lonely. The only communication I'm getting is through Kayla's short phone calls.

I read over the lyrics I had written, and frowned as I saw that the whole song was about Finn.  I crumpled up the paper and chucked it at the wall. Then I fell face first onto my bed with a huff. I finished off my mini tantrum by screaming into my pillow.

I've been doing that quite a lot lately. My poor pillow....

At first I thought I had imagined the tapping sound coming from my window, but as it continued, I realized it was in fact real. I Ignored it anyways. I'm still angry at him.

The tapping got louder and a voice called out. Either Finn went through backwards puberty, or it wasn't him knocking on my window. I'm gonna go for the latter.

I get up and walk to my window. It surprised me and excited me to see that is was non other than my bestfriend.

"Omg, your room is much more bland than I thought it would be." Kayla commented as I opened my window.

"What are you doing here? How did you know to go to my wind-" I growled under my breath. "If your here to speak for Finn, please leave."

"No. Actually, I'm here to talk to you about something else..." She gestured to my bed. "You may wanna sit down for this."

"What's wrong?" I wondered, not used to seeing Kayla so serious.

"I know why Finn was in your dad's office. It's a lot to take in, but you deserve to know." She started.

"Oh my gosh, he is trying to kill me, isn't he?!" I freaked, mostly joking. Key word: mostly.

"No." She laughed a little but continued with a serious persona. "He was searching for information, but it's not what you think..."

"Okay... Just tell me already!" I plead, impatiently waiting.

"What if I told you that Micheal" she pointed towards my door. "Isn't your real father?"

I stared at her for a second and then bursted into laughter. "Okay. That was good, but I'm not falling for that.'

Her facial expression didn't change. She pulled something out of her pocket. It was a photograph. She handed it to me.

"This is what Finn grabbed from the office."

I examined the photo in my hands. It was Abigail and another woman beside her. The woman looked exactly like Abigail. My features lit up and tears brimmed my eyes.

"That's my older sister. I don't know who that other woman is though."

"Lilah... Listen..." She had a solem look in her eyes as she continued. "This is Abigail and her mother."

"But... Abigail is my sister, and that's not what my mother looks like." I shook my head, extremely confused.

"Have you ever wondered why your so called dad, has never let you see what your own mother looks like? Maybe because he knew that the woman looks nothing like you." She pointed to the picture.

"So, you're saying that my dad cheated?"

"No! I'm saying that your dad, isn't actually your dad!" She groaned in frustration.

"You don't know what your talking about." I confronted her. It's just silly made up stuff.

"You may think that, but I met a woman who looks exactly like you. She lost her daughter, Carly, seven years ago. Right after an accident that caused her to lose her memory."

"Seriously? That woman? I met her a couple days ago at a park with Finn. She was crazy. Finn gave her a phone number to help find her daughter. I didn't want to break it to her, but if she hasn't seen her daughter for seven years, I'm pretty sure she's dead."

"LILAH! Is your brain damage from seven years ago still affecting your thinking skills? HOW DO YOU NOT GET IT?!" She yelled.

"Shhhh! My dad might hear you!" I put my hand over her mouth to silence her.

"He isn't your dad. You were kidnapped when you were ten. That's what I've been trying to tell you!"

My eyes widened at her proclamation. All the pieces fit together but I couldn't bring myself to believe her words. I wouldn't.

"Let me prove it to you." She said.

"Fine. How are you gonna prove it to me?"

"I wanna take you somewhere." She got of my bed and went towards my window. "Just trust me."

"Okay." I sighed, and locked my door, something I should have just done when Finn took me to the park.

I turned off my lights and put pillows under my blankets in case he somehow got through my locked door.

Once I was sure that I wouldn't be caught, I followed Kayla, who was already on the ground outside my house.

~~~~~~~~~~
The place we pulled into, was a coffee shop. It was small and had a retro look to it. It was in a less popular part of town so it seemed like It wasn't very known.
When we got inside I saw Finn sitting at the counter. I groaned and started to turn around but Kayla grabbed my arm.
"You don't even have to talk to him if you don't want to. That isn't why were here." Kayla offered, pushing me forward a bit.
The woman we met at the park, walked out from the backroom. When she saw me, she stopped in her tracks. Her eyes were red and puffy as if she'd been crying.
Finn turned around and saw me. He gave me a slight wave, which I didn't return. Kayla sat on the stool next to Finn and I sat on the other side of her.
The woman, Catherine, I believe, stood in front of us from behind the counter. She smiled at me but I could tell she was hiding her emotions. I know a fake smile when I see one.
"Lilah, right?" She asks, and I nodded my head. She set down a hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon on the counter in front of me.
"How did you know it was my favorite?" I asked, licking the whipped cream.
"Lucky guess?" She awkwardly shuffled her feet. Her eyes were trained on the ground.
"Cate. The photo." Finn said. He side eyed me, then looked towards the photo that Cathrine was taking out of her pocket.
"Listen. I know what your hearing from your friends may not sound believable, but I need you to look at this photo, and tell me what you see." She said the photo in front of me, and I picked it up.
The photo was of a family. They looked so happy together. I noticed Cathrine right away, and a man next to her. They both had the same blonde hair, but the man had green eyes.
Then my eyes traveled to the little girl standing in front of them. She looked oddly familiar. Almost like I've known her forever.
I gasped as I realized who it was. It was me. How did she have a picture of me? Is what they are saying true? My stomach lurched and I quickly got up.
"I'm gonna be sick." Everyone had a panicked look in their eyes. Cate pointed to the bathroom. Kayla followed me as I ran. She held my hair back as I let out the contents of my stomach.
"It's gonna be okay." She soothed, rubbing my back as I fell into a fit of sobs.
Once my sick feeling had gone away and I had calmed down just a bit,  Kayla and I went back out into the cafe.
I met Catherine's eye as soon as we left the bathroom and the water works started all over again.
She wasn't hesitant to run over to me and wrap her arms around me. Surprisingly, I hugged her back. I found comfort in her hug, a comfort I had never felt before. Her hug felt like I was finally coming home after a long trip.
"I'm sorry I let this happen to you." She mumbled, into my shoulder.
I pulled back and looked at her. Her ocean blue eyes looked just like mine, along with her long blonde hair.
"It wasn't your fault." A smile lit up her whole face as she realized that I had accepted the fact that she was my real mother.
"So... What do we do now? Call the cops?" Kayla wondered, watching us with a look of admiration.
"No. He may be my kidnapper, but he was still my father for seven years." I argued.
"You still need to go home. You can't be stuck in that house, with someone who isn't even your real father, forever." I heard Finn say, speaking to me for the first time since I got there.
"I know. I'll figure it out." I tell them.
"No. We'll figure it out." Cate said, gesturing to all of us, including myself. I gave my real mother a smile.
"Oh shoot. My mom wants me home right now." Kayla said looking at her phone.
"Go ahead. I'll take Lilah back to Michael's house." Finn told her.
"Finn. I still live there, so it's technically still my house." I corrected, and he shrugged.
"Will you stay a little longer? We have so much to catch up on!" Cate begged.
"Sure." I smiled at her.
I ended up staying till closing. We talked for so long, only being interrupted by a couple customers. Finn decided to do the dishes for Cate so she could have some extra time to catch up, and so he could leave us alone with eachother.
At around 8:00, Finn came out telling me that he should probably get me back. I agreed and we headed back to his car.
The ride back was silent, although we had so much to talk about. The silence wasn't awkward, it was somewhat comfortable.
When we pulled up by my house, he finally said something.
"I'm sorry for snooping around Michael's office. It was wrong."
"No. It wasn't. You were just trying to help. I'm sorry for getting so angry at you." I responded. His lips turned up into a small smile.
"So, I'll meet you by your window tomorrow?" He smirked.
"I guess so." I grinned as I opened his car door. Finn followed behind me until we arrived at the tree.
"Finn?" I turned to look at him. "Thank you. For everything."
I wrapped my arms around his waist since I was too short to reach his neck. I felt his chest rumble with laughter as he wrapped his arms around me in response.
"Anything for you, Princess."
"I'm glad you hit my car." I told him and he laughed again.
I have him one last smile before climbing up the tree and into the window.
Thank you for reading!! I'm sorry I haven't been following my schedule. I'm pretty busy, I have school coming up, and I am going on a family trip.
