“Honey”
I say walking into Clark’s office, her hair is tied up into a messy bun and she’s eating the back of her pen looking frustrated with whatever she is looking at
“Hey babe”
She says looking up at me, I walk over and sit opposite her
“Everything ok, you look stressed. What’s eating you?”
She exhales
“this”
She says sliding a file over to me, I scan it
“A woman killed her husband in cold blood after her husband had been abusing her for years. It's gruesome”
She explains
“And she admitted to having killed him?”
I ask her and she nods
“It was self defence”
I shake my head
“That’s not how the court will look at it though, I mean from what I am seeing it's going to look premeditated babe”
She nods
“I know, I need to prove that this was not planned and it she really was just trying to defend herself. I keep going through this file and there's something I’m missing, I don’t know what”
She says throwing the pen on the table, I stand up and walk around the table and stanhd behind her placing my hands on her calves
“How about you breathe in slowly and let it out ok”
I say massaging her
“you really tense”
She sighs
“It's this case, it's frustrating me”
She says
“you going to win this case, you are going to prove her innocence and get her out record free”
I say and kiss her head
“I don’t know babe, I need a loophole or something. I mean look at this, look at these bruises”
She says holding up a picture of the woman beaten almost to death
“He almost killed her”
She says, I let out a sigh
“Can you imagine what she must have went through at the hands of that monster? Death was far too nice for him. he deserved to suffer until death. Look at this”
She says holding up a hospital report
“He raped her more than once and the cops never did anything. Her file disappeared even and now the one time she actually stands up to this bastard she’s the one that’s put on trial? It's not fair”
I stop massaging her and turn her around to face me
“It is then your job to double check and triple check to see if you not missing anything. If there was ever anyone who could get her out of this then it would be you my love”
I say and lean in to kiss her, we break the kiss shortly when there's a knock on the door
“Honey I’m going to fetch my sister. We’ll meet you at the restaurant ok? I’ll text you the details”
I say and then kiss her forehead before walking towards the door passing our receptionist with a greeting. I go to my car and start the car then drive to fetch Elaina from school. I park outside and I call her
“Little sis?”
I say after she answers
“Hey Kyle, you here?”
She asks
“yes I am. Come down”
I say and then cut the call
“how are you? how was school?”
I ask starting the car
“school was boring, how was work?”
She asks focused on the phone. Trust my little sister to pay attention to her phone despite the conversation you are trying to hold with her
“it was ok, what do you want for dinner?”
I ask and she turns to me same time, this shirt person next to me eats like there’s no tomorrow and never gains weight
“you mean we eating out?”
She asks looking all kinds of excited, I nod
“We meeting Clark at a restaurant of your choice”
She nods
“That’s cool. I like her”
She says and I smile
“I’m glad you do. I spoke to mom today”
She says, I haven’t spoken to Kate in a while and when we speak it's always about Elaina
“And?”
I decide to ask and she shrugs
“She was checking up on me, she misses you Kyle”
I exhale
“I’ll call her”
She shoots me a look
“What?”
I ask
“We both know you not going to call her bro, you are her daughter and you were wrong for picking sides”
I frown
“I never picked sides, your mother chose to believe him over Mercy”
I tell her
“if someone came up to you and told you that Clark used to be a stripper, would you believe them no questions asked?”
I chuckle
“It's not the same”
She rolls her eyes
“You choosing to look at differently when it's really the same. I know my father was not the best man there was but he was a great father to us. I’m not saying he didn’t do what the media said but he was a great father to us and an amazing husband to mom. She is lonely Kyle”
We get to the restaurant and we head in, we sit and continue the conversation while waiting for Clark, we place our drink orders and just then Clark walks in. She and my sister greet each other and then Clark comes to sit beside me and kisses my cheek. The late lunch goes well over light and fun conversations then we head back to my place. Elaina walks to the spare room while we head to my room, Clark goes to the bathroom and I am left calling Yaya to wish her luck on her event.
“Thank you my baby”
She says
“And the noise?”
I ask her and she chuckles
“Ledi is here, Ash and Serena came to the house with her and so we got drinking wine and getting ready for tonight”
I chuckle
“Don’t get drunk mom”
She laughs
“I am very sober today. I had two glasses so I’m good”
I chuckle
“Ok then mom, I’ll leave you to get back to them. Good luck again with tonight”
Clark walks in from the bathroom and sits ontop of me, I say my goodbyes to Yaya and then drop the call
“Hello”
I say placing the phone on the counter
“hi”
She says resting her forehead on mine
“What's up?”
I ask her and she shrugs
“I don’t know, I’m feeling a little nauseated. I think I ate something I shouldn’t have eaten”
I frown
“But there was nothing you hadn’t eaten before”
She nods
“I know, maybe it's the stress from the case. I’ll be fine tomorrow”
She says
“Are you sure?”
