Chapter Ten: The Villager!
Lavender! The scent of lavender! I could smell it! I was warm and cosy... I was in a bed? I could feel a warm aura soothing my body, was I home? I knew it was all a dream! I opened my eyes and sat on the bed. My vision was blurry but I saw a figure sitting in front of me, out of pure joy I leaned forward and hugged it. I was sure it was a human and I hadn’t seen another human for an abnormally long time, longer than I was used to. “Thank you!” I shouted, tears swelling up in my eyes, “I knew it was all a dream!”
“What are you doing boy?” The figure spoke, it had a stern high pitched voice, “what are you talking about, what dream did you have,” he continued “you are by far the craziest human I have come across, what is your name?” There was silence. I felt so silly after acting like that. “I’m sorry sir, my name is Arcadio.” I let go of him and sat on the bed. I reluctantly looked up at him as my vision improved. “Arcadio, hmmm... I will call you Arc! You must be one of the God candidates. So, are you ready to fight?” He looked at me sternly. He looked like a villager. He had a few feathers in his hair and he wore many strange talismans and charms. He wore a large cut out leaf skirt around his hips and he had red markings around his face. His eyes were a golden hazel and his hair was snow white. “Come on young human, why did you come here?” His look grew sterner. I didn’t know what to say; honestly I didn’t know why I was there. I didn’t even know how I got there. I trembled but then I blurted “I don’t know. I was with Elphis then I walked and fell off a cliff and now, I’m here. I don’t know anything else” I was scared I’d forgotten what Elphis had told me...’be brave.’
The sternness in his face faded. He looked at me puzzled and then laughed, much like the laugh Elphis gave me when we first met. “Well you are late, are you not here to find your friends? Don’t be alarmed, I have not been following you. Elf told me about you two years ago.” My whole body froze. Two years? That could be, I only met Elphis a few hours ago.
The man opened his mouth and whispered the words that took away any hope I had of finding my friends, “There are only thirty days till the battle for the next God begins”
