Hinata couldn't help but tense up again when Kageyama walked into the bathroom stall. He didn't dare to look at him afraid that his face would tell him all the horrible things he was thinking. You're nothing but a monster. I hate you. I don't want to see you ever again.
"Hinata boke."
Kageyama's tone brought him out of his thoughts as he finally looked up at the tall dark haired boy in front of him. There was nothing mocking is his tone like there usually was, instead it just seemed like Kageyama was hurt by him. He could see the puffiness of his face and how it was red. Both of the boys had clearly been crying over something that now seemed so stupid.
"Why are you here? Don't you hate me?" Hinata asked in a slight whisper, voice cracking a little. He couldn't look at Kageyama and instead chose to look at his shoes not wanting to know the answer to his question, only thinking of the bad answers.
"I don't hate you..." Kageyama said a bit confused as to why Hinata would think that considering just this morning he felt the complete opposite for the small tangerine that was his best friend. Kageyama debated saying how he felt for the boy but decided that now wasn't the best time for that. "As to why I'm here...Suga said we needed to work whatever this is out."
A chuckle came from Hinata and he shook his head as he thought that Daichi and Suga were truly in sync with each other. Kageyama gave him a confused look not following Hinata's train of thought. Hinata decided to enlighten him.
"Daichi benched us. Said we needed to talk just like Suga, though I'm not sure how to fix this."
Kageyama sat down next to Hinata and gave him the volleyball he was holding. "Were you ever going to tell me?" Hinata looked over at Kageyama sensing the seriousness of the question but he didn't really know the answer so instead he shot back, "Were you going to tell me yours?"
Staring down at he fingers Kageyama softly replied, " I didn't think that I needed to...I thought you already knew." Hinata nodded. He did know but yet Kageyama never acted like an omega around him which you'd expect when someone becomes close, that they would let their second gender show through more often. After thinking about it though Hinata realized that maybe they were in the same boat, both stuck with second genders that they both found revolting.
"Do you not like being an omega Kageyama?
Kageyama tensed up and shook his head. He found it odd when Hinata smiled at his answer. "I don't like being an alpha, all they do is control others and hurt people..."
"Not all alphas are like that Hinata..." Kageyama's family was made completely of alphas and they were all very prestigious and high up on the social ladder. Hinata could sense a change is Kageyama's scent turning a bit sour as Kageyama was in thought. "Are you ok Kageyama?" There was an unsettling quiet between them.
"It's not fair. How could you be an alpha and I be an omega it doesn't make any sense!"
Hinata looked shocked. "What are you saying Kageyama?"
"I'm jealous ok! Jealous of your dumb ass and your ability to hold power that I never could. I'm useless and worthless." Kageyama was shaking and Hinata could see the slight panic in his eyes.
"You need to calm down Kageyama. We can't change who we are no matter how much we try but at least we know how we both feel and can relate. I want nothing more than to be an omega and have kids of my own someday but that'll never happen and that's just a fact I need to get over and move on with my life even if it's hard. Will I ever fully embrace my alpha side? To be honest I don't know it just reminds my too much of my past—" Hinata stopped rambling abruptly like he had said too much. The look of panic in Kageyama's eyes was gone and instead replaced with confusion and concern.
"What happened?" He asked and when Hinata didn't respond he thought that maybe he had to elaborate. "In your past?"
"Just forget I said that ok." Kageyama was reluctant to let it go but he knew that Hinata would tell him if and when he was ready to and at the moment it was best not to push it.
"One more thing...why did you run away from me?"
Hinata's mind was still questioning why he would do such a thing and he looked over to intently listen to Kageyama's answer. "I was shocked and intimidated by your alpha side so I needed to get away for a bit to recollect." He said plainly.
"I think we've done enough talking..." Hinata nodded in agreement knowing that the only thing more talking would do would dig themselves into an emotional black hole. "Toss to me?"
"Boke." Kageyama said before getting up off the floor and out of the bathroom with Hinata following him close behind him. Hinata remembered he was no longer wearing his scent suppressant and quickly ran off to his locker leaving a confused Kageyama in the empty hallway. Hinata was quick to open his locker and place a new patch on his scent gland which instantly made him feel more at ease even if the probability that the whole school knew he was an alpha was very high. Kageyama was leaning against the lockers with his hands in his pockets right where Hinata had left him.
"Where'd you go off to?" He asked glaring a bit at the middle blocker. "Just had to get my water bottle from my locker, stop being so uptight Bakayama." Kageyama noticed the change of atmosphere, no longer holding a potent scent of an alpha, it seemed calmer than before and Kageyama realized that Hinata must've put on a new suppressant. "Is the patch necessary if everyone already knows you're an alpha?"
Hinata subconsciously rubbed the back of his neck firmly pressing the patch on. "It's a comfort thing I guess. I'm sure you have something like that too that keeps your omega side at bay." All Kageyama did was nod.
It wasn't long before they realized that they had classes that needed attending especially with exams coming up soon. They both ran off to their separate classes trying their best not to disrupt the class with their entry.
"There you are Hinata. The vice principal asked to see you in his office." His teacher said as soon as he entered his classroom. 'Shit I completely forgot about the whole knocking people unconscious thing what with all that happened with Kageyama.' He thought before he slowly made his way to the office trying to come up with some way to get out of this mess.
Hinata knocked on the office door and we quickly greeted by the VP who gave him a look of disgust. Hinata dreaded having to talk about what happened again and instead opted for a shorter version. "I was simply just protecting my omega from two horny alphas and I might've lost a bit of control which left them unconscious."
"Are you bonded with said omega?" Hinata knew that the only way that he could legally harm other alphas was if he was bonded with the omega but he wasn't and he knew he had to tell the truth or he would get himself into a bigger mess. "No I'm not but he is a member of my volleyball pack and therefore I have a duty to protect him from harm."
The VP nodded knowing very well that the alphas in the nurses office were known for taking omegas without consent and so he decided that he would let this slide. He didn't want to cause more of a fuss knowing now that Hinata was an alpha who has always been determined to get what he wants made him feel a bit intimidated. "Ok your free to go but you'll have detention for the rest of the week." Hinata was shocked that that was his only punishment but couldn't help but frown. Detention was when they had volleyball practice after school. Hinata bowed before leaving the office to finish his classes for the day.
~After school~
Kageyama realized as he made his way to the club room that he was banned from practice for the time being. It was odd that he wasn't greeted by Hinata either which made him wonder if he got in trouble for what happened earlier. Kageyama started to make his way home just thinking about everything that happened that day. "I don't like being an alpha, all they do is control others and hurt people..." Kageyama couldn't help but compared what Hinata said to his family. Sure they never hurt people to get what they want but controlling of their children and neglecting those that are not alphas was definitely something they did.
When Kageyama had first found out he was an omega his family was completely shocked. The attention he received from his parents steadily declined as they knew that he couldn't be the one to carry the family name as an omega. Kageyama missed the days that they would do a puppy pile when he was feeling down but recently his parents were constantly gone away on business. It's not like they no longer loved him, Kageyama knew that they did, but they had other more important things to think about that how to deal with their omega son. Maybe Hinata was right that alphas are all bad in someway and it's just part of their nature. He couldn't help but think of how happy his life would be if he had turned out to be an alpha and how much more his parents would love him and give him attention.
Without realizing it Kageyama had made it home and so he unlocked his front door and stepped inside his eerily quiet house. Sighing he went up to his room and changed out of his uniform. He quickly grabbed something to eat before lying on his bed and setting a volleyball to himself. After an hour he decided that he should text Hinata to try to resolve things further. 'What should I say? That I like him? I don't want to sound stupid. It would resolve everything a lot faster if we both liked each other though.' Kageyama couldn't help but doubt that his best friend liked him in that way though but it would be more likely for him since he's an alpha that knew that he was an omega. Plus why did Hinata even protect him today if not out of some sort of feelings toward him.
Kageyama: I didn't see you after school today just wondering if you got in trouble or something
Hinata: I got detention for the rest of the week *Hinata's thoughts ~ he actually cares*
Kageyama: Boke. Why'd you even protect me like that I was completely fine on my own
Hinata: It was just instinct since one of the alphas grabbed my neck and I wasn't thinking tbh plus you looked like you were having a hard time fighting submission.
Kageyama: Oh ok. *Kageyama's thoughts ~ so it was just out of instinct not feelings*
Hinata: Did I do something wrong?
Kageyama: No. Thanks for saving me ig
Hinata: Ok gn Bakayama cya at practice tomorrow
Kageyama: Gn ❤️ *Shit shit shit I didn't mean to send that*

Hinata looked at the last message from Kageyama and couldn't stop the heat rising up his face. Does this mean that Kageyama likes him? Should he even ask? What if it was just autocorrected or a force of habit from texting someone else? Hinata tried his best to fall asleep after that but he couldn't get Kageyama out of his head. Eventually he gave up and decided he needed to have an answer.
Hinata: Do you like me Kageyama?

Hinata: That's still not an answer...I need to know so that I can get some sleep

Kageyama was shocked. Never in his life would he think that someone liked him for who he is let alone someone he liked. He couldn't help but feel all giddy inside as a genuine smile graced his lips. It took him a few minutes to come up with the most basic reply.
Kageyama: I like you too boke. Now go to sleep we have practice tomorrow, well ig it's today now

Hinata smiled brightly at his phone before turning it off and falling into a peaceful sleep.
