The hunters and the boy continued to drive in silence for many more miles, when the boy spoke up. "Thank you for letting me stay...My name is John Egbert, by the way. " He said with a smile. "I'm Dave and this is my brother, Dirk. " The hunter with the rounded sunglasses said, gesturing toward the man next to him. "I hope we can get to be great friends, Dave Strider!" The boy laughed. Dave showed a slight smile. "I hope so too. ...but we didn't say our last names. How did you know them?" Dave turned toward John questioningly. "A-A friend back home told me all about you!" John says, smile faltering. Though what he says is technically true.
Dave stares at John for a few more minutes before turning around. "I don't believe you. We try to keep a low profile. We hardly tell anyone or real names. So, how do you know our names and why are you here?" John looks down and chuckles. "Looks like you caught me... Saw right through my act." When he looks back up he looks the same, but different. His teeth, fangs. His bright blue eyes, gleaming. His ears, pointed. He smiles. "You're smarter than you look, Strider."
