Jessica's POV
As I was fixing my hair in the mirror I heard the doorbell ring, ah must be Zach. I quickly tucked the front of my jumper into my jeans and grabbed my phone and wallet, I took a quick look in the mirror before then walking out. I slowly walked down the hallway to see if Zach and Cooper were talking about anything in particular - and its not technically eavesdropping... ok, ok maybe it is but only a little. I peaked around the corner and waited to see if I could hear my name, and I did.
"just dont take her to that stupid crazy party, alright man?" cooper said
"how do you know about the party?" Zach asked. theres a party? was Zach gonna take me to a fucking party? does that even count! I bit the inside of my lip as I walked further into the kitchen, I cant decide if Zach is the type of guy that would take me to a party as a date or not. I mean if he was the same as before he would definitely take me, but since he has changed now, im not sure...
"hey!" cooper said, I looked up from the ground and smiled at him
"hi" I said, my eyes shifted to Zach, he was staring at me, his hands where in the pockets of his jeans, which were paired with a nice hoodie. he looked real nice to be fair. it also made me happy that the outfit hes wearing, isn't the type he'd wear for a party. I tucked my hair behind my ears and looked back at cooper
"I'll see you later then?" I said he nodded "alright - well dont stay up to late, nana said she'd make you dinner, but I dont know if she can get herself up" I slightly smiled, he nodded again, I looked back at Zach; he hasn't said a word yet... was he having second thoughts? played with a little piece of my hair as I glanced up at him, he held his hand against the door opening it more for me to get past him and out of the house. cooper shut the door behind us. I waited for Zach and he held his hand out for me to grab, as I did he intertwined them.
"you look really pretty" he commented, I looked up at him and shot a smile as we approached the car
"this is like a basic outfit" I said
"still. you look pretty, I mean you always do"
I smiled "thanks zachy" I said, he opened the door for me and I got in, he shut it and jogged around to the other side and got in. then we both buckled up before he pressed the 'start' button on his car
"so, where are we going?" I asked as he drove off
"you'll see" he shrugged
"ugh are we going to that party you and coop were talking about?" I asked
he looked at me with a smile "I see you started to eavesdrop now, is it new?"
I giggled "no, I wanted to see if I could get any hints about where we are going"
"it's a surprise"
"tell me!" I whined
he shook his head "you just have to wait jess" he said. I huffed and looked out the window to see if I noticed anything in particular. but, I had no clue where we are. I've lived here for practically all my life and I still have no idea. After a while we pulled onto a bumpy road leading right to the woods, ive honestly never been here before; I didn't even know that this was here. Finally the car came to a stop, I looked around and we were smack in the in the middle of the forest. Zach unbuckled and turned to look at me
"so what are we doing here? we looking for big foot or something?" I asked
he chuckled "if you want we can. but im pretty sure big foot doesn't like woods like these" he said as he got out, I smiled and shook my head as I followed him out, Zach locked the car and we met in front of it.
"come on" he said and grabbed my hand pulling me down a little trail. Im wondering where the fuck we are going. we came across a huge ass tree that had fallen and Zach climbed over with ease, he turned back around and stuck his hands out for me to grab, I did and he helped me over. we walked a bit further then Zach stopped and stared out ahead of him, I followed his eyes and felt a huge tingly feeling in the bottom of my stomach. in the middle of an empty patch of grass was a blanket with a little table and some cushions on it.
I smiled brightly as Zach pulled me closer to him.
"I thought this would we so much better than a stupid restaurant" he chuckled
"it is" I kept smiling, he walked us over to it and then we both sat down on either side of the little table.
"did you do this all alone?" I asked looking around in awe
"hell no - im surprised you even thought I could do this alone, jack helped"
"well, you owe jack a lot" I said
"tell me about it" he rolled his eyes playfully. we sat in silence for a while before he pulled out a bag from behind him and handed it to me. I opened it and saw a chick-fil-a bag inside of it, I giggled and pulled it out
"chick-fil-a ey?" I asked putting it down on the table, he did the same
"dont start, you know me and jack cant cook so this is literally the next best" he said "its chicken tenders" of course he got them, they are his all time favourite food.
"well the thought was nice - and your lucky I like it" I chuckled.
as we both finished our food, it started to get really dark.
"so" Zach said and wiped the little bit of ketchup of his face, I raised my eyebrows at him, he stood up and then stood in front of me, holding his hands out for me to grab, when I did he pulled me up into a little hug. then as we let go he grabbed my hand and took me over to a little spot - It looked like two people had been laying here before, hm maybe it was Zach and jack?
as we stood there he bent down quickly and sat on the floor, dragging me down with him, we both laughed as we then laid down looking at the sky.
"so, how'd you find this whole place?" I asked
"oh Jack and I were hiking and we found this place. its only me and him that knows about it really, so your the second person I've ever brought here" he said
"I'm honoured" I smiled at him
he chuckled "your so adorable, jess" he said and looked back at the sky. this part was open, like the trees werent covering the stars so we could see them clearly. so we could see the lovely stars
"hey you wanna know whats even more beautiful than these stars?" he said, I turned to look at him
"what?" I asked smiling
"me" he said sticking his tongue out, I pushed his shoulder and huffed.
"how come your so self-centred?" I asked
he shrugged "I mean. you couldn't help yourself but fall for the old Herron charm" he smirked
"okay, well you fell for the Davis charm" I said
"the Davis charm, personality, looks. well everything really" he said. it warmed my heart, a small blush crept onto my face, and Zach chuckled. guess he noticed/
"come here" he said and pulled me onto him. I really love when he says that, it sounded so sweet and calming - but then again it was so demanding. ugh I love it. I rested my head on his shoulder and tangled my legs into his. I rested my arm over him and looked up at the stars. then I looked back down to see him staring at me.
"what" I groaned and looked into his eyes
"nothing" he said and looked back up
"Zach tell me" I said "do I have something on my face?"
"well, yeah" he said. my eyes widened.. fuck!?
"woah wait where?" I asked and hopped off of him, I started wiping my face, Zach chuckled and grabbed my hands = repositioning himself to sit up and face me.
"let me get it" he said and held the side of my face with his hand. then he took his thumb and wiped under my eye, he took his hand off my face and showed my his thumb "you had an eyelash" he smiled. my heart was literally pounding, and I bet he could hear it too. my eyes shifted down to his lips before they went back up to meet his eyes. he lightly licked his lips before he crashed them onto mine, I wrapped my arms around his neck as he pulled me onto him, so I was straddling him. I didn't really know what to do now, since this was only my second kiss. so I followed my heart, I reached for his hoodie but Zach pushed me away.
"jess" he breathed heavily looking dead into my eyes. "I cant.." he said. he cant do this? he doesn't want to kiss me? "if we carry on.. I wont be able to control myself..." ah I get it now "and I know you aren't ready either - besides this is only our second date" he said
"so I didn't do anything?" I asked, playing with my hands
"no, of course not" he said and grabbed one of my hands "I just dont want to do something I'll regret" he said. I nodded, I mean its fair, he's doing this for me, I guess he's really changed huh? if I was Alexis he would of let me carry on, but since im me, he wants to wait - he seems to care about me a lot.
"you seem to be thinking about this" he said "dont over think it? dont take it personally - I was enjoying it way more than I should of" he said and bit his bottom lip, I giggled and kissed his cheek.
"you know I thought you were going to take me to that party tonight" I said and got off of him
"did you want to go? because we can probably make it if we leave now"
"no I dont" I chuckled
"thank god, I didn't even want to go"
"woah! Zach Herron missing a party?"
he rolled his eyes playfully "its Alexis's party. I know she'd try some shit, and you would get upset - and I hate seeing you upset" he said as I laid down "anyway, a freaking party is the worst first date"
"ah you know me so well" I said then laid down next to him
"well, I am your best friend aren't I?" he said
I shrugged and smiled "nope" I joked. he fake gasped and pulled me towards his side, I rested my head on his chest - I could hear his heartbeat, it was soothing.
"can I ask something?" I said
"yeah" he replied
"would you rather be my best friend, or my boyfriend" I asked
"ah definitely boyfriend" he said, I looked up at him with a huge smile
"really?" I said excitedly
"he nodded "we are happy like this, you know" he said. I nodded and yawned "tired?" he asked
I shook my head and rested it on his shoulder "I wanna stay like this"
"me too"
"it would be amazing, to just stay like this forever" I said. he nodded and kissed the top of my head. I then closed my eyes and sighed, this is the perfect ending to the most perfect night. this is one of the best dates I've ever, ever been on. just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard Zach sigh and run his hands through my hair, making me calm down even more, I felt his arm wrap tighter around me, as he settled with me..
