Chapter 8 Part II: Curiosity Kills
Kurlen Dalesent is dead. I suddenly felt a cold rush in my system, I should be scared right now but no. But Elle is here, he's just damn lookin' at me like I did something. That look.
Kaiser moved forward and now he's infront of cold blooded Kurlen. He holds her neck and gently move it to the left, and there a hint of ribbon was wrapped around Kurlen's neck.
"Kaiser! Wag mong hawakan ang bangkay!" Our coach teacher shouted.
Lahat kami ay napatingin sa kaniya, maging si Kaiser ay lumayo na kay Kurlen. Hinawi-hawi niya kamin mga estudyante.
"Everyone! Go to your dorms!" The coach shouted more.
Nilinga ko muli ang paligid, wala na si Elle.
Kaiser stood up and walked towards me, he's serious.
"This is serious." He murmured.
Napantig naman ang tainga ko sa sinabi niya, ano raw Serious?
I stop walking.
"Tell me about it." Wika ko, agad ko namang nakuha ang attensyon ni Kaiser.
Tinignan niya ako, isang tingin na ni minsan hindi ko pa nakita sa kaniya. He directly looked into my eyes, suminghap siya at tinalikuran ako.
"Fuck Kaiser! Tell me!" This time gigil na gigil na akong malaman. The way he looked at me irritates me.
I move towards him and now he's giving me a puppy eye look, and now a pityful Kaiser Floss is back again.
I'm just lookin' at him, waiting to get some answer, I don't know, but no matterr how badly I want to kill Kurlen and be happy to see her dead, yung nangyari ngayon, ay hindi ko nagustuhan. Is this what they call conscience? If this is, fuck conscience.
Hindi siya nag sasalita,alam kong may alam siya pero ano bang iniisip ko. Isang nerd si Kaiser?!
"uhm- I'm sorry."Wika ko at huminga ng maayos.
"Pasensya na din, pero wala akong maaring sabihin sayo ngayon. There's a right time." Kaiser said, at tinanggal ang kaniyang salamin sa mata.
Tumango tango nalang ako, tama siya. But this curiosity of mine won't stop, parang kailangan ko talagang malaman ang nangyari kay Kurlen.
Kaiser insisted to lead me to my dorm, infact hindi daw ligtas. I didn't saw Sundae anymore nor Duke.
"Wait!" Wika ko at huminto sa paglalakad. Ilang kwarto nalang ay doon na ang dorm ko.
"Bakit?" Takhang tanong ni Kaiser, inirapan ko nalang siya at tumakbo palayo.
I need to find Duke, siya ang taong kailangan kong makausap ngayon. I have this gut feeling that Duke knows something, include the fact that he's the student council vice-president.
"Scarlet!" I heard Kaiser's voice calling me, but good thing I'm faster than that nerd. I'm sorry Kaiser I just need to know something.
Hindi ko kakayaning matulog kapag ginagambala ako ng curiosity ko. Kaiser tried to run to me pero halatang alam naman niya ang pakay ko.
I just need to pray right now for my security.
I got out from the boy's dormitory and I'm heading to the main hall, thoug hindi ko alam kung nasaan ang office ng SSC sa school. I just need to trust my instincts for now.
I'm feeling nervous right now, hindi ko alam kung bakit, pero ikaw ba naman ang maglakad sa hallway ng building na halos kakaunti lang ang nakikita mong tao, mga apat o lima. And worse, mostly teachers pa!
Knowing that Kurlen is dead and the whole school body is panicking, does it have to deal with those black cars I saw earlier?
Natagpuan ko na rin ang room ng SSC. I'm about to open it nang may biglang humila sa akin palayo sa pintuan.
He leads me into a open place where you can see the whole scenery outside the school.
"Ano ba?! Bitawan mo ako!" I said and kicked this man's foot. I can't see his face dahil hinila niya ako patalikod.
"Shit! Why did you kick me?!" A familiar voice again. I look back at him, now I can see his face.
"Why did you pulled me?! you asshole!" I shouted in anger and irritation. Itong Elle na ito, masyadong pakielamero.
"Aray!" Elle pushed me to the wall and lean towards me, this time were inches apart.
"Anong ginagawa mo sa tapat ng SSC room?" Tanong ni Elle, I can smell his mint flavored breath. His tone seems serious unlike a few seconds ago.
"Ano ba kasing pakielam mo!" I said and tried to get off him, but his too strong. His grip is very tight namumula na rin yung braso ko.
I turn my back again dahil pinipigilan ako ni Elle sa pag-alis. Then here I am looking to a handsome beast na gigil na gigil.
"They're here, and back again." Elle utter, ibig sabihin alam niya rin? may alam siya?
"What do you mean?" wika ko, pero mukhang nagiisip lang siya at ayaw akong sagutin. I waited for a few minutes, Elle won't speak nor Kaiser too. Kailangan kong makita si Duke.
Kumalma ako at tinignan siya sa mga mata, "Look Elle, hindi mo ako matutulungan sa kailangan ko, kaya pwede ba? Pakawalan mo nalang ako."
Elle didn't react instead he kept his stares on me, I'm about to leave when a soft warm palm holds my right hand. It's different than the usual, then I felt frozen as I look at this Elle beside me.
"It is dangerous." He said and looked at me.
"I'm just going to see Duke." ani ko at akmang tatanggalin ko na ang kamay ko ng hawakan niya ulit ito nang mahigpit.
He really loves holding me so tight, huh? I glance at his hand, inis na tinanggal ko iyon sa kaniya pero mas lalo niya lamang iyon hinigpitan.
"And you think that he will talk to you and answer your childish question? This is not the time to play Scarlet."
"And you think I care?"
I gathered all my strength and finally, my hand is free!
Elle walk towards me. "I'm just Informing you. You know nothing." He said, well and clean, just good enough for me to hear.
I glared at him, fixed my shirt, and turned away.
"I don't need your stupid information." Wika ko, and I gaze again at Elle smoking.
"Mabulunan ka sana!" I said and made my way into the SSC room.
Malayo layo na rin ako sa pinagtunguhan sa akin ni Elle kanina, nakakainis talaga yun! Bakit ba kase napaka-pakielamero sa buhay yung panget na yun.
So I am here, infront of the SSC room, the door has a blend of lavander and black. I didn't notice that it has some carvings too,rose and some Spanish touch of design.
Siren High must be a real elite school, knowing that every hallways has its own chandelier. But It wouldn't change the fact that they gave me the most disgusting rooms in the girl's dormitory.
I noticed myself standing infront of this beautiful door, that I almost forgot my purpose.
Para bang may hypnotic style itong pintuan at sinasabi na huwag akong papasok duon.
I just stayed here and I can't move my own hands to open the door knob. Until...
"Scarlet?" A man appeared infront of me, It's Duke.
"Duke?" Wika ko at duon ko lang napagtanto na lumabas pala siya sa pintuan.
He even waved his hand in front of me.
"Hello Earth to Scar-" Wika ni Duke, and I cut him.
"Stop it! Kailangan kitang makausap, about Kurlen." Wika ko, at bigla namang nag bago ang timpla ng mukha niya.
"Let's not talk about it here." sabi niya. I agreed and just followed him.
We went into a place, this is the Sirens's Garden that they're talking about. It has a peaceful ambiance, a large bronze fountain at the middle, and a well grown grass. The sky is blue and the wind blows softly, just enought to make me feel calm.
But the situation doesn't fit right now, I still need to know about Kurlen.The fact that I don't want attention from others, is the vice-versa that I want to know about others.
Duke looked at me.
"Now tell me." Wika ko at huminga ng maayos.
"All we know is she sneaked out last night, by not getting any permit from the office. No one knows where she went that time." He explained, a hint of lie was evident on his eyes.
I raised my brows and nods.
"That's the least that I can say. Sorry. Sa ngayon, bumalik ka muna sa dorm mo." Wika niya, at tinapik ang balikat ko bago umalis.
No, I won't go back to my room.
Bakit nga ba ako interesado kay Kurlen. Is it the fact that I want her dead and now she's dead I am very eager to find justice.
I walk closer to the fountain, I sat on its well plated bronze. Tuloy padin ang agos ng tubig kahit anong problema na ang tinatahak nito.
Bigla kong naalala yung ginagawa namin dati ng kapatid ko nung bata pa kami. I grabbed a coin inside my pocket.
"Eto! Wish On Tale!" Excited na wika ko, we used to do this when were children.
Me and my sister used to wish on fountains when were young, I made wishes about her getting lost, and my parents appreciating me.
It's been a long time since my father let me feel that I'm nothing. Ironic right?
The last wish that I made was when I'm nine years old, I wished to have some gun toys for christmas, but what I got were barbies and cooking toys.
Wishes aren't real... I dropped the coin into the fountain, I really enjoyed the plopping sound it makes.
I closed my eyes and feel the cold air.
I want answers ....
I wished.
"You should wish first before you drop the coin." A husky voice echoed.
I opened my eyes in shocked, the heck!
"Stalker ba kita?" asim ko at tinaasaan ng kilay si Elle.
"Dream on, tapos ka nang mag investigate?" tanong niya, He sat on a bench.
Sinusundan ko lang siya ng tingin, ang epal talaga nito.
"Tapos ka ng mang-ines? You told me once to forget you." Wika ko at iniwanan siya.
Mapangasar talaga itong panget na ito.
"I make my rules here." Wika niya at tila umupo pa ng parang boss. eh?
I walk towards him,things that I don't know. Maybe, This Elle can help me. Beautiful plan.
"Tell me about Kurlen!" wika ko at ipinasok ko ang kamay ko sa bulsa. He quickly changed his mood, I can see it in his face.
"Stop it Scarlet." Calmed but you'll know that there's authority in it, and heck I'm not gonna follow this man.
"Stop what?" I asked back. He can't control me. Na-uh for a Scarlet Corronet.
"Stop investigating, hindi mo ba alam na seryoso ito! If you think that this is just some childish play, I'm telling you. NO!" Wika niya. He breathe calmly again, as if he didn't say something rude.
"What makes you think-" I'm just about to defend myself again, when cuts me.
" 'cause you're a fuckin' transferee!" Iritadong sigaw niya at sinipa ang damo. It brings the chill out of me.
I glared at him.
"Girls like you, really wants trouble." He said at iniwan ako as if walang nangyare.
Those words, echoed loudly and deeply on my mind. It hurts a little but no! This is my life.
But a part of me is saying I shouldn't care. I narrowed my eyes on the path he took, baka naman kasi may kinalaman talaga siya.
